Re: The Royal Enfield 500 Classic thread!

I have not seen a picture of a CL500 chrome Black on the road yet or photos being posted. Is it not as eye catchy like the maroon?

I think Randhawa posted one long back, search the thread to find it. I have seen one C5 fitted with Thunderbird seats @ RE service station Thiruvanmayur, looks awful. Doesn't gel with the C5 at all.

Now I am happy to have a true Classic 500.

@Akshay-I think they mean the cannon sticker on the top of the tank and RE sticker on the rear mudguard just below the rear seat.

The "choke lever" is used for cold starts when the temperature is down around 7 degrees C (45 degrees F) or colder.

Beautiful motorcycle! I know your going to love it.
Happy riding.

Hey guys just started my 58 kms old cl500
The ambient temperature is less than 10 degrees as of now.
As I started her she was idling with tik tik sound I let her idle for 30 seconds then slightly opened the throttle and there was a TUK sound everytime I opened the throttle, it happened thrice, fearing the worst I turned her off.
What's this sound, I'm worried.

Re: The Royal Enfield 500 Classic thread!

Is it a slightly louder version of the tik tik sound experienced when idling?

What's this sound, I'm worried.

It does happen in cold and sometimes more often on a new bike, it will gradually fade away. It's due to the auto de-comp and hydraulic tappet. Just let it idle for couple of minutes and it will go away. I know the noise at first is scary, it sounds like trigger of a gun with a empty shell. Usually known as sticky de-com. But nothing to worry as this is not an issue and part of your bulls personality.

With the loud tuk you will get the feeling of bike about to stall when given sudden acceleration. Swing down the kick with ign off (before you start)to get the oil circulated throughout the crank bearings and hydraulic tappets. It's good practice to do this as it keeps the bearings healthy and gives you a better start up. Over night the oil gets drained a bit from the tappets and from the oil pump. It takes around 5-6 kicks at max to get the oil to the top and rest.

Let it idle for couple of minutes before you blip the throttle.

Re: The Royal Enfield 500 Classic thread!

Hey Bulleteers! This question is specific to Chennai folks - what's the average waiting period for C350 and C500 here in Chennai? Any different than other cities?

The brand store in Besant Nagar said about 8 to 10 months for both the models. This is in August 2011, not sure how it is now.

Thanks for the info. So the waiting period is same as elsewhere, I though it was lesser here.

Any other Chennai bhpians who can share their inputs please?

Re: The Royal Enfield 500 Classic thread!

To all CL500 DS or Chrome owners as well as ALL GURUS
Despite being promised a waiting period of 3 months, my DS500 ( lionheart)
was delivered in 28 days only.
Though a happy customer I do have some serious concerns

1. @Randhawa ::: The problem with the centre stand came to my bike last week. The extra sheet of metal that u mentioned in one of your post is absent.
So if this feature was added on new bikes then, is my bike an assemble of old chasis ?

2. The headlight casket is misaligned to front wheels from day one. the handlebar and head casket is tilted slightly left when going straight.
Will try to sort this in first service

3. The average mileage I received during running in is 18 km per litre. Is it okay ??? odo is 370 km.

4. The plastic pads on tank are not in symmetry. one pasted 2 inch higher than other. Seems to be awkward whenever it catches attention.
Can something be done about it.

5. The manual says first service on 500 KM OR FIRST MONTH WHICHEVER IS EARLIER. mine is one month and 370 odo. Should i go for first service or complete 500 km first..??

No any major problem till now though. Pick up is smooth and the thump has started becoming loud and bassy with every passing kilometer.

You can share the chassis number wherein one can decode the chassis manufacturing month
