Hello everyone. My fist car has been an Eon and I have been driving it for 7 months now. Happy with it overall, but there are 1-2 topics which I would like to list down here for the more experienced members to comment upon.

1) This incident happened around the 1200 km mark, around 1.5 months after buying. I was going up a relatively steep incline (from a side lane to the main road) with full AC (45 deg temperatures) on 1st gear. As I was quite a newbie driver back then, I didn't provide enough throttle input and the car stalled. I pressed the clutch and brake to bring it back to neutral but to my surprise, the clutch got depressed but the brake pedal was jammed. The car started rolling back and I had to apply the handbrake to stop it from rolling further. Thankfully, there was no one me otherwise I would have rolled on and hit him/her.

Have again experienced this 1-2 times when I get into the car in the morning. When the engine is turned off completely, the brake pedal does not move at all.

Is this an issue or something expected?

2) I can constantly hear a very feeble metallic screeching from the base of one of the seats. It keeps happening when I go over bump or accelerate/brake. It's so feeble that any other passenger travelling with me never even noticed. But bringing it to one of my regular co-travellers attention, he started noticing it every day.

Any ideas what could be the cause? Pretty sure that it is from the base of one of the seats inside the cabin.

When the engine rpm is low (I mean near stalling) and when the engine is OFF, the Brake booster isn't able to generate enough vacuum to keep the pedal pressure to normal standards hence the pedal becomes hard.

Once the rpm reaches idling range or above, vacuum is restored hence pedal becomes free. Nothing to worry IMO.

Get the seat rails and all hinges/linkages lubricated. Sound will disappear.

Dear Dhawal20,

a4anurag has put it very nicely.

Let me add my 2 bits: Way back in 2002~3 I had my first taste of power brakes and power steering. In my office there was a slight slope. One day I tried to change the position of the car without starting the engine - just by relying on gravity and slope. It was an Indica DLS I think. Not just the brake but the steering too was very - very - very hard! From that day onward, I have never tried it again! So - to add to a4anurag's comment - you can loose steering control too - if the engine stalls! Take care.

My family owns one for three years now and having driven one extensively I have arrived at a conclusion that cars in this price bracket are a major compromise on safety and other parameters. Im talking Alto and Kwid here as well. We are going to upgrade to a proper hatch/sedan/mini suv after letting go of the Eon.

What are your views on this?

Hi Sebring, although your statement is true in principle, I do have a different perspective on this. The question which can be asked is, "major compromise on safety", but with respect to what?

If you compare it to the more expensive cars, no doubt, yes. But for someone like me who would be driving it solo or with my girlfriend for the most part, for regular commute and the occasional long trip, at this price point, it is a substitute for a 1 lakh+ costing bike.

Now, consider the road safety aspects, protection from extreme weather, big road potholes, highway drives and everything else from that perspective and the Eon will feel much safer. Of course it costs 3-4 times the amount, but for someone like me where a two wheeler was a considerable alternative and breaking the bank was never the idea, a budget car any day wins. If the cheapest, although a much safer car, had cost 6 lakh plus, I would rather be driving an Avenger cruise.

That being said, I do agree that safety needs to be put ahead of other "features" while designing cars. The only reason for going for the Sportz variant was the presence of an Airbag. Would have loved to spend 50k for another airbag and ABS, if it had been available an option back then.

To all the Eon owners, how has been the long term reliability of this car? Please share how many kms you have driven and any mechanical faults or niggles, if any you have faced.

Is it wise to book this car in 2016. Asking because it's been 5 years of this car now with no changes by Hyundai at all.

Hi,
I have driven close to 34k kms in 2 years. There has not been a single reliability issue with respect to mechanical aspect. It is really good one for city. For more info you can also go through my thread.

Hyundai Eon Sportz

Just a suggestion. If you could stretch your budget a bit you can get some thing from the next segment. There are lots of options but you might end up with a base version of those. :)

I own a 2012 model and done 35K kms till date. The car runs absolutely fine without any trouble with periodic servicing (touchwood).

Also if possible stretch your budget and check the Tiago

Thanks for the heads up guys!
This one is for my cousin so the final decision is up to him.

Tiago has high waiting period so guess that has to be ruled out.
Will update in due course.
Thanks.

Hi guys

Lately in the last week or so I am observing an odd sound in my little eon.

Type of sound: As if some spoon is being rubbed or slightly rolled inside a round metal container. Lols.

Area from where the sound is coming: Probably in the rear driver side wheel

When does the sound come: I accelerate the car and when I remove my foot from the pedal and slightly touch the brake pedal then the sound comes.

Its not a very harsh sound but it is sometimes even when I dont touch the brake pedal. Is it do with the brakes?

On a different note I am about to purchase another vehicle and I am in a quandary whether I should keep my little eon or sell it. Its run a little under 40k in less than 4 years. Have put Michelin xm2s at 36k. Honestly I dont want to give it away. What should I do?

Thanks.

Hi guys, I have a question. Any help would be appreciated.

I got my 2nd service (1 year) done today. During delivery, as it was dark, I specifically asked the service advisor if wheel rotation was done, and he replied yes. On coming back home and checking, I found that the spare wheel was still the new, unused one. I called the advisor right away and he came up with the explanation immediately that they did it, but on driving, the car started pulling in one direction, so they reverted it. If I still want to do it, I can come over and they will do it for anyways.

Now, I have a few questions. Could his explanation be genuine or is he simply bullshitting on being caught? If the car was really pulling, isn't it an alignment problem which they should have fixed (they charged for wheel alignment and balancing)? What should I do next? Get it done anyways, leave it as it is, or get it done from somewhere outside?

What is the actual fuel efficiency in city traffic? I'm trying to understand the FE between Eon, Alto 800 & Alto K10 exclusively for city use.

Anyone among above can return 17-18 kmpl?

We had a Eon that we sold some months back and upgraded to the Ignis Automatic. The Eon used to give 14 to 14.5 kmpl on average in Bangalore City Traffic.

Finally upgrading the shoes on our Bee. Hopefully, this is the correct upsize.
Pictures and user experience Coming Soon.

My Eon came factory shod with 145/80 R12 Ducaro tyres. After a lot of deliberation on whether to change the car to a bigger SUV or a Sedan I decided to retain it and upsize the tyres.

Because, mechanically the car is very sound with zero rattles and very reliable till now - with the only sour spots being the low mileage and worse; poor ground clearance. This car seemed to scrape everything underneath before the Rogerabs came to the rescue.

Got a fair swap deal on Michelin 165/65 R13. The tyres are really good and grip the road well.

Since it was raining, got to test them to a great extent and they measure up indeed! - inspiring a lot of confidence in turns and stops.

Now its eerily quiet in the cabin and I never realised tyres could impact handling to such degree. The rims are Neo and jut out a wee bit, giving the car a great presence.
