Also with regards to hydrolock, my rule for BMWs is that if you see water, take a u turn. That being said, it won't have any issue on the expressway or with other cars splashing water here or there. |
Thanks for your reply akshay1234. Doesn't this rule apply to all low slung cars? Is there anything particular about BMW's being prone to hydrolocks? Yes definitely, I wouldn't take the car out to water logged areas during the monsoons.
Any good service centres you know of where i could service the bimmer as I don't intend on servicing at bmw if the car is out of warranty and no BSI package?
Seen your ride in the initial posts of this review, looked amazing and very well maintained :thumbs up . Actually felt it looked much better than the F30

Hi guys,
After a lot of confusion and discussions here on T-BHP, I finally narrowed down my used car search to Octavia or Jetta or 3 series (if I can find a good car in that budget) in around 13-17 lacs budget. My usage is a bit high (30k kms per year, mostly on highways) and I intend to keep the car for max 8 months - 1 year and change it again. So, today I came across a 2013 BMW 320d Prestige model, white color, 96k kms done which I'm getting at a decent price.
Also, existing owners - can you please let me know the service schedule of this car? Any major service required at 1 lac km or in near future?
I know this car sounds a little bit dangerous, but when I drove the car, it actually felt like a 2-year-old car or something. The drive is actually that good. And THAT is the reason for my post.
Experts and existing owners - please help me and advise on what to do. Thanks in advance :) |
As you’re planning to use it only for a year or less, you will end up losing at least 30% value.
Selling a 6 yr old car (when you sell it) with 1.2L km on the odometer to a prospective 4th owner is bound to be tough.
If there was an accident that involved replacing the headlights and windshield, it would have been a really major one and almost impossible to conceal. From your description of the car it doesn’t seem likely.
Also BMW has purportedly used a lighter glass for weight saving and windshield cracks due to minor incidents are not unheard of.
You can get always detailed vehicle history from BMW for a minor fee assuming the present owner has used the authorised service center and the fact that usually in the first 2-3 years owners stick to official service outlets.
Overall it doesn’t seem like a viable proposition unless the price is :Shockked: eye-poppingly low...
I would recommend skipping this one and looking for something below 50k km <4 years and 1 owner

You mean 225/45/18 and rear 255/40/18?
Are these "397 style" rims or are they OEM rims? If they are indeed 8J in width (OEM), how do you find 255 on them? Isn't the max recommended width 245 on 8J rims?
From the 3rd pic (the one with an Omni behind) it looks as if the rear tyres are "bulging" out a bit when compared to the front tyres.
Lastly, the MPPK is still available for the N47 engine? Any idea if it's available for the newer B47 engine?
Thanks |
i think the same was pointed out by someone else as well, i checked with BMW India and they have this size recommended for a staggered set up, i think internationally people are using this size.
Yes it bulges out more than the front as the front is 225/45/18, and i love the look of the bulge when parked, driveability wise it is good, and performes well, i have been using this size in 17 and now in 18 as well.
MPPK is definitely stopped by BMW india, and i am not sure if it is available for the newer engiine in India, but you can definitely go for a good remap and you should be happy. as the newer engine have good power output compared to earlier engines.
cheers

Yes you are right, I own a 2017 330i here in US with staggered setup and it has the same tire size. Below are few pics of my steed:
Couple of other pics of my beast:

hey,
Would anyone know what would be the cost involved to repaint the front bumper (sports line - Melbourne red), if I were to get it done from the ASS?
It was scratched in a minor incident and I cant bear to look at it !!
I've heard painting costs are negotiable ...is this true?

Yes, if you are not going for Insurance, they should do it for anywhere between 15-25K. Mumbai maybe little expensive, you can visit the dealership and speak to the body shop manager. Also, see if you can somehow fill/ rub the scratch and get a PPF from 3M
Hi there,
My insurance is due for renewal this month-end. I have taken quotes from ICICI Lombard, Royal Sundaram, Bajaj Allianz, Bharti Axa and Reliance General for IDV of 30.9L with 20% NCB. No agent quoted for HDFC Ergo and their website quote was very expensive.
As of now the lowest quote is tied between ICICI and Royal at Rs.67K for full cover (ZERO DEPN BUMPER TO BUMPER, CONSUMABLES, KEY +LOPB + ENGINE (incl Hydrostatic lock) + RSA + TYRE COVER (including punctures) excluding RTI). Rat bites are covered on both. Royal gives multiple claims with zero depn while ICICI is limited to 2 claims per year. Both have cashless. I am not going for BMW secure.
One of the agents was saying that claim settlement could be a pain with Royal, but BMW guys said there is no such issue. Most agents claimed that Royal is expensive (maybe because of multiple claims) but one guy has matched ICICI.
Do any of you have any bad experiences with either of these players in Blore?
Should I double check on any specific cover?
Thanks.
Guys, A friend has recommended that I try Cartisan Bangalore for a 20k service of a 320d (2013).
Do any of you have any experience with them.
I need a regular oil service + brake pad change.
Should I do the oils at Navnit and brakes with Cartisan?
Also, will doing an oil change with Cartisan (FNG) affect resale?
Hi,
so i have been driving my 320 d with the mppk and was quite bored with the power:Frustrati so i decided something more needs to be done, i recently got the quantum remap done which is over and above keeping in mind the car has mppk, means they have a different tune for the mppk cars.
with mppk bmw claims a increase of 13 bhp over stock 184 bhp but i think its little more and additional 40 nm torque, so the new figures were>
- 197 bhp
-420 torque.
as per the 0-100 timings go they claim is reduces by .6 seconds, never had a chance to time it except valley run quarter mile.
WIth quantum the claimed figure over mppk is:
-235bhp
-460 nm torque.
I didnt dyno and neither i will, but what i definitely did was i used gtech to time my car 0-100.
and the new figures with 2 people in the car for 0-100 were quite astonishing.
i clocked 0-100 in 6.05 seconds.
now i am pretty happy with the tune and the new increased powerclap:
cheers
Hi!
Could somebody tell me the recommended tire air pressure for 225/50/R17 for my 3series Sports variant. I am confused between 32psi and 34psi.
Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on the remap, must be a total blast to drive! Any particular reason to go with Quantum instead of any other tuner?

At the time of delivery i was informed to maintain 36. I am maintaining 30-32 now and it has definately improved the ride quality.

31 works best in my experience. Use nitrogen.

Dealer is stupid, my idrive (328i) had mentioned this; Attachment 1714055
^ Check your users manual for more info about your engine, tyres, brakes running in guidelines
YES, but as your's is luxury line you and has some chrome elements on the front bumper so this mod should not be your immediate plan ! |
I have the BMW 320d 2016 prestige model. Do you or anyone know whether I can upgrade my instrument cluster to the new digital instrument panel? I stay in Bangalore. Will Navnit do it for me or do i need to buy it from bimmertech as aftermarket spare and get it done outside?

That's an easy job.
You can contact

They will be able to help you get this retrofitted in Bangalore :thumbs up
BMW Experts, off late I am hearing a humming sound when I reach say 120 kmph. I feel it comes from rear. I maintain F30 prescribed tyre pressure, I am running on original Bridgestone RFTs (the car has done 28k). I have also tried wheel alignment and balancing. My service advisor was not able to pin point the issue and went all the way to checking engine mounts.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any pointers what could be the issue(s)?
