Awww fudge.

Please! Some confirmation.

@Akshay

I do believe that a pillion seat is available. I do not know how well it'd fit under tourer bags.

I also don't see any eye-holes that could be used to tie stuff on the bike. Perhaps a magnetic bag for the tank is the only option.

But then, a lot of these problems are faced with most bikes. Most of the things can be countered.

Until one drives it, it'd be impossible to comment on how it'd behave as a tourer.

Hi All,

I recently heard from the RE guys that the classic is expected to come in 2 engine options
1. Classic with 350 cc UCE Twinspark engine
2. Classic with 500 cc UCE EFI engine

Prices were still being debated by RE so currently cannot give a clear figure.

Ofcourse, it will be easier to kickstart atleast than the AVL500 since the UCE500 comes with an auto-decomp mechanism like most modern motorcycles in the market. The auto decomp is already present on the UCE350.

Cheers,

Jay

Apparently, three UCE500s had transmission issues during this year's Himalayan Odyssey. So, reliability still seems to be a bother. The same issue occured during the first batch of UCEs bound to the U.K. RE addressed it by recalling and replacing the third gear with a redesigned unit on all the UCEs. So, till the UCE500 hits the roads, the engine is still under the microscope. On, the dyno, the UCE500 is making 21RWHP which is 4HP more than the stock AVL500.

Cheers,

Jay

4HP is a lot , have they changed the entire transmission ? I doubt these stats...

Of course. The entire transmission of the UCE is different. The gearbox is integrated on the UCE as opposed to the pre-unit design on the AVLs and CIs. This obviously will reduce transmission losses to a large extent. That said, the top speed on the UCE500 isn't too different from the AVL500 as the primary reduction ratio on the gearbox isn't too different. The increased power translates into a stronger performance across the rev range.

About the veracity of my post, you may refer to these dyno pulls. 2009 Bullet G5 EFI Dyno Results
I hope this is convincing enough.

Cheers,

Jay

UCE coming in, AVL's Taken out

Guys,
take a look at RE official website, the AVL 500LB and 350cc are out of the website MOTORCYCLE listing, right now it is only showing TBTS, Electra and good ol' STD.
A new ERA if you ask me, Right move made by RE guys.

life must move on and things must evolve in order to survive and re has done just that. launch of the uce may alienate many hard core bullet enthusiasts but will bring in a lot more closer to the brand, which is essential for its future.

i rode the 500 efi when it had come for trials to bangalore, and i am impressed with its performance. its got loads of torque and a good rev range too. it is a bit low but was told that the height is part of the design philosophy for the classic range. and by the way, it comes with a split seat and the rear one can be easily removed using the bikes tool kit itself.

my predictions for the re lineup from mid 2010 onwards;

500 classic fi
350 classic
500 machismo
350 machismo
electra 350 uce
std 350 uce

the ci engine has to go by march 2010 becuase it cannot meet the bs2 norms for bikes that will come into place from 1st april onwards. so it sure will be a tearful goodbye to the old warhorse that has laster almost 60 years!!! am planning to pick up a new electra in a month or 2 for keeps sake.

by the way, its confirmed that the launch of the classic is on the 4th of nov and the models will be on display in bangalore showrooms from that day. called hsr motors and confirmed the launch, "un-officially" of course.

Though the UCE500 is the right move for RE, I'm a little deflated to see the AVLs go. My apprehensions primarily center around the availability of spares, especially for the LB500. The situation is pathetic to say the least. I have already started hoarding spares for my LB500. So, warning bells to all the LB500 owners. Stock up on critical spares before your steed gets grounded for the want of spares.

Cheers,

Jay

Whoa!! Stopping a model doesn't mean the spares stop too. Spares should be made available for another 5 years atleast.

True. But seeing a friend run around for a new piston for his Lightning 535, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to stock up on a brand-new cylinder head and piston kit for my CI 500. At least I would have no problem (say) ten years down the line when my Bullet would undoubtedly need an engine makeover. Or do these things degrade over time?

What all should we hoard now ? I also saw today that the 500 is out of the website.

Hey Mileeater - I hope that is the case, as the picture uplaoded by Randhawa suggests something else.

The Classic 350 seems to have the Carb instead of EFI Technology. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attach...7102009237.jpg

Afaik the 350 is a carb version.

Only the 500 comes with the EFI.

Sad, right?

:(

@Jay

Thanks a lot! That clarifies a lot. Could you please explain what sort of issues were faced during the Himalayan odyssey?
