Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki Ax100

Thanks to late Mr Dhabhar for his thread on the Ind-Suzuki. I too have very pleasant experiences of my ownership of a 1986 AX 100. It was a game changer and was the first 100 cc Indo - Jap bike to be launched.

This write-up in DeRivas and Ives today by Yours Truly will be an interesting read for AX 100 fans for revival of their memories.

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki Ax100

I’m reviving my Dad’s 1986 Ind Suzuki AX100. Need help in procuring some parts, can anyone please help?
Attaching some photos of the restoration process. Someday I’ll handover this bike to my son as my dad handed over to me.

Congratulations! Do post some pictures of the beauty!
Would advise you to join the various Suzuki 2 stroke owners groups on Facebook. Body panels come up there for sale frequently. I myself bought a full set (tank+panels) recently from someone on one of those groups for Rs. 3000+shipping (unused old stock).

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki Ax100

Thank you Boniver, would you be able to share any direct contacts for these parts?

I do see some parts available on Ebay and some sites in China (where the AX100) was also sold but shipping is damn expensive.

Will post some pictures soon.

Damn! How did I miss this. I have been through this page multiple times since last month and never once did I realize that this page was written by you. A very informative page Sir and this was the first page that showed up on my search result. Also, a very big thanks to late Dhabhar Sir for starting this thread - along with your page, I have been going through his post multiple times.

I have been reading and watching a lot of videos of the AX100 since a month now and I do have a lot of questions. And I am glad you are here , since you could share some more knowledge and probably some old print advertisements.

So here goes my findings from what I have gathered on the Internet and my knowledge through the years.

The first batch of Suzuki AX100's were brought into the country in 1983. This batch was only meant as display / dealer bikes - since Suzuki had not started manufacturing the bike here. These bikes had the following features :
  • Suzuki badging everywhere (tank, speedometer, engine, helmet lock) - no mention of IND or TVS anywhere.
  • Odometer calibrated in mph.
  • Speedometer showing mph (primary) and kmph (secondary)

There above details were exclusive to the Suzuki AX100 only, but post homologation and collaboration with TVS in 1984, these were omitted in the Ind Suzuki AX100.
The below parts from the Suzuki AX100 continued to be offered in the Ind Suzuki AX100 though.
  • Metal Indicators with indicator lens "Made in Japan"
  • Suzuki engraved Helmet Lock "Made in Japan"
  • Aluminum Switch gears and levers.

In 1988, when the Ind Suzuki was re-badged as a TVS-Suzuki AX100, it omitted all the above features except for the aluminum switchgear.

So in short :
My 1984 Ind Suzuki Ax100-suzuki-features.jpg

Based on my findings, now here are my questions?
  • Was the first batch a CBU or a CKD? Is there a way to identify it through the Chassis number?
  • How many CBU / CKD bikes were imported by TVS Suzuki? Based on your interaction with Arvind Reddy, would you have more details of the other CKD/CBU bikes?
  • Although the initial batch was imported in 1983 - I have never come across a single Suzuki AX100 registered in 1983.
  • Could this be, because these bikes could not be sold until Suzuki had homologated the bikes in India? AFAIK the homologation process was completed in mid 1984 post which deliveries commenced in September that year. Thats when these CBU/CKD bikes were sold?
  • Dhabhar Sir's bike is Sep 1984 registered and has an Ind Suzuki badging - but has the mph speedometer. Could this bike have been rebadged from a Suzuki to an Ind Suzuki?
  • Arvinds bike is a Nov 1984 registered Suzuki AX100 with the Suzuki badge and the mph/kmph speedometer.

Apologies for so many questions - the reason is I am asking is to understand the history of my Suzuki AX100. Your page piqued my interest and since then I have been trying to gather more information of my bike.
Registered on Sep 1984.
Mumbai MAJ registration.
Going by the parts, its a genuine Suzuki AX100.

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki Ax100

Ind- Suzuki Update:

Guys I have finally revived by dad’s 1985 AX100. It’s far from what it use to look originally. The performance however is amazing. The sound and smoke from the silencer instantly transforms me back to my childhood days. I’ve some amazing memories with this bike and I learned to drive on this one. I’ve named it ‘FireBlade’ (I name all my automobiles).
Restoring this bike was a gruelling task. It took me 4 years and multiple mechanics to get in the shape it is. I’ll write a detailed review of this soon. After taking the bike from the mechanic who finally got it running went for 50 kms drive and it was amazing.
There are some more parts pending which I’ll complete once I get my hands on original or very close it. The parts mainly pending are:
1. Front crash guard.
2. Saree guard.
3. Rear seat ring.

Will post regular updates since I plan to use it as my daily commute now.

Thanks buddy. I just wished my dad had maintained it better. FireBlade would have been in better shape.
Yes those are Gabriel ones, I think those are for Splendor.

Actually he did, we all 10 cousins learned to drive on this bike. It was thoroughly abused and a lot of us fell down from it. I think after one point of time Dad was too tired of repairing it.

I have PMed you some details did you get it ?
