Building a custom motorboard

Hey guys,

Okay, I want to build a motorized skateboard - of sorts - and I need some help. I've got an old TVS Super 50cc engine, and I want to strap it onto a minimalist frame (i.e. a sturdy square steel extrusion, or something similar) and attach it onto a hub-less rear wheel. The front wheel is also going to be hub-less, as well as pivotable.

The idea comes from a brilliant invention called the Wheelman Bushpig , and so the first step to making my own device is to make a fairly decent copy of this one.

Now for this, I am looking for a set of chunky-but-small tyres. Like the off-road type, if the Tata Ace Mini-Truck decided to go off-road. They are about 14'', and a little fatter than the truck's wheels, and they need to have a block pattern on them. The block pattern is essential because the method of propulsion will be through a spindle pushing against the inflated wheel's block pattern.

Now, I have no clue where to look for such a tyre, so I was hoping someone might provide me with some insight as to where to start looking..

Also, if any of you have building ideas for this toy, I'd be glad to hear them..

Peace and shanti.

Hi, I like this Idea. one sugestiom
Have you seen the Luna moped ? the old ones? It has something for you .
Luna specially the TFR , it has all the engine ,transmission & wheel packed in one neat chassis sub frame.
My sugestion
1) get a Luna TFR
2) scrap the Upper chassis
3) fit a 10" scooter disc ( lambretta, chetak ,kinetic honda) on the rear brake drum (remove the spokes & rim )
4) Fitting a front wheel to the sub chassis
Option 2
get a gearless scooter engine ( bajaj sunny, scooty, kinetic honda etc.) ,the advantage is you will be getting engine ,transmission, rear wheel in One Pack. You can make a small frame to attach engine & front wheel.
Best of luck ,Sudarshan

Hey Sudarshan,

thanks for your suggestions.. the Super 50cc engine is similar, except that it has a slithly angled mounting bracket attached to it. Otherwise, it's pretty compact within itself. I was wwondering what you meant by Option 2..
Do you mean a hub-center engine, like the one's on the electric scooter? I need somewhere to put my feet, and that somewhere has to be roughly where the center of the wheel is, to maintain an even balance and center of gravity..
