Re: The "Used Bike Price Thread"

Need some urgent advice on a bike available for sale. Details:

Hero Impulse, 2014 model

The bike has basically been thrashed by the owner. Both front and rear tires need replacement. In the owner's own words, he "rides really really fast" and loves "stunting"

Has been in a "minor" crash and broke the front headlight. The bike is not running very well and would (again in the owner's own words) need a piston ring replacement

I was able to haggle and bring the asking price down to around 17k. I am sure I will be able to knock off a couple of thousand more and close the deal for 15k

Questions:

* How expensive are the engine internals on the impulse?
* What all besides the info provided by the owner should I be checking for? I will be checking things like suspension, any cracks or bends on the frame, condition of the disc and basic electricals. What else?
* Overall opinion - Try it out or leave it?

The way I see it:

* Cost of the Bike - 15K
* Registration - 3K (Its an out of state bike)
* Get a 180 rebore kit with an FFE done at around 18K
* New tires - 3.5K
* Total - Around 40K

Or

Keep it stock with factory parts. If in case its just piston rings, piston itself and the crank; what should be the expected cost + labor?

Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

PS - don't want to do the Karizma engine mod. Havent heard the best feedback

What should be a fair price for a 2011 CBR 250R Std which has run only about 7500 kms and is fairly well maintained by the owner. I took it for a small spin and all seemed to be good and genuine at face value. Still running on Stock ContiGo tyres.

The seller is asking for 85k and not willing to budge any further. What should be the fair price to quote as a buyer?

Re: The "Used Bike Price Thread"

I recently bought a 2004 RE Bullet Electra 4s for a little over 1L.
A bit of a premium yes, but it had been recently completely serviced and was quite well maintained in complete stock condition (I knew the previous owner). I was assured there wouldn't be any issues, and there haven't been any since.

Asking price is too much for the age & mileage.

What possibly could be this?

Anything suspicious?
Many possibilities, couldn't conclude unless the cover is opened.
- Just a leaking gasket, instead of changing the gasket applied the sealant alone
- Replaced Valves / rocker, etc

Re: The "Used Bike Price Thread"

I am looking to sell my 4-year-old KTM 200, done about 39K km. Well maintained and regularly serviced, new tyres and battery, never abused, no accidents. Only issue is with the coolant temperature sensor, shows high-temperature, even if it cool. During the last service the guys at the service center said its a grounding fault, tried to rectify it, but said the wiring will have to be replaced. They added that its no big deal and it can go on without any issues.

I think I should get around 1 lakh, what is your opinion?

Considering that it is four years old and has an electrical issue, you may get a little less than that if someone discovers it. But if the buyer is unsuspecting, you might get close to 1L.

I am definitely going to disclose it

Moreover, it is a clear issue that crops up in a few kms of the ride.

In Chennai, similar aged bikes are being sold for around 80k, Considering the B'lore market add another 10k.

Re: The "Used Bike Price Thread"

I am planning on getting myself a 150+ cc used bike for less than 20k in the near future. I'm seeing a few Pulsars and Unicorns on OLX & Quikr, 2005 - 2007 vintage. I'm planning on using this bike for around 12 - 18 months and get myself a bigger motorcycle.

I'm aware that a 10 - 12 year old motorcycle will come with its fair share of 'baggage'. However, I've never owned a motorcycle before, so I'm not sure what all to expect and how much it might set my wallet back by, to keep it in good running condition.

Saw these 2 on OLX:
Example 1: 2005 Unicorn with 11,000 km on the odo (highly suspicious, I know!) - listed for 14.5k
Example 2: 2007 Pulsar 150 with 38,000 km on the odo - listed for 18k

If I get either of these, what ballpark figure am I looking at, to bring them to good, smooth running condition?
Looking for opinions from the forum before starting scouting seriously!

Decent price, ONLY if it is well maintained and mechanically sound.

Over priced IMO. Similar aged Pulsars are being sold around 12k only.

Depends on the condition of bike you are about to buy. Going by my past experience you may need to spend another 5~8k (Clutch, Brakes, Sprockets, Tires, Battery) to bring them back to (expected) life

Picked up a 2009 Pulsar 180 finally - single owner, for 17,900/-
The dealer/seller claimed it's 40,000+ km run, but the odo shows 735 km! Dunno if it is clocked back or new console was fitted recently. She runs and shifts smooth, tyres have fair share of life left in them. Battery is not up to the mark, maybe unused for a while. Self starter starts working after riding 5-6 km.

I'm planning to give her for a full service at Bajaj A$S. I'm gonna ask for an oil change. What else should I be telling the SA to check/change? Also, I need a better headlamp set up. What all should be done to upgrade to a 55W bulb? As I had mentioned in my previous post, this is the first motorcycle that I've owned and am not very well versed with motorcycle servicing.

Thanks in advance!

Check and replace the below items (if needed)
- Air Filter
- Brake pads and shoes
- Brake fluid top-up / bleed
- Sprocket kit

I remember Avenger 180's coil is direct fit on Pulsar and capable of supporting 55w setup, do check before giving a try.
