Hey, even I have XM2 in my swift but find them highly prone to punctures. I have checked the air pressure however unable to find a remedy.

I'm in two minds here.

From one point of view, I had a very bad experience with Apollo Acelere on my i20. Had to change the tyres at 30K itself, because of excessing wear on some of the tyres. The tyre noise was also way more that one would consider acceptable. I switched to Bridgestone B290 and have been very happy I did so. Hence, as you can imagine I have a bias against Apollo, and am looking for an alternative to the Apollo Alnac that the VW Polo GT TSI comes with. Which makes me lean towards the Michelin XM2 switch.

From the other point of view, I'm guessing that Apollo has improved on the Acelere with the Alnac series. And also, since I haven't seen a lot of chatter around tyre changes for the GT TSI, I feel that those who have stuck to their Apollo Alnac are happy with it! Maybe I should too.

To do or not to do? That is the question? :)

Big thanks to Robi in clarifying my silly doubts, and introducing me to Shibin.
According to Shibin, Petes has two maps "Performance" and "Aggressive". As the name suggests "Aggressive" delivers more performance. After the consultation with Robi, I opted for the "Performance" map.

Procedure:
- Went to Petes on 05th-Nov. Shibin said he would need to scan the car, and send the details to "Custom Code"(UK). He took hardly 3 minutes to scan the car. He said it would take a day for the "remapped file" to arrive from "Custom Code"
- Today, again went to Petes. Shibin uploaded the "remapped file" which took around 3 minutes. Then he took a short test drive.

Misconceptions(from my side):
- I was under the impression that standard map would be given to me. But Shibin told me that as a policy(Petes), they do not give the standard map. However, they store it with them.
- I was also thinking that Pete's provides unlimited number of upgrades(e.g if I am not happy with the "Performance" map, I could upgrade to "Aggressive" map for free). This is not the case. We need pay for every upgrade, where as reverting back to "Standard map" or reapplying the earlier map(e.g in my case "Performance" map) is free.

Overall experience:
Overall I had a good experience with Shibin.

As many people in the forum have already mentioned "DSG ECU makes use of the fuzzy logic, so remap would take some time show the results".

Since, I have installed the "FuelLog"(Android app for measuring the fuel efficiency which already has 10 month's of data), I should be able to check the FE too(i.e before and after the remap).

I shall update my findings after couple of days.

I have a Vento TSI and I was late in swapping the tires so the value of the OE ones dropped drastically and I just decided to keep them. I have been pleasantly surprised by the Alnac's so far. The grip is quite good, they are quite silent and the braking is predictable. They are not performance tires by a long shot but I think they acquit themselves quite well against the MNC brands for regular usage.

Hey Insane Devil, congratulations on your excellent choice, what did the rubber cost you? Care to share a snap or two showing the side profile and another showing the tread. TIA

I swapped the stock Apollo Alnac typres to P3STs and feel the extra cost is very well worth it. The store took my stock tires @2750 and the P3STs cost me @6000. I feel the ride is much quieter and ride comfort has improved. The tire store also mentioned that I should get better mileage because the P3STs are made of more silica but this is not a claim I am able to verify.

About pricing, I got mine exchanged.
3200 for taking the oem tyre, and 5800 for new Michelin P3ST.
So I paid Rs.10,400/- and free wheel balancing.

This is from a shop i have been buying from past 12 years now.

Switching to P3STs also mean upsizing the tyre width right, since they only come with 195/60R15 and standard polo tyres are 185/60R15. Doesnt this void VW suspension warranty? I remember reading on the P3ST forum that warranty gets affected.

Why bothering for something which doesn't even exist? lol:
VW cars come with very limited warranty on suspension, don't exactly know but its like 10K kms or 6 months or something like that. Suspension is considered as consumable item.

I am not a tyre expert, I can only say that if its going to be an upsize then do it sensibly and make sure its within the recommended tolerance limit. Its very rare to find cars like Polo in India which have got right dynamics and quality in the affordable segments, don't ruin them by improper mods.

Oh, I didn't know about their warranty criteria. Thats news to me!

They probably make it out of plastic, so they can say, "No, Sir! Plastic items not covered by warranty sir!"

I upgraded my audio to RCD510 on my new 2014 Polo. I also installed a rearview camera (VW Scirocco OEM unit). The audio system looks good and work fine. But can't get OPS or the rearview camera output on the system. This is the Delphi unit. Any suggestions on how to activate OPS and camera.

Picked up my gt tsi today from Vw downtown. The car is addictive!

Switched tyres to Michelin xm2 and also installed the arm rest. Will be taking it on a long drive tomorrow morning, and looking forward to it.

I'm babying the car right now, keeping revs under 2000 rpm, planning to do so for the first 1000 KMS or so.

Would also like to mention that the sales experience at Vw downtown, prabhadevi was very good indeed.

I've been trying to get a test drive of the GT TSI from VW Palace cross since the past 1 week. They first told me that the test drive car met with a minor accident and is in the workshop for minor bodywork repair. Now after one week they tell me that the car will be out of action for another two weeks!! Now is that a sign, I don't know.

The sales lady tells me the TSI engine is one of a kind and there is nothing like it in the entire segment "so why do you need a test drive sir?" She was talking about long waiting periods and advised me to book the car without waiting for the test drive. She in fact offered me a test drive with the 1.2 MPI MT petrol to get a feel of the car. Basically I wanted to get a feel of the engine and the gearbox so have asked for a test drive of the Vento TSI. She said she can arrange that in the coming week. Let's see if that happens.

I guess that's the problem with having so many variants of the same car. They have to keep a test drive car for each variant. The Polo currently sells about 3,000 units a month with four engine options. Compare that to the swift, nearly 10,000 units with just two engine options. I am all for providing more options to the customer. But then expecting customers to book cars without even a test drive is foolish to say the least.
