Hi,
Any one heard about our old kine luna, man they were ever so popular.
This Luna of my has a long history to it.The Blue Double Plus 65 cc
Once belonged to my Grandpa in 1985, supposed to have come to my hands in 1995 after the demise of my Grandpa.
Sad this did not happen it landed at Tumkur, and guess what happened, i found the same at Tumkur in 2007 with help of my uncle.
Hopped it on to Bangalore and then my restoration work started, The moped was not in that bad shape, but had lost all its paint and the engine cracked.
Got a coat of original Blue Dupont paint with a coat of clear.(Rs 2000/)
Got a new engine with all the sprockets and other accecories(Rs 6000/)
Got it fixed by an old Luna Pro(He retained all the original nuts and bolts and got them anodised or some stuff LOOKED all silvery to me)(Rs 4000/)
What a fantastic outcome.
LOOKS AS IF ITS JUST DELIVERED FROM SHOW ROOM
The Moped is now parked inside my house under my Grandpas Photo, every guest is shocked to see the Luna in the same mint condition when it comes out of the showroom.
How to post pics is a big problem, i am not well versed with this technology.
Would be glad if anyone helps in posting pix.
Ha ha,
Yes They have pedals for starting the moped(MORE OF KICK START)
There's a lever near the rear wheel, once you press them will turn into a bicycle, only once you run out of fuel.
Guys,
Here are the pictures that Kadam emailed me. Posting them on behalf of Kadam:

wow you brought my Luna's Memories back. Mine too was a Double Plus but it was Brown in color
Your grandpa would have been absolutely proud of you if he were to see his vehicle now. Terrific job pavan kadam.
Seen all generations of Luna which started in 70's with very thin and big tyres, it was Luna TFR with single seat, than TFR Plus with single seat but bit fat and small tyres, than in 80's TFR Double Plus having 55 CC engine(not 65), than many models were there having plastic and steel headlamps, exaust changed after restrictions than may be during 2002-2003 they stopped the production, this moped was known as its unique gas tank which was built within Chasis.
^^After the Double Plus came the Luna Super & Star series with rectangular headlamps.
I also used to own Luna TFR double plus in 80's, it is fun riding Luna.
It is nice moped with simple mechanism to do repairs or services. I used to clean carburator & other parts myself on sundays. As during 1980's imported motorcycles like Yamaha 125, Suzuki scrambler series were dream, I modified my Luna with front and back mudguards exactly like Yamaha 125 and when I drive everybody used to gather around my bike. It is good memories of my college days.
Cheers!
Thanks Pavan. You've bought back several sweet memories of late 80s & early 90s with your thread.
Though I never owned a Luna, it was a precious possession of my friends mother, which we used to borrow for our masti. During those days in Mysore, we used to derive more mileage (from the opposite sex) lol:using Luna than a Ferrari today.
Cheers
First launched in 1974, the luna is still sold - and not just in India but also in the US and other countries.
Over 35000 Lunas (called Kinetic TFR there) are on US roads, and one photojournalist even completed a cross country journey across the US on a Luna..
Luna has raced against and beaten the Deccan Queen train between Mumbai and Pune
Luna advertising kickstarted many glorious careers - Prahlad Kakkar and Piyush Pandey both made Luna commercials as their first ever films, and went on to become successful. The "ram murari" from the very popular "chal meri luna" ad went on to make the Munnabhai movies!
Luna has been endorsed by Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi, Sachin Tendulkar and Mohd Azharuddin
Luna was the first-ever prize given to "the Man of the Match" award in international cricket, and retained that honor for several years
Kinetic gave a Luna as a gift to the SSC topper every year, and also offered it to anyone who scored 35% exact (minimum passing marks)

Correction pls
The TFR is a single seater with a 55 cc engine and a secondary small gearbox
The Double plus is a double seater with 65 cc engine. No gear box in them,
Both are differently configured mopeds.
What i have was manufactured in 1985
I doubt if either of them had any kind of gearbox. They were just centrifugal clutches and direct drive.
I used a Luna Magnum for a couple of months and it had a CVT.
Me and a couple of my friends in San Diego are seriously considering buying Luna TFR Plus.
Mopeds at Cosmopolitan Motors
Shaan se bolo, Chal meri Luna!
My Friend Naren owns the TFR and you need to put some amount oil at the rear(BOXY THING).
My double plus does not have any place for such thing.
More over the Covers for both the mopeds are in different shape.
Kindly look closely at these two vehicles, you'll be able to tell them apart.
