Dont expect it to be a beast. Its got just enough power to cruise on the highway. Whether full load or not, I never take beyond just above three digits. Thats it. Beyond that even I am not comfortable and I also feel the engine straining to deliver. Any more push and you would see your FE go down drastically. So I leave it at that.

I think @CD already answered that question for you.
Thanks Ampere. How accurate is the FE displayed in MID? It's showing around 12 as of now.

12 is way too low. You should be seeing any thing from 17-22/23. I have been getting a consistent 17-19 over 2 years. An average of 17.5. (My city drive is almost like a highway drive. So assume consume consistent highway like driving pattern. Early mornings no AC and turned on when needed late in the days). Some guys have also been getting 20+. The MID typically shows 0.5 to 1 point higher for me.

Set up a common pump based on your choice of good pumps. And see for about 3-4 refills. If you go with Auto cut-off, then use the same gun at the pump. Or else if you go with "brim" level fill, then nothing needed. Just stick to the pump. In about 3-4 fills, you should see a pattern.

May be its too early. I refilled yesterday and reset the trip meter. I have covered around 60 kms (around 20 kms within Kochi traffic and 40kms in the congested NH17) till now and FE shows 12.1. I was expecting around 14-15.

When I have an average speed of 12-15 KMPH during city use, i get a mileage of 13-14
This is the worst I have seen during one year of ownership. Yes, such average speeds are possible in Bangalore
(I own an 85PS Duster, sorry if the info does not help)

Thanks Sumeshmani. Average speed and FE in Kochi is comparable due to the ongoing metro construction work and horrible roads.

Well I had a talk to my friend who has been a proud owner of a duster 85 bhp. According to him he gets a consistent 14 in city traffic and 16 in highway drives. All figures with AC ON.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

I get about 13.4 kmpl too. Strangely, seems to have dropped to around 12.5 after the 2nd service. 12.5 k km.

I dont get more than 15kmpl on the highway.

AC on; highway speeds around 120 steady.

That is strange. I thought FE will go up after 1st service. 12.5 seems to be very low for a 85ps vehicle.
I was talking to a colleague who owns 85ps and he reported similar FE 13-14 for local city runs (Kochi) and around 16-17 in highway (Kerala). His car is 1 yr old with 14k on ODO.

Sridhu
The FE tends to deteriorate as soon as start driving above 80-90 Kmph. There you considerably improve these figures if you cruise around 80-90 kmph mark.
I have experienced this in my Swift and now in my diesel City too.

FE is pretty accurate. Did a tank full test on my Bangalore-Mahabalipuram-Pondicherry-Bangalore trip last week. The FE was 17.2kmpl on the MID and 17.3 on tank full. Used 55ltrs as per MID and 54.24lt on tank full. For around 950km tank full, this is accurate enough.

We were 4 adults and 3 kids with luggage for 5days.

Yours is a new car. Keep rpm below 2500 till around 3500kms. Your FE is real world for the traffic conditions mentioned. If you drive in 2nd and 3rd gears most of the time. Around 12 is what you get. Around 13 to 14 if you are very gentle on acceleration after stops. You need to be very light footed on 1st gear. That's a gas guzzler. Watch the rpm on 1st gear.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

I have 2 things to share:

1. Low FE @ MID:
Cosider this scenario:
If you reset the trip & start with bumper to bumper traffic, steep uphill, heavy foot AND/OR lot of idling, you will start the FE in MID as low as 8~12 kmpl.
Then you drive for 10 kms in above conditions.
Later, even if you drive in best of the conditions for next 10 kms, your FE is still going to be like 15~16 kmpl.

You will only get a true-picture if you drive like 100+kms or so after trip reset. (as the FE will be a average of fuel used over those many kms)
So - frequent resets could give skewed results.

Yes, as stated above, I have found the FE @ MID pretty accurate.
We can check kms covered over fuel consumed! - for comparison with MID indication. (with calculating exact fuel used - as given below)

2. Since we know, how to check fuel in tank:
Checking fuel in Duster tank

I typically check fuel in tank before I go to refuel.
Say if it is 11L, & I have to drive 15kms to get to the bunk, I plan to fill in exactly 40L.
Easy to cross check after refuel also! (limits the chances of short-fueling tricks too)

Ace.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

My brother has a black duster RXL which he took from Whitefield Bangalore an year back.
He met with an accident couple of days back, when he hit a TATA Sumo from behind. Thanks to the sluggish braking mechanism of Duster and it’s amazing build quality (Only two things I am not happy with Duster even after doing 25k kms). Sumo fellow escaped with a minor scratch on back bumper where as the Duster has broken front grill, dent on the bonnet, broken headlight clamps and a broken front armor (this was an extra fitting from Renault itself)

Alas, TRIDENT Renault Whitefield provided a jaw dropping quote for a whopping amount of Rs. 1,15,857. Highlights shown as below -

Front Bumper 7800.00
Bonnet 13500.00
Bonnet Inches 2700.00
RH Head Light 6200.00
RH Fender 6800.00
Upper Member 4600.00
Chrome Grill 22000.00
Chrome Grill Lower Beam 18500.00

Painting + Labor charge extra .

I cannot imagine a flimsy grill like what Duster has can cost 22K, and obviously feeling ransacked by the service folks.

Sharing this information, so that the Duster owners including me should not get Done and Dusted by the loot called service and maintenance by our very own dealer.

Insurance is the one that bails these guys out. Had to shell out roughly 11.5k from hand.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

All,

2 Questions:

1. System D
Has any one of you used System D (IFTEX) in your (Diesel) Dusters?
Does it help, really!?
I know there is a thread here, but, as much as I could read through it, it seemed fairly - inconclusive.
2. Smoking Duster
I just observed, our crome-tipped exhaust has blackened at the bottom part.
So, I checked & observed - while it is pulled away (not from stand still), but after a speed-breaker, it spews almost a smallish (1 cu. ft.) cloud of smoke :(

Also, the city FE is (just) a notch lesser than what it used to be.
It is like 17ish, it used to be 18+ kmpl.
Highway FE is still 21~kmpl.

Our duster is 23K kms run & both services were done at respected 10K intervals.

FE is not my point of concern, but, I keep a watch to be sure that engine/components are doing fine.

Does this "smoking" call for a service visit?
Ace.
