Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Want to go on a road trip tomorrow (in car) in the radius of 60-70 kms (can be extended to 100 if worth it).

Any recommendations?

Note: No off-roading.

Bro - Nandi hills. But remember to get back home early, there is VIP movement in the city after 12pm so traffic can get painful

Writing here as I think its more of a biker circuit. Anyone here driven Anchetty - Kanakpura recently. Might end up driving there in my car tomorrow. Any updates or things to watch out for will be much appreciated!

The last time I was on that route, I had found that the road conditions had been slowly deteriorating from what it was last year. Just keep an eye out for that but you should be fine since you are in a car.

I rode that route two months back and went upto Denkanikottai and Panchapalli dam. Roads upto Kanakapura was under construction and felt like extension of city, after that roads were good.

Don't know what updates in the last two months.

The route taken to this place was Yeshwanthpur - Nelamangala - CR patna - Arakalgug - Sri Ramdevra Katte - Mavinakere - Shettyhalli - Hassan - Nelamangala - Yeshwanthpur.

Although you can take, the regular 4 lane till Hassan and turn left for Shettyhalli, we have been using this route for the sheer ppleasure of dreiving it offers. Small village roads with good twisties, and more stops in between to enjoy. And a quick blast back through the 4 lane BLR-Hassan road.

Thanks. Not the right thread, but could you post your feedback on the new one and maybe how it betters or is worse than the old one?

Re: Bangalore - Sunday Morning Short Rides

An aimless ride to remember

How a plan to ride to Jog falls soon turned out to be an aimless ride, without cutting corners, Ahh, its a ride to remember.

Since it was a holiday on Nov 1st here at Bengaluru for Karnataka Rajyotsava I was planning to do a long ride of 500+ kms but destination was undecided. Just in time, Vijay (BHPian mashblue) sent out a message in WA group on the previous day calling out for a ride to Jog falls on Nov 1.

As I had not made any plan to myself and more importantly I had not ridden with Team BHP gang, I decided to ride along with Vijay. By the end of previous day, four people were ready to ride, Vijay (BHPian mashblue), Neil (BHPian neil.jericho), Suddep (BHPian man_of_steel) and myself.

Now coming to the bikes it was all different from one another ranging from 373 cc to 650 cc bikes each having its own character & space. A Duke 390 (Sudeep), Continental GT (Neil), CBR 650F (Vijay) & my Dominar.

I had not met any of them prior to this ride and we decided to meet at the Nelamangala cross below the flyover at 5.30 AM. I was under the assumption that we would be taking the standard route reach Jog, via Tumakur road NH4. But Vijay said we can take a more scenic route via Sakleshpur, I thought, good enough we will get to do few corners as well. Who knew at that point each road we approach will be a corner .

We met exactly at the scheduled timing and after brief introduction of mine we set out at 5.45 AM. On the way we had our breakfast at A2B just before Hassan.

Soon after we started after breakfast, within no time the ride turned into an aimless ride. While filling the tanks it was decided we will not ride to Jog falls but instead we can do a charmadi ghat. Can you smell the corners coming now?

Traffic was a bit more towards Sakleshpur and road was decent as we could see new patches have been made over the broken roads but still there are few killer craters which one must watch for while riding.

Once at Sakleshpur, we took a deviation towards Hanbal and roads were pretty good and in between somewhere Vijay spotted a small road to go in for some awesome captures with a small stream of water flowing.

Continued from there, we continuously encountered all sorts of corners, short, long, deep, what not. To cut long story short, starting from Sakleshpur, riding to Charmadi peak and riding back some distance on charmadi to join Chikamagalur road and almost till reaching Chikamagalur we were mostly riding corners itself. At one point of time we were tired of taking corners and leaning left & ride which had become so mechanical and all could be seen stretching our hands, legs while riding.

Ride on the charmadi was spectacular and added to it the roads were quite good except for some small broken patches in between and I really enjoyed doing the corners and that too was a unplanned one.

After Charmadi, while on the way to Chikamagalur we stopped at Bhadra Stop Coffee Shop for a quick coffee & bread omelette.

During the stop overs, we obviously kept speaking about all things bikes & rides, Vijay, Neil & Sudeep were rejoicing the earlier rides of Team BHP gang which was nice to hear.

Lunch was at Chikamagalur and the return journey through Hassan was uneventful, also traffic was not much given it was a week day.

The ride was of ~660+ kms, but it felt like we did more than that as we had spent more time on taking on the corners.

Can you count how many times I have used word corner in the above write up?

All in all, it was a very good ride without worrying on reaching a destination, and just ride to your hearts content, when road becomes your destination. Looking forward to riding along again. Thanks to Vijay for leading us on this ride.

KK

Its time for some nice pics, except one all others are captured by Vijay, Neil & Sudeep, PC to respective owners.
