Royal Enfield Machismo 500

I have done 2900kms on my Machismo 500, and I would like to know that whether K&N filter is available to replace the original one?
Please suggest other ways to boost the performance of the bike.

Aha! Good to know that here is one soul who needs more performance out of his 500

Yes you can fit the K&N. Are you willing to let go of the original airfilter and airbox?

If yes i would suggest the K&N R1100 or Green Cotton KX1.44. I prefer the Green because it's slighlty larger and looks better.

If you're not wiling to let go of your air filter then there is a K&N replacement filter. But i forgot it's model number. Will let you know once i find out.

How far are you willing to go to increase the performance?

Well... I would not like to change the original look of the bike. So I was looking for something which fits inside the filter box itself.
Performance?? I find this bike a little sluggish; maybe next service will help?!
My Bullet 350 std 97 model was silky smooth compared to this one.
Sankar, if you remember I had enquired about the weak braking also, and you had replied that with disk at the front one need not bother much. But the fact remains that the braking is poor!

Bullet AVL 500 sluggish than a CI350?! I'm surprised to hear that. If you feel that it's far sluggish compared to a CI350 then there is something definitely wrong with the bike!

If you would like to keep the original look i'd suggest that you fit the older type airfilter in your bike. I'm referring to the type that will have the filter inside the rquare box. This is better than the type with filer inside the side box. With a little mod a K&N can be put inside that square box. It will give you the best of both worlds.

Braking issue check the pad and/or it might need brake bleeding. Well i kind of agree with you that the company provided disc brakes somehow does not perform like a disk brake should. It's an issue with many disk equipped REs. But it is still better than drum brakes that comes on Bullets. And exception is the twin leading drum brake setup on my Bullet is more than a match for factory supplied pricol kit. I'm using a brake liner that is used on trucks and buses locking the front wheel from 50 to 60 kph is easy even riding two up! And yes the longer brake lever helps in leverage too.

Well, this 500 is definately faster and quicker than the older 350, but the smoothness is not being experienced.
Which K&N comes inside the side box? May I request for the model number please?
I agree with the wheel locking with the twin lead. I have experienced the same on my previous bike. Maybe I will have to live with this braking

Hey guys,

I have an AVL 500 which I bought in last Sep and have done 1800 kms till date. I too feel that the rear brake is not very efficient for city conditions and the front disc brake is too quick .. So overall in the city conditions, the bike shows poor braking ...

I've had a RD350 for the past 12 years and have been wondering if I could fit the rear wheel of the RD into an Enfield .. RD350's rear drum is HUGE and could improve braking performance radically if it fits into Enfield !!

The AVL 500 is not as fast as RD350, but it does provide huge torque over the wide band of RPM, so if that can be used properly, it can still give RD a good chase ... The AVL pulls like crazy till 100kmph.

The brake shoes are inside the hub, as far as RD 350 is concerned and in the sproket in an enfield. So the possibility seems to be on the negative side for making such a swap.

Re: Royal Enfield Machismo 500

This friend of mine bought an avl 500 a couple of days back (2007, 11000 on the odo, stock condition).
We are very keen on changing the silencer soon. I am keen on a tuned length exhaust. It only makes sense. Does anyone have the specifications needed?

Re: Royal Enfield Machismo 500

Speaking of AVL 500...

Does anyone know the internal engine difference of an AVL 350 and 500?

I take it that the crankshaft should be bigger (heavier) and stronger for the 500 because of the bigger piston OR are they the same?

Anything else that needs to be souped up and differ between the 350 and 500?

So would an upgrade from a 350 to 500 involve just buying the AVL 500 block and piston? Is there a source that one can go to in India or directly from the factory to order the AVL 500 block and piston and whatever 500 parts that needs replacing?

Does the Machismo AVL 350 & 500 come with manuals of their own? If yes, where can it be found? Pls do share. Would love to know the full details of the machine - from pushrod size and length to cams, etc (do share if u have such info, even though it's not available via the manual

Anyone with any leads to the 500 AVL engine, I'm interested to explore options in exporting it out of India. Do pm me.

Re: Royal Enfield Machismo 500

I have an AVL 500 as well, have clocked 24000 Km in the last 2 years. I too find the rear brake to be insufficient, had initially thought about a rear disc but decided against it, this bike is built for the highway and not for the city.

There is K&N filter for all RE bikes, have been thinking about it for a while, not sure how much of a improvement will it make. K&N E-0900 Royal Enfield Air Filter, Price Rs2990/-

The AVL 350 and 500 have a common manual.

See one machismo manual here.
You can try a copy of electra-X service manual sold in major export markets. Still hanging around 500 conversion? Buy a cyl-piston kit, head assy, stud-gaskets to start with. Sit down with an opened up engine you'll figure how to go as you already know what & not to do from your old thread.

Re: Royal Enfield Machismo 500

Guys, do you use your decomp on your AVL much? I'm thinking of removing it to fit the removable tappet cover for ease of tappet tuning.

Should the decomp be kept for emergency purposes? I see that by using the clutch and kicking from there helps.

Does the replacement just fit and works fine?

Thanks!
