Re: BMW M5 : Driven

Thanks Rehaan for a fab review. I could literally imagine myself driving this beautiful machine. My favourite sport sedan in the whole wide world and I missed this! How could I?!

This is my dream family car. Ah! I imagine taking the family out; performance to bring an loony-like grin to my face and a glint in my eyes..all with a scowling, disapproving wife in the passenger seat. Ooh yeah man!! I have dreamed about this many a times.

I became a fan of the BMW 5 series after using a 535i in the UK. The 530d would be my next choice.

Thanks plenty for the wishes Sahil. Hope it comes true some day. Even the thought of driving this car makes me come alive with glee.

Here's a quick video I threw together of the M5, by popular request!

Re: BMW M5 : Driven

Today was the second time i sat in the M5 (first time being at the launch @ Auto Expo).

Was at Chembur Infinity workshop for some work in my BMW & saw the Blue M5 (Press car it was -as was HR passing). I just went towards it & asked my service adviser if i can start the car and get a feel of how an M feels & he agreed

As soon as i was in the drivers seat you feel the passion right from the way seat hugs you to the way the gear knob with an M on it is staring at you.

I Saw the key (which was very understated, surprising no M logo on it) and then placed it on the slot next to the cup holder & pressed the ignition.

Boom !!! The idling sound was simply an orgasm for the ears, i waited for the car to come to normal revs. the service adviser was explaining to me the other details regarding the suspension settings & a very different driving experience control system and obviously the M1 & M2 modes.

Then i cross checked weather the car was in neutral and then gave a slight throttle input & woah the exhaust growl &the burble you get can be such USP.
Soon was revving all the way to 4k rpm (as it was locked in neutral), i just couldnt stop smiling & believe that i had 560 horses raring to go on the tap of my right foot.

Btw, he too was complaining about the launch control being too complicated & was explaining to me how to go about the same but was sounding to be pretty much manageable once you get an hang of it.

Also felt the exhaust growing within the cabin too thanks to the ACTIVE Sound which IMO is a welcome feature coz it just sounds so natural.

All in all spent a good 15 mins with the M5 & If driving my 328i is an adrenaline booster for me then the M5 without driving it did give the same adrenaline boost but with some Nitrous Oxide sprinkled on it

Re: BMW M5 : Driven

I like that video. Thanks Rehaan. Maybe you can speak a little bit more than the captions and show yourself when you are reviewing it (a - la Top Gear). It would make the whole thing very effective. The best music I heard in the whole video was the engine note. Amazing is the only word I can say. Thanks and hope others mods too make a brilliant video effort to make the review more effective as they have been doing so far with words and pictures.

Why do you think it's risky on a narrow lane? Going by that video frames? A car of that stature will spin wheels to glory if gas down slightly more than normal. Don't worry about the risk and safety when it comes to our review. We do not encourage with reckless driving. Our review is for the consumers and not to display any stunt here.

Re: BMW M5 : Driven

I hope they've addressed the terrible user-interface for the “Gearbox position P not engaged” issue whilst shutting down!

I've had 3 people call me asking "Hey... how do you put the M5 gearbox in P position?".

As for the wheels, i thought the earlier 20"ers were a little too M6-ish. The new wheels are even weirded if you ask me. They're not terrible, but they don't seem to suit the car, especially with their chrome finish.

The new wheels are only for the competition package. Also the exhaust for the competition package is by akrapovic.

Re: BMW M5 : Driven

So should the M5 go for a head to head with the new for 2013 Boxter S (981)?

Autoexpress UK review the new M5 with the competition package;

BMW M5 : Driven-bmw_m5_frontcornering.jpg

Quote:
Verdict;
New alloys, a sports exhaust, firmer suspension and an extra 15bhp – on the face of it, the M5 Competition Pack is a light upgrade. But the changes add up. The sports exhaust is welcome, as is improved body control, but only if you take the car on track. Otherwise, the standard car feels just as fast, looks just as good, and costs £6,700 less.

Re: BMW M5 : Driven

I am still trying to get my head around this video by gtboard.com formerly known as m5board.

Rolling start race between Ferrari FF & BMW M5 (claimed to be stock) and M5 stays ahead till limiter. Mind = Blown.

Now, the claim is that M5 is fully stock, but I find that hard to believe, It has clearly been lowered.
