Does this "smoking" call for a service visit?

It could be normal as the driver would have stepped on the pedal after the speed breaker. The RPM shoots up quickly specially in 1st gear and reverse.

It happens even on brand new Dusters. But as you mention the smoke is not continuous. It is a burst of black smoke.

If you reset the trip & start with bumper to bumper traffic, steep uphill, heavy foot AND/OR lot of idling, you will start the FE in MID as low as 8~12 kmpl.

Yes, as stated above, I have found the FE @ MID pretty accurate.
We can check kms covered over fuel consumed! :) - for comparison with MID indication. (with calculating exact fuel used - as given below)

2. Since we know, how to check fuel in tank:

I typically check fuel in tank before I go to refuel.
Say if it is 11L, & I have to drive 15kms to get to the bunk, I plan to fill in exactly 40L.
Easy to cross check after refuel also! (limits the chances of short-fueling tricks too)

You are right. After filling fuel and resetting the trip meter, I have done 5-6 short trips of 3-6 kms each through some bad roads with heavy traffic and the FE reported by MID was 8kmpl. It has since then steadily increased and as of today evening it is 13.5kmpl (after covering 120 odd kms total).

Are u not being given a flat 30000 rs discount ! Is it only in this side of the country ?? I also haggled out a good discount on my RXL PLUS DIESEL , approx 17000 on insurance and zero dep and also a 2500 rs discount on the rear sensors..(in Ghaziabad)

There is a "free trip to Thailand" offer ALSO alongside these discounts ,, but it is an eyewash since you have to pay some 20-30000 in taxes levies etc.
You might get a discount at the year end because dealers try to get rid of "previous" years pieces(because they depreciate in the new year), But then this discount would have gone . If you can , then wait longer .. A facelift is due in mid 2015 (but not before that).

Looks good, but £112.00 for a piece is not a small amount :)

The only grouse I have with the universal arm rest from ebay and others is that they press into the seat belt locks which is a bit inconvenient to use.

The SA was not willing to budge on the insurance and i was pushing him to waive the insurance:D. He was not willing to offer me a reduced price or a discount on the on road price, his reason was that the RxL+ model was already discounted to bring it down under the 10 lacs segment.

Just back from a 3300 km trip to North India with my new Duster 85ps. I realised that while I actually bought 204 litres of diesel (full tank to full tank), according to my trip meter I had consumed 180 litres. This could mean either the trip computer is off the mark or a few pumps gave me less fuel than they billed for. Or a combination of both.

Some friends say their trip computers are about ten per cent off. Has anyone here done a cross check on their Duster trip computer? If yes, what is the finding please?
