Upgrading the Headlight Bulb on a motorcycle

Just checked with my HH A**. They confirmed that Hunk and ZMA electricals are different. However, they were cooperative enough to say that I can go ahead and purchase a new higher wattage bulb which they would happily fit in my bike.

Edit: Can someone please advise if this bulb can fit on my bike?

Just Bumping this thread to bring it up the chart. Can someone please assist me with my query? Hunk's battery is a 12V one. How much can it sustain? and Which light should I use from the link given above?

Hi Guys ,

I have a KB100 1989 model and have been running a yezdi headlamp on the same for a few years. I dont have any speedometerts etc thus a bare low handle with a big lamp in front but now I am restoring the bike and thus would like to figure out the best looking lamp on it? Any suggestions? Also anyone can help me find a metal badge of kawasaki for my tank?

I think the amps are more important than the voltage for this equation.
More amps means your battery can sustain the voltage for a longer period of time.
A rough analogy would be.
AMPS is like the bucket that holds the current.
Volts is the amount of current that flows out of it.

@ amtak, Hunk runs 35W Ac afaik; just putting a 60/55w might not give full brightness, so Wire up h/l to run from battery.

let me add a bit., Ampere-hour is like the bucket that holds the current., Volts is the size of take out tap., Amps is the amount of current that flows out of it.

@bblost, could you pls say the base type (hs1, h4 etc) & make, model of your 45/40 lamp? i couldn't locate one hence got a 60/55 for electra.

The shape matches the left most one in the bottom pic.

But I don't know the base type.

Battery : 12V -7 Ah
Head Light : 12V – 35 / 35 W = Halogen Bulb (Mulit Reflector Type)
Tail Lamp : 12 V – 5W
Stop Lamp : 12V – 21W
Turn Signal Lamp : 12 V – 10W x 4 nos, Clear Lense, Multi reflector Type.

Here's is something that I found on the net. Can someone tell me what would be the best fit now? and the appx. price?

I have finally upgraded to 65/55 today. Had been to the service center to put it directly on battery but today being the Valentine's day, all the romeos had given their bikes for servicing and repairs for the big evening. didn't have the patience to wait for my number to come :(

Edit: I was looking for Philips or Bosch, but got Halonix. okay?

Finally changed it to run on DC rather than AC. So far I am happy with the result. Will test it thoroughly tomorrow during my highway run.

Hey Guys.

I have a 08' Yam FZ.

Changed the stock bulb and got a Halonix 35/35 HS1 bulp fixed.

Light is not all that great and its been quite sometime ive been thinking of replacing it.

Thought abt getting a HID kit but a few people i know say the temperature of the HID will damage the reflector in the headlight assembly.

Just wanted to know if this is indeed true.

I would also like to know of a few decent bulbs which can opt for too.

Two things comes to my mind.
1. If the reflector is old, change it.
2. Try Phillips HS1 you will get at Honda Spares.

I have tried the above on my unicorn. It was slightly dull, changed to Halonix, it did not result good.

Then changed the reflector and bought new Phillips HS1 (35/35w)

It made a huge difference.

The other mods for better illumination is to do coil winding and having higher watts bulb on. However, I would not prefer to have something like coil winding since the quality of work might not be any guarantee.

The stock bulb is a Philips 35/35w HS1.

Dont need to get a new one in that case.

But i find it inaddequate.

A few bikers suggested Osram Night breakers.

Anyones got any views abt it?

Osram Nightbreak comes with 60/55w, in that case you will need to go for coil winding to support.

If you know someone who does a quality coil winding job, go for it!

After coil winding job done, in 2.5-3.0k RPM, you will have good full brightness.

It would definitely make a difference.

Seniors, you might want to share your views on this?

Id also want to know how good HIDs with projector assemblies are on the long run.

I heard abt a guy named Rajthilak in Chennai who makes HIDs with projectors from scratch.

Anyones got one and is it worth the money and the effort?
