Re: 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250R - My First Sportsbike.

Aditya - Sorry for hijacking your thread a bit.

I got no clue what some of my friends here here at GrZ Customz (the Custom Bike Dept. of the Indian Freestyle Stunt Team, GhostRyderZ who accompanied Chris Pfeiffer in his Indian Tour and Officials Host Team of Pulsar MTv Stuntmania) were smokin' off late but they were too bored with the Green and Black 250Rs, they decided to get sprayin'. What you people think?

Re: 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250R - My First Sportsbike.

Aditya, Brocklock n Maibaa, congrats (although i'm a year off) but seems u guys r njoying the baby ninja to the hilt, my question is now that u've owned it for quite some time wots the feedback, the owning experience as well as the maintenance. wot i could gather is that this is a bike which one can use for daily going-to-the-office run and a crazy ride on the weekend and of course, VFM to the last rupee. i am contemplating the buy, your response would be appreciated

To answer your query, i've had the ninja for over 14 months now and almost 14000 kms clocked on it and every time i ride (only on weekends) i still get goosebumps and butterflies in my tummy.

She still excites me and i still have a looooooong way to go with her. The track beckons but all in good time.

This is the best 250 available in the market today without doubt. Relatively easy to maintain and not overly heavy on the pocket (if you can avoid a fall or crash) and highly reliable. On the regular maintenance part, here is a break-up:

1. First service - Rs. 1300/- incl. oil and oil filter change @ 1000 kms mark

2. Oil change with oil filter change at 3700 kms - Rs. ~1500/- (motul semi synth 5100 15W50 retails at around 550 bucks a liter. The ninja takes 1.6L if the oil filter is changes or 1.4L if the oil filter is retained.)

3. Front brake pads changed at 6k kms - Rs. 1400/- and second service @ Rs. 500/- IIRC

4. Oil change at 10,000 kms - no change in oil filter. charges for oil mentioned above. I change the oil every 5k kms and oil filter every 10k kms.

5. the bike is now at 13500 kms and due for 3rd service which i reckon will cost around INR 6k incl. oil, oil filter, etc.

I have only been to the service center for oil changes and servicing. No niggling issues, no glitches, no complaints whatsoever. This one's for keeps.

I think we reached at around 7am. The weather was awesome with thick fog and a slight drizzle so we stayed for a bit and then headed back.

The Kawi is actually looking bigger! Is it because of the rear tyre? What size is it?

The owner of the ninja has upgraded the rear tire from 130 /70/17 to 140/70/17. The CBR250 has a 140 rear as stock.

The ninja looks bigger due to the side fairing.

Re: 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250R - My First Sportsbike.

How is the bike responding with the 140 section rear? Did you manage to get a ride? With 14K on the odo, is it time for a tire replacement?

There were/are some supply issues with imported tires due to the ISI regulations so i bought my replacement rear tire, a pirelli sport demon 140/70/17 sometime back. It's tucked away at home since the stock rear tire still has tread left for another 1500 - 2000 kms or so.

I didn't ride his bike but i was told the handling around corners is much more composed. No squishy feeling like on the IRC's when taking a corner at good speeds. When we rode to coorg one of my buddies had a 140 section rear on his ninja and the bike was handling beautifully on the corners. I was pillion and holding on for dear life all through.

Also as per international ninja 250 forums you can stick to the stock size (110) on the front or upsize to 120 while running a 140 rear.

I guess i have some more pics in my PC at home. Will post them up soon.

The 140 section Sport Demon rear cost me 3800 bucks after discount. Got this from an importer/distributor who supplies tires to most dealers around Blore. Checked with Sai Iyengar and few others and this piece would have cost me around 4.5k at their stores.

She's going in for the 3rd service tomorrow and i'm switching to fully synthetic oil. I switched to Motul semi synthetic 5100 15w50 oil at ~4000 kms. I change the oil every 5k kms and oil filter every 10k kms. The manual suggests 12k kms for oil and oil filter change though.

Now i will be switching to Motul 100% synthetic ester 7100 20w50. 2 liters cost me 1200 bucks after discount. I did not see any reason to opt for the more expensive Motul Factory Line 300V Double Ester 100% Synthetic oil. This costs around 1k per liter. Maybe i'll opt for this once i take the bike to the track.

The 3rd service is estimated to cost around 6000 rupees. Will post the detailed break-up of costs later on tomorrow.
