I recently test driven Duster in Pune.

Pros: Very refined engine and car like handling.

Cons: Front windshield is too close to driver. Also no head room was deal breaker.

OTR price quoted close to 10L after discount for 85PS Diesel.

With regards to the rusting of body panels, this site has posted photographs and pointed out the affected areas (hope I am not duplicating information)

With regards to the air filter replacement, I saw a video of air filter replacement for Renault Logan.
I am not sure if the air-box is the same in Duster because I have never looked under the engine cover. I hope other members can comment.

Need a favour! My friend is looking to buy a new car and is confused between Duster and Terrano.

Getting a good discount on 2014 duster 85ps Rxl plus (current OTR - 1318000, after discount otr - 1225000 + freebies like side steps, reverse parking camera and seat covers). Whereas the mid-variant 85 ps of Terrano after discount is costing somewhere around 1270000 (actual OTR 1354000 Hyderabad location).

Please advise.

I will suggest 2015 duster or 2014 terrano.Don't go for 2014 duster ,because 2015 duster has several small but significant improvements which can not be added to 2014 duster.So if he is going for 2014 model ,it is better to go with terrano.

We booked Duster 85ps rxl plus 2015 (OTR - 1257000 including nil dep and 4 years warranty and free seat covers). The dealer is insisting on teflon coating, i denied it straight away. Also planning to negotiate essential kit as they charging quite high for what they are providing.
Which is the best pair of rubbers for this car? We would be getting the delivery some time next week. Just wanted to make sure to swap/exchange the tyres if we dont get a good make. Any suggestions?

Current odo reading of my duster is 14100 Km.I did my service at 10000 Km.

But I was forced to revisit Renault Kottayam,for following complaints - a faulty horn and "tak tak " sound from front right side wheel , especially while turning at slow speed.

The noise was due to faulty stabilizer bar bush.One good thing is that,since there are plenty of Dusters on road,mechanics are well aware of most of the common issues.

Both the issues were sorted out.The cost of bush was 196 Rs.The same was changed on both sides.Now the sound is gone.

The horn got replaced under warranty.

Since few team bhpians suggested about changing break pads at 15000 Km I did change the same .I think it turned out to be a wise decision,or else my front discs would have been damaged in no time.Total cost for brake pads is around 2570 Rs.

I drive through very dusty roads,so I replaced my air filter too.The change in performance is worth the cost of 746 Rs.

Renault is providing free upgrade of power steering pipe.I was given a free swap under warranty. Now the steering is lighter and the "kick back" especially during cornering is gone!If anybody is still waiting for the upgrade ,I strongly recommend it .

Total cost was around 5000 Rs, including labour charges.

Wondering whether 15k kms is a little too early for brake pads to wear out.

Question for other owners - what is the average change interval observed?

Indeed. Don't worry, I know a couple of owners who've clocked 30k plus using the factory fitted pads. Mine is @ 24k now, and the pads are still meaty enough; should easily last another 10-12k at least; however I might consider changing them at 30k service. I'm not an aggressive driver by any means :)

I changed mine at 30K. Still going strong at 50K.

I too went for the TD. The dealer told me that the 2014 had a 4 year warranty against only 2 years on the 2015 model.

The additional 2 year warranty is costing 15k.

The Dec 2014 RXZ Fab edition (110) has whopping 1.5 lac discount and is only 22k costlier than the RXL+ of 85 PS. Logical to buy it.

All this talk about brake pads is worrying me - I am at 24k and have not felt any fading in the brakes or any squeaking.

Am I better off checking my pads? How do I do it without taking it off the car?

(Always thought that the squealing was designed into pads for replacement.

Brake pad wear depends on mainly two factors. First is the quality of the composite material used. Second is the usage pattern. In our country brake usage increases due to frequent need for braking. This is also directly proportionate to the vehicle speed.
The general speed at which Dusters are driven is much higher than a small hatchback is usually driven.
In other words, the pads of Duster or similar cars are likely to need replacement at lesser intervals.

That's reassuring. Anything above 20-25K sounds reasonable.

Do you guys replace air filter at every 10k?

Yes. I just go with the service manual recommended items and what the service advisor mentions.

:Shockked: When did that happen! The 4 four year warranty was good gesture on the part of Renault I thought. Why remove it? More margins and more greed?
