Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Just curious!
How come an XUV 500 (2014)'s body type was categorised as Sedan? My MS Brezza's body type in RC book is SUV.

Even our XUV (2016) has been categorised as a sedan in the RC. Error by the officials at the RTO?

Yes, that is an error by the RTO officials. Please have it corrected, just to make sure no issues going ahead.

Again Saloon also means Sedan, so please have it changed to SUV. Mine had SUV as the body type.

Carrying fuel inside a car is a BAD idea. If you plan to go for a long drive on Indian highways and carry cans of fuel inside the car, it is a recipe for disaster. Spare fuel should be carried in specially designed metallic jerry cans fixed outside the passenger cabin.

You are 100 times better off compared to my case.

My Qualis is considered Omnibus. Screen shot below is from an App that pulls data from Parivahan. Even my RC book has the same thing written

I think there was tax component for SUV cars which Mahindra simply avoided it by lower the ground clearance using a plastic cladding. Hence I think XUV was registered as a sedan.

Ok guys, my XUV is showing air bag display as glow. I have searched the forum and culprit seems to be the driver side mat which I think got pushed by a novice wallet driver. How do I correct it? Or should it be corrected by service engineer only?
Also I my XUV completed 65,000kms. During the last service of 60k the service engineer told me that brakes pads are fine for now but may need to be checked before the next 10k Kms. Now my question how would I know that it needs to be changed? He told me that there will be grinding noise, which I haven't. I have road trip of 2.5k Kms coming up. Should I go for thorough checkup? I don't have any issues apart from the two above.
What all things get checked as part of general checkup.also they are charging 1200.
Please advise on XUV Checkup.

Lowering GC to get registered as sedan/saloon? Then the same has to be the case in every XUV RC. But that's not the case. Also, Hexa too is registered as saloon though nothing has been done to the GC. Could you share the info regarding saving the tax component by auto makers? It would be an interesting read and also can understand why it is different for different registrations in various geographies!

These are two unrelated aspects!

You are absolutely right, they are not related to registration of XUV. My November 2011 XUV RC has Saloon mentioned on it which was well before this thing came into force (2013 as per article).

Shadow problem is solved

We have installed OSRAM Xenon H7 kit in the low beam and the shadow was prominent.
Yesterday the bulb was rotated 180 degrees and the issue is solved.

For enabling rotation, little bit grinding was done on the bulb opposite to the notch.

Dear Bhpians , I need your opinion on below :I am getting a discount offer of 1 Lac on XUV W6 AT variant . It's a November 2017 model. Is this discount good enough for more than 6 months old vehicle , also considering the fact that W6 variant is no more in production ? If it is too less then how much should I ask for ? I intend to keep the car for 5-7 years.
