Bangalore-based Ultraviolette Automotive has revealed an ambitious product plan for the next 3 years. The electric 2-wheeler brand will introduce 12 new products and aim to sell at least 1 lakh units annually over the next 3-4 years.

Ultraviolette’s upcoming range of electric 2-wheelers will be based on five distinct platforms. The F Series includes the F77 Mach 2 and F77 SuperStreet, while the S Series will feature three electric scooters, the first of which is the recently launched Tesseract.

The L Series includes enduro-style electric bikes like the Shockwave. There will be three new products under the X Series and two bikes under the upcoming B Series.

The market penetration of e-scooters has reached 13-14%, but electric motorcycles are yet to catch on. With an e-bike-heavy portfolio, Ultraviolette has set a conservative target, which the company is confident of achieving.

I am skeptical on this news, as its one thing being exclusive and another being a major player in the market competing against the incumbent players and the Ola and Ather electric players.

Is it a pivot to get bought out due to their designs?

I don't think this is a pivot. Development from scratch isn't exactly a quick process and I'd guess they've been working on these for several years now, ever since they got their halo product out on the roads.

This image came in an email after I made the booking

All of these genres of motorcycles can be seen here.

B Series (Roadster?)
S Series (Tesseract)

Shockwave and co (L Series) seems to be missing here.

So Ultraviolette has had a consumer-centric plan along and the initial premium products were a major way to garner a premium image, which of course has worked out great seeing the number of bookings the new "cheaper" options are getting. Great strategy!
