January 2025: Indian Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only bikes that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Yamaha R3 stocks exhausted, or no one is interested even after the price cut? Heck, the old Ninja 300 is selling more than the R3.

What happened to the Karizma, updated model incoming or failed resurrection?

The price cut got announced on 31st Jan. So no impact on Jan sales.
Feb figures would be interesting for R3 and Ninja300

TVS Jupiter making good ground in catching up with Activa. The difference is reducing month on month.
Activa needs a refresh on similar lines of Jupiter.

Re: January 2025: Indian Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

So from the sales numbers, pulsars from 150cc to 220cc range (N, NS, F, etc) sell about 40000 units per month. Apaches in the same class seem to selling around 35000 units per month and yet in the cities/towns i have visited in Maharashtra and Karnataka, there are a lot of pulsars to be seen out on the roads while there are sparingly few apache rtrs on the road. Why this discrepancy? Are TVS apaches concentrated in very few states?

Aditya Sir - Would you pls consider removing the list of motorcycles that are no longer sold, like Tiger 800 XCx for example. Thanks

And, thank you for your arduous task of compiling the data into report.

Wondering what are the sales figures of BSA Goldstar 650?
I've not seen a single bike on road here in Vadodara(Gujarat)!

What happened to Bajaj Freedom sales for the last 3 months? Is Bajaj kiling the bike which was launched with much fanfare so early?

Re: January 2025: Indian Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

There has been a sudden increase in the numbers for Gixxer and Pulsar 160 + 200 NS. What could be the reason?

It's nice to see electric vehicle making it to the Top 15 list, with two vehicles making it to the Top 20. Also, Vida sales have shown good progress in a month's time.

These numbers are factory dispatches and not retail sales, manufacturers add or reduce production units depending upon the number of unsold inventory.

As said above these are manufacturer dispatches, they are just rejuvenating the dealer lot, who will then sell it.

We’ll never see a straight line in production numbers for a myriad of reasons

Coz apache is very popular in Tamil Nadu, there you might struggle to see pulsars, a big chunk of TVS sales come from Tamil Nadu.

As Tamilians I speak to take an extra pride in owing a TVS.

Feb and march month sales figure of R3 vs RS457 would be very interesting, as it will serve as a case study for these Japanese giants to localise their 300-500cc lineup.
If R3 overtakes RS457 in feb or/and march sales, it will be a clear msg to Japan HQ that India is ready for this class of motorcycles and they need to invest right to price it right.
