Saw couple of videos today. In one of those they showed close up and clearly called out that it's a belt driven motor. The belt also has a cover.Also the battery pack is not removable. I expect the 3.5 Kwh battery pack to give at least a atleast a100 kms range on a claimed IDC of 160.

The trick was 999 fully refundable pre-booking amount which makes it easy for majority to pre-book. Bump this pre-booking price to 10000 and they would have probably received one fourth or maybe even lesser of total pre-bookings.

Good marketing ploy, get some good funding at 0% interest, when they finally reveal pricing I am sure the cheapest scooter will be bare bone and the top of line with all the features will be almost double the price, leading to lot of booking cancellations.

Looks are subjective but this design does not do justice to the design efforts put on the F77/F99.

Fully agree with you. The front fender shape and size seems out of place, made it look like a ship. And there are too many sharp edges.

To me, it looks like a miniature version of an airplane tail wing slapped onto the sides of the scooter.

This panel is going to take a lot of beating during day-to-day rides.

Yes got the same confirmation yesterday. The only interesting part is at least a year to delivery and how many will wait that long. What all features will come in base model , will govt subsidy continue till then as on 3.5 Kwh you get that. Plus how much time they will take to deliver initial 20000 scooters.

How has nobody highlighted this in the T&Cs received through email:

3. Refundability & Cancellation
3.1 The Booking Amount shall be refundable if the Customer cancels the booking before the Vehicle’s launch.

So post-launch, if I feel the features of the base variant @1.2L are not worth the asking price and the other two variants are exorbitantly priced, I will have to forego the booking amount of Rs.999/- in case I cancel the booking, which I guess many would do.
So simply those who have booked have two options after launch - either buy the Tesseract or forget the booking amount.

In my opinion, any 3.5 kWh battery for an indicated Rs. 120,000/-, devoid of all other UV-specific features, is still a reasonably good deal—as long as it's not an Ola.

I prebooked the River Indie the day after they launched in February 2023. Heck! while I did try following their website, it was Team-BHP that announced the launch.

During the River open house to test the Indie, all the employees turned up.

If you have a question about the battery, there is one to answer it. There is also one on the motor; the person was there. And there is one dedicated person to charging.

The River Team ensured no question went unanswered.

The only question I had at the end of the day was to determine the color of the Indie and not if I was buying or not.

Why?

The Indie was my and most of my fellow booking customers' first EV. Without it, we had no reference point for whether we were being charged more or less than the competition.

However, one ride on the Indie was good enough to help reinforce the value proposition it offered.

Just then, the government had reduced the subsidy by a third per kWh. Yet River went ahead and sold the vehicle at the introductory price to customers who booked before the launch in August 2023.

I didn't need any more reason to buy two Indies.

At Rs. 125,000, the River Indie was as good an EV or ICE scooter as you could get for that kind of money.

What the Tessaract promises is fun and cool for a very reasonable price. They're definitely not making this a mass-market product chasing tens of thousands of customers every month. The point that impresses me is that the Tessaract will be the introduction for many of us to the Ultraviolette universe. I won't be surprised if many of the potential customers for the Tessaract convert their bookings for the F77 street or sport.

This is a good strategy.

Their 3.5 kWh will do the numbers. The enthusiasts will pick up the 5 and 6 kWh batteries.

So why the long detour on to the River Indie?

Because the Tessaract is squarely benchmarked against the River Indie. And if it can as much as match the River in its reliability, stability, and comfort, this is going to sell like hot cakes.

I won't be surprised if the wheelbase comes to be within 10 mm of each other.

And a win-win for us, the customers!

If Ultraviolette can price the 6 kWh just short of Rs. 200,000, it'll have many of us gladly bring out our checkbooks or phones, and pay the sum.

After being an EV owner over the last 17 months, I say out loud - bring us more EVs with solid power and a chassis that dances well. We've enough of ones with poor build quality, or a terrible affection for range and nothing else.

It's time for EV scooters to have their place under the sun!

River Indie is utilitarian, while the Tesseract is Sporty. Pricing alone is not a good benchmark in my humble opinion (A newbie to the world of EV).

Also, let's stay positive on the pricing. Maybe they have a surprise up their sleeve. I wouldn't lose sleep over Rs 999.

An update on the specs of the base 3.5 kWh model. It's peak power at 13.4hp (10 kW) is much lower than the 20hp (15 kW) for the other two battery options (5 & 6 kWh).

But this loss in peak power is more likely to affect the 125kph top speed figure substantially instead of the headline acceleration figure of 2.9 seconds for 0-60.

And even at the lower power output, it is almost at par with the most powerful sub 150cc motorcycles, or the Aerox / Xoom 160 (after accounting for transmission losses which are present on an ICE powertrain but not on an EV)

I wonder what's the 0-100kmph time. Indian companies should stop using the 0-60kmph times. I think it's mischievous as the customer may interpret a faster time to 100kmph. Or could the UV tesseract have a 5-6 second 100kmph timing?

At least Ultraviolette is quoting 0-60. The other EV brands quote 0-40.

And anyways for primary city usage vehicles, 0-60 is the more important metric.

As far as 5-6 second 0-100, even the F77 doesn't do that. That one needs 8 seconds. The same as a Duke 250.

The fastest Made in India 2 wheeler, the RS457 does it in a whisker under 5 seconds. The new Duke 390 does it in 5.6 seconds. The 280 odd hp BE6 takes over 6.5 seconds. A lot of work needs to be done to get there in a production vehicle.

Anything between 10-13 seconds is good enough for this power output (of the larger battery variants) considering the current 0-100 champ in the scooter segment is the Aerox 155 at 18.5 seconds.
