I was able to get few pictures with my phone. Do see if it helps.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

On every hump when my car goes, I hear a hissing sound from the suspension area. Does this mean that some kind of lubrication is required for the suspension to be noise free.

These would be the gas struts as compress and retract. This is not an issue, In my Scorpio this sound is quiet prominent from day 1.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Thanks Patron for sharing the info, BTW my dealers salesman was 100% sure that elegance plus has got the original leather seat covers LOL, god save from these sales people. Anyways paying almost 40K for cruise control, art leather seat cover and parking sensor doesn't makes sense to me, instead they could have charged bit more for providing genuine leather seat covers.

Eagerly waiting for your ride's review as yours would the first DSG in this site(If I am not wrong). Have driven my manual around 2500KM so far and haven't done a long trip yet. Fortunately I have one turning up this week and I will be driving to chennai for a bachelors party . Hopefully I would be writing a review myself sometime within this month.

We already have a fellow member Charansuki who owns a DSG and below is the thread's link.

Skoda rapid 2012

Hi all
My Skoda rapid elegance with the stock head unit has never played an SD card. I have tried 2 cards, one was a class 2 sdhc 8gb, and the other class 4 sdhc 16gb. Both were formatted FAT32. The head unit comes up with a "SD error'.
So all I have is aux and stock speakers. The CD player doesn't work either.
Now, my questions, should you choose to reply
1. What is the stock rapid 2012 head unit called?(rcd 310,510,etc)
2. Could there be any workaround for the sd error? Anything I could try doing to make it work?
3. If sd card will not work, I would want to change the head unit to a better one. Usb is a must have, Bluetooth is not required.
I'm loathe to open up the door pads, hence not keen to upgrade speakers, at least not before I test how these speakers sound from sd card or usb.

Gurus, kindly advice.

Regards,
Shyam.

And you have never complained to the Skoda A.S.S.? If your car is 2012, is it not still in Warranty?

1. Put the onus on Skoda to prove to you that the OE HU SD Card slot works. At least then you will know what is wrong with the SD cards that you were trying to use

2. Ditto for the CD player in the stock HU

Thanks for the quick one DerAlte.
The Rapid is with the family only since 1 month; it was bought used, and the previous owner had never bought extended warranty. Before you guys kill me, i knew the previous owner, and the car has a thorough service history with no complaints. Further, I got it for what I thought was a good price. Wisdom or Folly, only time will tell.
The 45k service will be due in 2months time, and I will ask them then. It is a good 40kms away.

Now since it is out of warranty, will my purpose be served if I buy an RCD 320/ 510(perhaps from someone who is looking to upgrade at an accessories shop)? I could use Usb then, and perhaps bluetooth too. I ask this specifically because I have read through the Polo/Vento threads, but there are no relevant ones for the rapid.

Thank you,
Shyam.

It doesn't have to be Rapid specific. Please go through the threads once again, especially the Skoda ones. An alternative is the Blaupunkt 835 Philadelphia.

Check TBHP classifieds if anyone has put up an old OE HU for sale.

Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

I got a call from the ASS in Kandivali saying that I need to undergo a 6 monthly check up.

When asked why I need to do the check up every 6 months rather than the 15000km specified by Skoda I got a reply saying it is for your own good , we will check your car computer etc.

When I raised my voice saying you guys tried to scam me last time around saying if i dont adhere my extended warranty will be void, the lady at the other side told me "Sir it is for your own good if you get the car checked frequently"

I was really pissed off and asked her to connect me to the manager when she said the manager was on holiday today.

I really doubt Skoda is doing this as these "Service centres" are not ready to give anything in writing.

This is the Senator Service centre I'm talking about.

I have the OEM unit from my 2013 Vento tsi.
Does the Rapid use the same unit? I assume the vento model is the RCD 320. Did not attempt selling it since I assumed no one would want it. Can consider selling if it works and you are interested. It was replaced with the Philadelphia 835 on day one. So pretty much brand new.

So we decided to continue home (which was around 15kms away) and after reaching home, we found that on switching on the ignition (without starting the car), the glow plug light would start flashing, instead of going out almost immediately after turning on the ignition. This happens about a fourth of the time we switch on the ignition, the remaining times, the glow plug light goes out as usual.

The manual simply says that the flashing indicates a possible engine control issue.

Any idea what could be wrong here?
We plan to take it to the Skoda service center ASAP.
Hi, I am facing the exact same issue. Mine is the 1.5 DSG variant and just completed 2000 Kms. The flash came on yesterday evening while driving back from work. Switched off the engine once I got home and the flashing light was gone after a restart. Went for a good 58 kms drive and it did not flash again. Today again while driving to a friend's place, noticed the flash light after 35 odd kms and there was a drop in engine performance. The engine felt sluggish and as if the turbo was not working. However a restart solved the issue again. While returning home the flashing light appeared again after 30 odd kms and similar drop in engine performance. A restart again resolved the issue and light was also gone.

After reaching home opened the hood and nothing was evident except a lose plastic cover of a group of wires. I am now keeping my fingers crossed. What was the final outcome of your friend's case?
