I can second both the above statements from experience.
I had to travel overseas for an year and had to leave my Classic 350 stored for an year. As I was in a hurry, the only long term storage precautions I took were disconnecting the battery.

On my return, just a regular service and oil change, coupled with a full charge for the old battery got everything working perfectly.

@Akhileshmdp I hope you had not told the mechanics beforehand that your bike was stored for months, as some of the unscrupulous ones, pounce like hyenas and try to replace every other part they can think off, required or not !

Guys - are there options available to move the footpegs up and slightly towards the back? I cant figure out how to move the gear and brake controls back along with the pegs

Anybody who may have done this, please advise with the approximate cost as well. Photos are always welcome

FYI - my ride is a 2004 AVL 350 Thunderbird

I was looking at this mod while I was thinking of transforming my 2004 AVL Tbird to a café racer. There is a kit readily available for this mod which comes with footpegs, gear and brake linkage connections complete with brake and gear foot levers as well. Although I have not done any mod to my 2004 AVL Tbird till date but have seen numerous people doing these mods while visiting my mech's garage. It is a bolt on and requires very little modification.

Thanks bud! Rang up Sans people immediately. Unfortunately, this kit would work for the classic, but not the older T-bird



Will probably have to look at some other jugaad at the fabricators. Pity, would have loved a simple plug n play solution

A small problem Im facing on my Classic 350. Was trying to DIY a Tail bag fitment, the bolt attached to the rear shocker & rear seat is not moving, its head has gone flat with constant push of the spanner. Now the bolt is on the inner side, how to remove this nut-bolt?

That is really strange mate as I saw older AVL Tbird's and Standard's getting fitted with this bolt on kit while modifying them to a Café Racer. I believe they must have stopped making that kit since the advent of RE UCE onslaught. Or maybe some other vendor sells it.

Here's a reference from one hell of a project done by Gordon and V12. They transformed their Machismo AVL to Café Racer. I believe both the AVL Machismo and AVL Tbird share the same set of foot pegs, gear and brake linkage in their stock form. So you can take the below mentioned threads as a reference to carry out your mods. Or better send a pm to Gordon or V12 and I am sure they would help you with their inputs.

Can you post some pics of the damaged bolt. I believe you will need two spanners to open the nut-bolt. One spanner to lock and hold from inside and the other spanner to open from outside. Post some pics for us to help.

Tried every possible trick but the bolt won't come loose. Actually its a bit difficult to lock the spanner on the back side as theres little space(rear mud guard stays come in the way). So what's happened is that the rear nut has lost edge, its almost round now after repeated tries with force.
Why this happened is because last time around while DIY fixing of rear seat, I tightened the bolt well over the required torque. Now this has happened with more than 2-3 nuts on the bike, 1st was the handlebar nut that went free, had to go in for over-sized replacement.
So I took the bike to local mechanic, he removed the rear mudguard for easy access. Still he was unable to open the nut, finally got it cut open. Replacement nut-bolt cost me around 20/-

So I had to recently replace the accelerator cable in my Electra 350, the throttle cable I replaced is not original, and the cable installed from the factory has ttwo prongs (kind of a Y cable) not sure of its purpose though, I replaced it with a single cable to the carb, I'm Wondering if this will have any impact, if yes, what could that be?

Would also Apple if any inputs are provided on why the original cable has two branches please?

This is something which intrigued me as well when I saw it first on a carb fed engine.
My guess is it is something to do with throttle position and pollution control/maximum efficiency.

I checked the service manual for the UCE and there was nothing specific to this.

Hoping someone can throw more light on its function.

I think the purpose of two cables is as follows.

They both are for throttle opening and closing.
One is type pull where in your turn of accelerator knob pulls the throttle increasing throttle response and another is to ensure when you revert the knob the throttle is decelerated/retarded by push.

I believe there is also a spring to do the same but this is done to reduce chances of throttle acceleration not behaving normally.

The second cable goes to something called the TPS Switch which is located under the seat.
This is what I learnt from the service manual, but I would want to know what is the functionality and purpose of the switch on a carb..

Exactly, the second part of the cable does not retract as mentioned in one of the posts, would like to know what that switch really does.

TPS is Throttle Positioning Sensor, Sorry I am not aware of its functionality in crab as carburetor is manual (fixed fuel/air mix). May be some one with more knowledge can throw some light.

The TPS plus the Crankshaft Position Sensor readings are used by the computer (ECU) to establish the correct amount of advance or retard the engines ignition needs at the moment to provide the best running condition.

At slow engine speeds,if the TPS tells the computer the throttle has been greatly opened, the computer (ECU) will retard the spark to prevent pinging (pinking).

If the throttle is opened fully at high engine speeds, the computer will leave the spark timing at full advance to provide full burning of the fuel.
