Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

I also did a quick breakfast run to Mayura today with a bunch of very good riders. It was my first time with this group, though I had ridden with a couple of guys separtely and it was super ride and a set of super guys. Did not invite a lot of people initially thinking it would be a small group but in the end it turned out to be 9 bikes. Cant wait for next weekend now

Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Hey Folks,

I am planning for a ride this Saturday (28th) and I have 3 options listed down.

1.Madhugiri (after Tumkur) - 130.2 kms via NICE Ring Road and SH3 - from E-City
2.Krishnagiri Reservoir Dam - 81.9 kms via NH7 – from E-City
3.Thally (TN. Also called Little England) via Chandapura – Anekal-Ulimaranapalli-Kottamadagu-Thalli. (55.7 Kms from E-City).

All distances are one way and calculated from E-City. If anyone has other routes, do let me know. My plan's to leave early Saturday morning at 5 - 5: 30 AM and be back at Bangalore for lunch.

P.S: Sorry this is not a Sunday ride as my Sunday's are strictly for the Fam (or else my little one and the wifey would kill me).

Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

I would suggest you drop Madhugiri for the time being as the roads after Tumkur are under repair in patches.

Solo 208 kms round trip on Sunday morning to Avalabetta or Avalakonda. Its like the Nandi hills without the crowd. Is famous for its temple, mythological significance as Kamdhenu the cow which came to earth when the ocean was churned is believed to have landed here leaving a hoof mark. There is a forest department guest house as well & the road practically ends there. The temple is atop a flight of steps made of rock & for the highest point, you have to climb further. On the top, there was not a single soul nor the slightest sound..only the wind & vast views of the surrounding plains & hills. It was a surreal experience. By looking at the background of the pics I posted, you can imagine the elevation of this place. Great ride !

Had been to the same spot last month on a solo Sunday ride.

I got lost on the way many times and gave up and was planning to ride back to Bangalore via Gauribidanur when I passed by the entrance to the hill

Visited the hilltop and ended up in Chikballapur town and headed back on the NH.
Heading there, I went upto a town much after Chikballapur and turned left, which was a round route.

Thanks killjoy! Krishnagiri dam is my best bet I think. Never been there before and the distance is reasonable enough so it gives me sufficient time to be back home by noon. Anyone interested in giving me company on this ride please do let me know? My plan's to leave as early as possible and return back to Bangalore by 11 AM or latest by 12 Noon.

Hi Snehal, if I am not mistaken you have a HD in a run-in period. If so , better to stick to the Hyderabad highway. Its smooth & straight with less traffic. You will gel with your ride better & understand its behaviour. Relatively easy on this road to maintain any chosen rpm limit. Once you get comfortable with the characteristics of your ride & also get out of the run in period, you can explore twists & uphills etc. Happy riding!

Thanks shaikhmimran! I would have loved to go on the Hyderabad Highway, but I dread riding back in the afternoon from Mekhri circle all the way to Madivala. The traffic on this stretch is maddening to say the least. Will really not enjoy riding my bike in this kind of traffic. The reason I chose the Krishnagiri route is because I stay in E-City and for me to reach Krishnagiri will just be one straight road. The only problem area I see is the traffic at Hosur, but that is only until I have crossed the check post. I have traveled on this stretch several times by car and am familiar with the traffic conditions and the road, so I will feel sort of at home riding on this stretch.
The running in period on the Street 750 is only 80 kms and I completed that on my ride last week. I can now take the bike up to 120 kmph as per what the owners manual and the service fellow at the HD SC informed me.
As I get more familiar with the handling of my bike, will venture out to newer destinations and roads.

Slightly offtopic but BHPian schakravarthy and myself set off from Mysore this morning for a sunday morning ride to Talakad. We had awesome fun all along the way, roads were pretty much perfect but too straight for our liking hehe

A ride suggestion for Sunday morning bikers.

Did a solo ride yesterday to Madnapalle in AP and returned via Palamner and found a lovely biking road in the process. It maybe a bit far out for a morning ride.

The route is Hosakote-Madnapalle-Palamner-Kolar-Hosakote.

From Hoskote upto Chintamani bypass, is a almost a straight well paved single lane road. I was holding the throttle at the same position for a good 20 minutes. After Chintamani the well paved road ends, but still in good condition upto Madnapalle. This stretch has lots of speed breakers due to tiny villages. From Madnapalle, right goes to Palamner which is around 65 Kms and the last 30 Kms is heaven. Well paved roads and tree lined all the way with some nice banked curves.

Once Palamner is reached, it's the old Madras highway back to Bangalore. Just around 20 Kms of single lane road and the expressway starts.
Altogether around 330 Kms or more from my place near Bangalore East railway.
Decent eateries are available only in the Palamner to Kolar stretch.

Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Thanks Tharian, definitely a must try for me.

We also did a short breakfast ride to Kolar and back. Hit rain in a couple of places but was a superb ride getting back. The traffic was also sparse and was a nice ride due to that.
