It was TRICS as far as I can remember. The engine used to overheat and lots of complaints came along. They had also launched the Chetak 4 Stroke then, which may have used the same engine. None of these 150 cc two strokes could survive in the market.

Thanks Ashok for revealing the trick about the TRICS.
I am to correct myself here- My post should read " None of these 150 cc four strokes (from Bajaj) could survive in the market".
Even now Bajaj launches a new 4 stroke scooter every other year. the name changes from Saffire to Wave ( I may be corrected) to Kristal and so on but these don't sell!

RD350 a "Flop"

Some of our fellow bhpians are branding Yamaha RD350 as a "flopped" one. On what basis their judgment came, I don't know. This particular model was one of the best and successful models ever launched by Yamaha worldwide. Among the bikers, its popularity is very very high even today. In terms of technology, power, and performance, this is one of the best bike ever came to Indian market.

But, RD350 was not meant for the mass. So, judging a bike “flop” or “success” by mere no of pieces sold is not right. You can never compare a Maruti 800 and a Maruti Zen – they are from different segments meant for different class of motorists.

Yamaha simply stopped RD350 model due to 2-stroke factor – so was the case of RX100 (are you going to brand it a "flop" oneday?)

If you don't agree ... let's do a voting...

If the RD350 was a flop, then the Ferraris & Lambhorginis are also equally flops.

Thats is funny. RD350 flopped ? I know it is in 'more' demand now, but it certainly did not flop 'then'.

TVS SPECTRA... Big flop Scooter and TVS Invested a lot for marketing as well as for R&D.It was really good looking Scooter but may be due to it was Geared one.
TVS Shaoline:Not flop Exactly but average sales:Reasons:Really don't know was very good bike may be very simlilar looking to Samurai.

Bajaj:Really dont remember the name of the Bike was just launch after success of Caliber.

Hero Honda:They sell everything they launch(Like Maruti).

Yamaha:
After RX 100 Only RXZ was bit hit ow all flop models except YBX and some popularity for Enticer.

You mean Prowler from Bajaj?

HH Achiever was/is a flop.

As for the RD350 Debate, I am not really sure but whats the criteria for flop?

As per me any bike is flop if people didnt buy it in expected numbers irrespective of its market performance world over or its technical Superiority.

BMW F 650 was a brilliant bike yet it was a flop.

AFAIK RD 350 flopped in its later years as there were too many accidents & newer bikes were cheaper & more fuel efficient.

remember the mosquito like Suvega?
and the rather sexy looking Peugeot Design Sportif with the alloy wheels and the Enfield Zundapp Explorer and its cousin the SilverPlus moped with a fat petrol tank?
and the Enfield Fury and the truly horrible baby bullet 200 cc
what about the Luna? or was that a hot seller in those dark protectionist economy days?
remember also that Gujarat Fertilizer Corporation manufactured Scooter - forgot its name.
and the early Kapil Dev endorsed NISUKI bike - 1982-1983 era.
man - those vehicles have simply VANISHED in the last 15 years - last time I looked i didnt see any
