Re: Royal Enfield 500 Classic 4100 km Ownership Review

After booking and cancelling twice, I think it's time I got serious about a Classic 500. I think RE is addressing a lot of issues related to Classic 500. And the newer lot as Randhawa mentioned is mostly trouble free. I just came back from a trip to Ladakh with the realisation that a 500 cc is a must while riding up the mountains. Now, how exactly do you convert a Classic 500 into a cruiser -- the main concern is riding comfort

This concern has also been addressed by RE.......if you can wait a while the TB 500 is coming soon. And it would be no where near the old model, but a refereshingly new design....a true blue cruiser and touring bike !!

Insider info or old news? You got clues to possible changes to frame -riding posture etc. Wish it ain't be just re-styling.

NO change of frame since they are using the same engine, doing duties on the C5. But there will be radical change in the looks department, and ofcourse the posture will remain unchanged, as its time tested

Re: Royal Enfield 500 Classic 4100 km Ownership Review

OMG !!! I have booked a TBTS in Jun - expected date of delivery Jan 2012.

Is there a confirmed date for the launch of the new TB?
I might want to wait then.

The bike is still in testing phase. RE wants to be absolutely sure that it has no niggles (but of course they can only hope that way, an RE without niggles is not a real RE

No definite dates Sir....!!

I have always loved the thump but, have never been of the thump holder i.e. the entire body. Your review has just further confirmed my doubts. Thanks.

Re: Royal Enfield 500 Classic 4100 km Ownership Review

Guys, Classic Chrome and Desert Storm versions have been launched. The Classic Chrome's been priced Rs. 10,000 more than the regular Classic 500 and the Desert Storm's been priced Rs. 3000 more than the regular Classic 500. Overdrive says that there have been changes made to the chassis with it now getting a longer swing arm and the front forks now have a straight connection to the axle rather then the offset connection as before.

Hope this improves the stability of the bike now and stops it from fishtailing at high speeds.

Not that I own one yet, but after the weekend experiential ride on the C500 I have been wanting to ask this question - Did any of you experience soreness / mild pain in the inner thigh muscle which rests on the rubber pads on the fuel tank while riding and on the boxes below the rider seat while stationary / waiting in traffic signal?

Seems like this might get worse in the long run!

Re: Royal Enfield 500 Classic 4100 km Ownership Review

UPDATE: Classic Chrome and Desert Storm Bookings now OPEN

All due respects to @Randhawa and @Freewheelin_KD for breaking the news first.

Now for some quick specs on the difference between Classic Chrome & Classic 500

- The engine remains the same
- There are some mods done to the chasis and swing arm as mentioned earlier by Freewheeling_KD
- The Front Tyre would be retained back to the initial launch of C500 with 90/90 - 18" rims
- The Rear Tyre would be that of the export model specification of 110/80 - 18" rims
- The length and height of the vehicle reduces by 30mm when compared to the current C500 (possible could be coz of the chassis mod and 18" rim)
- The last visual difference would be the color scheme which will be available in two variants, namely Royal Black Chrome combo and Royal Maroon Chrome combo.

Most importantly, checked with the dealers in Bangalore and the same will be available within 5 months of waiting period!!!

Have no idea about how comfortable are Vardenchi's but some of theirs are the closest worth being called cruisers. No big deal if you opt for TB trim though

Refer screen capture from RE site. No changes to tyre sizes

The Front tyre is 90/90 - 19" for domestic
Rear tyre is 120/80 - 18" for domestic

Re: Royal Enfield 500 Classic 4100 km Ownership Review

Just clearing out some confusion with the tyre size of chrome and desert.

For some weird reason booth the chrome versions have same spec tyres as the first generation C5

Current C5 and Desert colour 90/90-19 Front 120/80-18 Rear

Chrome black/maroon 90/90-18 Front 110/80-18 Rear

I have not checked them out personally and their specs could change later.
