Re: Bombay Tyres - Santacruz(Milan subway),Dahisar & Borivali So, I have been a customer of Bombay tyres (vile parle branch) for 5 years now. Have purchased a lot of tyres and alloy sets in this duration. I am posting my thoughts and experiences about this shop (purely my opinion):
What is good:
1. Has a good range of alloy wheels in this area. I never felt the need to explore other shops in the city for more options. I have purchased 3 sets of alloys in these 5 years. He has cheap to pricey options.
2. Mr. Nanda is a decent fellow who will guide you very well. Initially, when I was a noob who wanted fat and wide tyres, I was thankfully suggested a right upsize. I have been happy with his tyre recommendations over these years (Please note that I knew my requirements; just that I never did any research pre-purchase). He gives sound advice, and will answer all your queries to the best of his knowledge very patiently.
3. Till date, all the tyres I have purchased from him have been fresh (except the michelins).
4. Although I have never had the misfortune to claim tyre warranty, I have seen Mr. Nanda help out many people.
5. Has helped me out as well many times when I needed his services on an emergency basis (He kept his shop open for more than an hour post his closing time on two occasions when I needed to procure tyres immediately, and sourced me steel rims as well).
6. Fast. I never spend more than 1/2 hour - 45 mins. in his shop. Only on one occasion, I had to wait for 2-3 hrs., since he had to order the tyres from his godown.
What I feel is not good:
1. Pricey. The other tyre shops in milan subway have a more competitive price. I have tried to pitch him with others. Doesn't budge beyond a certain limit (maybe I am not a good negotiator?). Infact, just recently, I had inquired for a set of nankangs, his quote was 2k more than others!
2. I would not recommend getting an alignment done here. ALL of the vehicles which I got done from his shop pull to the left post alignment. Infact, in one of the cars, I was so irritated, that I visited his shop thrice to complain. Mr. Nanda was insistent that it was due to new tyres. Needless to say, I got it corrected at another shop. Post this incident, I refuse to get an alignment done at his shop.
3. Thrice, I have realized later that some of the wheels had an excess weights put on. On a scorpio's tyre one of the wheel took 500 gms!! I got it corrected at another shop, where about 225 gms was removed (when I went for my routine 10k kms WA/WB). Either his machine is bad or his workers put more weights on the wheels. I don't know..
Neutral points (meaning, its upto you to decide):
1. I would have liked more options with regards to tyre companies. He is primarily a dealer for michelins, yokos, bridgestones, mrf, jk, continentals, goodyears and nankang/nexen (this is recent). I am personally now moving towards apollo/kumho/maxxis/kenda/pirreli/ceat brands (partially due to cost and partially because I like to try out newer brands). For these, I have to search for other shops. This is just a personal preference.
2. Buyback price of old tyres is just bad. I have had better quotes for old tyres from other dealers. I have stopped selling him my old sets.
I am a very loyal person in general. I still go to his shop when the difference in quotes from other tyre dealers and Mr. Nanda is not more than 500-1000 for the entire tyre set and when I want to buy alloys. On an average he gets Rs.20k-30k worth of business from me every year (this year alone, I have bought Rs. 52k worth of stuff from him).
But of late I am getting significantly better prices with other dealers. Add this to the fact that I want to try out other brands, hence I have decided to slowly limit my purchases from him.
Now, of all the tyre shops in the team-bhp directory, I have dealt with saifee and bombay tyres (since I have personally started maintaining cars, past 5 years). Both are pricey (saifee has been consistently more expensive and is very slow in their services). I feel that most tyre dealers are same, and it depends on your relationship with the shop. If you plan to purchase from bombay tyres (vile parle branch), my only advice would be to get the alignment done from somewhere else. I have had consistent bad results as far as alignment is concerned.
I have now started to explore other tyre shops in the city, where I get much much better price (and a freshly manufactured tyre as well). I will post in the directory once I have had a sufficient experience.
All in all, I have been overall happy with Mr. Nanda's services. My friends whom I recommended to him, also report the same. He is an affable man, but just be cautious, he is a businessman all the same..
Thanks,
