Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Hi folks. My jetta was recently idling for a longer period of time and the radiator fan kicked in as usual. However what I did notice is that during shut down, there was a chic chic sound which was quite noticeable. The air con fan wasn't making this sound either at all.

- What could be the issue here? Am I looking at a complete radiator fan set replacement?

- the car was driven through a lot of water. Can it be due to this?

Assuming it is in pristine condition, I would suggest around 8-9L in Bangalore.

In 2018 April, I brought 2014 HL TDI with 36K kms for Rs 13L with brand new tyres, with HID and AFS, I am not sure if 2013 model has HIDs and AFS.

A known friend of mine sold a 2014 July Jetta Highline DSG (in Bombay) with AFS and Bi-Xenons, Dual Zone AC etc. done 40,000-kms on the odo for 6L a week ago.

Keeping that in mind, you should expect around 5-5.25L realistically.

Coolant light started flashing. checked the manual, which said coolant level low, do not drive on. Popped the hood up, coolant was almost zero. Added some water quickly, hope thats ok and put the car back in parking.

No leak marks in my parking slot and last i drove the car for usual AMD-BRD commute for about 300 kms without any issues. After 3 days in parking the coolant level went to almost zero.

Anyone experienced this? Can this be a famous radiator leak? I will check the parking place again in evening and see if that water has leaked or not? There has to be some leak i believe, but how come it just vanished? Experts please advice.
Seems to be a water pump issue. Any update on this?

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

My brother's Jetta had his first major mechanical issue that could leave him stranded by the road.

Gearshift linkage seems to be broken. Just moves around freely. Gearbox stuck in 3rd gear. Car has 50,000 km on the odo.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

I have noticed something peculiar on my Jetta. While the doors auto-lock above a certain speed, the fuel tank does not.

I noticed this while waiting at a traffic light, a person seeking alms leaned against the fuel tank cap which opened. Is this by design because the tank does lock if I press the door lock button manually?

If someone leans on the tank cap or presses it when the car is locked, it flings open if you unlock the car. I have faced this issue twice on my Jetta.

If the cap locks and unlocks with the central locking, there is no need to worry at all. This is a problem with many German cars.

My Jetta is the same. The fuel-flap cannot be locked. Forget auto-locking when the car achieves a certain speed, you cannot lock the fuel-flap even when manually locking the car after parking. Try it.

The surprising part is that the dealer and service personnel were not aware of this, and were very surprised when I demonstrated this to them.

The problem here is, I remember reading somewhere (do not remember if it was the user manual or some feature list somewhere) that the fuel-flap is supposed to lock with central locking. And no one in VW seems to be able to make it happen or even be aware that it does not happen.

Cheers

Yes the fuel cap is suppose to lock with central locking and it will happen.

In your case the issue is with fuel door actuator. I had similar problem in my jetta. once it was replaced the issue got fully resolved. It costed me ~Rs.4K( I don't remember exactly) and half day of work. Actually it is very easy to replace by yourself, if you are able to access to fuel door actuator. Lot of material, DIY videos available on youtube.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

In my case I can lock it manually through central locking but it does not auto-lock (which clicks in once I cross the minimum speed) with the central locking. The service center guys are unable to figure this out.

Is it a hardware issue or a issue with the software setting? Any help is appreciated.

While your doors lock, and stay locked. As far as I know the fuel tank lid will unlock when you go below 15kmph or something like that. That's why its open when you are stopped, while the doors remain locked.
