Exhausts – BAR Exhaust (Bombay Central, Mumbai)

Products sold:

•Everything to do with exhausts. Headers, mufflers, pipes, expansion chambers etc. (Indian and Foreign vehicles)

Services offered:

•Free flow exhaust systems - not the typical bolt on types but custom made as per customers preferences
•They also do OEM replacements exhaust systems

What I like:

•A team of dedicated Exhaust specialists. And since this is their main job, they know exactly what to do – no experimentation.
•Entire fabrication work done inhouse.
•Whether it is a turbo setup or a simple free flow exhaust, his team will work till the customer gets the desired outcome even if it is 12 in the night.
•Various options even for a small car like my Alto. You get to choose from what you are really happy with. His team would show you different combinations either with an end can or setting the loudness of the sound
•Customer friendly attitude – I feel this is a very important aspect because every customer is important to them.
•The customer can get the material of their choice. Will also give you the "stainless steel" option if you can extend your budget.
•They can also source air filters, spark plugs, plug wires and even help you to get your ECU remapped – One stop shop.

What I don't like:

•Place where it is located - But can’t crib much because they give you quality stuff.

Pricing: Reasonable

Speciality / USP: According to me they are the best exhaust guys in Bombay. Non experimental and No nonsense business.

What I have bought from him: Performance exhaust for my Alto, spark plugs and conical air filter. Custom Free flow exhaust for my best friend's Scorpio MHawk, also getting an OEM replacement exhaust for my Laura TSi.

Hey, thanks for sharing! Glad to see a seemingly top quality exhaust chap, other than AutoMech. I'd love to hear from other BHPians who have used Afzal's services.

@speedsatya : Ya you heard it right FFE for an already powerful MHawk engine. I have been personally driving this beast for the last few days and see a great improvement in performance. It is not at all sluggish and drives like a petrol car We are planning on the CAI and air filter next week on the scorpio.

And the coming Monday we will GO FIDA, because a 6 month old diesel fiesta is going to get a taste of Free flow exhaust, air filter and maybe also get PETED the next day.

I have done my car exhaust job from him. Im sorry to say however that his knowledge regarding car exhausts is quite limited. Its the customers who will be on the receiving end. I've interacted both with Panchal at Automech and this person. Work at Automech and this place is quite different.
I got an exhaust with a good quality steel, it had good low end torque, but had reduced top end. After consulting Behram Dhabhar it was found that the back pressure was high. The muffler size in terms of volume should have been more.

I have used Afzal's palce specifically when i was turbo charging my swift. I was disappointed at his work.

I went to hi first when i got a filter put in my Swift. The pipe was so badly finished and put that it kept on clanging all over. Moreover it was too long for any effect to take place.

Then I was directed to him by Karan, who was initialing my install and recommended him, as well as Viper who had got a lot of work done from him.

He provided top class service (maybe due to the fact that Jignesh accompanied me to his place) but he messed up on the manifold install which was supposed to be a bolt on. Then the intercooler pipes were jutting out from the front bumper. He cancelled the fogs (without any interaction from either me or Viper) and he sourced the intercooler pipes from the fogs. My car looked like it had two u loops or U shackles. Was so disappointed at this work that i got the rest of the piping done form Automech.

I dont know why, neither Karan nor Viper advised me on Automech.

In my opinion Automech is thoroughly professional and know their job. Nothing against BAR though, he may be good for simple free flows, not for more technical jobs. One might argue that hes done many TC cars but then it is a case of trial and error i guess.

Sorry not putting anyone down, strictly speaking of my own experience.

Since there clearly seem to be mixed opinions on this Directory entry i have added a poll to let viewers get a clearer overview.

Please do vote on how your experience was.

Thanks,

Individual views

Guys I do understand everyone has a take on the work done by some of the good tuners here. And it is an individual's view and I appreciate it. Maybe even Karan and Viper would have gotten a lot of their cars done here and that's why they trust Afzal and his team. So do I and some of my friends who have experienced Afzals work.
Because Automech has been compared directly I have only one thing to say. I have previously used Automech's services and because I wasn't happy I went to Afzal who did a quality job for my ride.

So as Rehaan suggests, we vote on how individual experiences .

Cheers

I had my Elantra exhaust done from him (via Viper). Though he only had to do the intermediate piping ( i already had the headers & muffler), i am VERY happy with his work. He even modified the SS headers which i bought from Korea, because they were'nt fitting properly. The quality of his work is VERY good!

Will be getting a full ramhorn manifold done from him for my turbo. Should be a great test of his skill.

I got my OHC FFE and K&N Conicals installed from them a year back and till date I have had no issues with them. Was referred to him by Viper.

Their USP is the custom work and speed at which they get it done. Afzal is a great guy and extremely co-operative and patient. He would listen to what you want and then makes sure you get it.
I was looking for louder humming exhaust note but did not get it to the decible level I wanted with the initially installed single end can. The next day he willingly changed it with a double can with the setup exactly as I had wished for and that too with No Xtra cost. I left his garage impressed and Humming with satisfaction.

Would recommend him to anyone who would want to go for a FFE.

Got my intake manifold done for my ITBs. And a seperate 180 degree bends section for each throttle to face the front of the car.

The manifold was done perfectly since I was around to get tack welds done and only let the welder touch it when the placement was perfect (each runner and flange port was matched to 0.001 inch, so any movement on either side would cause turbulent flow). That came out very nice. The quality of the welds is top notch as well. Will be putting up pics of the same in my build thread in a couple of days after the finishing is done.

The 180 degree bends were done when I wasn't around (assumed that he could take care of something as simple as what I wanted). The alignment has come out badly. And I had asked for tack welds, the guy welded it completely. The welder is a happy-go-lucky fellow, sadly. Since the part is not critical in any way, I do not really care. And Afzal is a very nice guy to work with. I was short on funds since I had to buy a couple of things from Opera House and the guy didn't take a single Rupee from me. Told me he'd collect it some other time and wouldn't accept any cash. And I'd never met him before this work started.

If you're getting the work done directly through Afzal, please stick around atleast for the critical parts of the job. Or explain very clearly what you want from the welder before you leave. Down to the alignment, exact location and type of weld. Do not assume the welder and fitter to understand what you want unless it's laid out in very simple language and terms. I believe that is what Gogi has gone through above.

Will have another update when I get the ramhorn manifold welded by him.
