A good thing for sure because the roads are not well designed at all. It is very easy to fly off the hill and when I went last Saturday, I could see metal scrape marks at multiple points on the ghats.

When did the ban come into effect?

Actually, I’d say that the roads were well designed to make sure we can keep the momentum going and it was smooth and flowing.

Unless someone is trying to ride badly, they’re likey to not face any problems.

what the problem is though, is inexperienced riders thinking the roads are their personal motoGP tracks.

Would you be OK riding a longer distance? I was thinking of doing a round trip of 400-500 kms, like Chikmagalur and back for example.

I'll be messaging you my cell number so that I can be part of the group. I'm not 100% sure about the Sun though and also, I ride xpulse these days so not very sure if I can keep up with REH450s on Hassan road. However, would surely love to join short rides and trails whenever I can.

Heading to Subbanna hotel, Melukote for breakfast and then onto Mavanuru Malleshwara temple near Hasan.

Meet up time: 0620 hrs

I will be on my Kaza Brown H450, my friend on his Hanle Black H450.

We will leave from the above location at 0630 sharp.

Short ride to see the Butea monosperma a.k.a. flame of the forest around Bangalore

Having spent and extremely lazy Saturday, made a last minute plan to ride on last Sunday. I typically ride out on the Old Madras highway and then take the side roads from there.

Got on the road around 0530. At Hoskote, turned towards Chintamani. The road till Hoskote-Dabaspet expressway is not great. Lots of truck traffic to get on the bypass.

First stop at Chintamani bypass for tea

I was in two minds whether to head up to Madanpalle and then Palmaner-Kolar-Bangalore or turn towards Bagepalli and then Devanhalli-Bangalore. On a whim turned towards Bagepalli.
The Chintamani-Bagepalli stretch is mostly barren with fields on both sides. Road is undivided and well tarred.
There were a few clouds ensuring the heat does not rise.
Stopped a little beyond Chintamani for a water and peanut chikki break which I had in my bag.

Had a mini picnic next to a cabbage field.

Further down the road, the palash trees started showing up. Some were sparsely blooming and few were completely in bloom. Well worth the ride.
Stopped at another field, just under a fully blooming tree.

Hung around just enjoying the morning till it started getting hot.

Bought up google maps to search for a quicker way to NH44. Found a left turn at Sadali. The road till NH44 was bad, but save me around 50Km.

Another chota break around a marigold field and then onto NH44.

Stopped at Gowda Military Hotel near Devanhalli. Very limited options - basically chicken/mutton biryani, Mutton chops and idli. Not sure if this is the effect of rising popularity. Last I visited few years back, they had much more options.
Still food was good. Packed some biryani for home.

Later took the expressway to Hoskote and was home before 1200.

Hi All - how do you figure out which highways are banned for bikes while determining routes? I’m guessing Google would always pick an expressway or does it factor this into the route if one selects the bike option?

It does factor it in. Example the Bengaluru-Mysuru and the Bombay-Pune expressway is not considered for bikes and it does take you through the towns on the old highway.
