The 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke was launched in September 2023. It is based on an updated steel trellis frame suspended by an adjustable 43 mm upside-down front fork and a mono-shock at the rear.

The 390 Duke is powered by a new 399cc LC4c single-cylinder engine. It delivers 45.37 BHP and 39 Nm and comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The bike is equipped with a 5-inch digital instrument console, offering smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation. It has launch control and three riding modes – Street, Rain and Track.

Bit miffed as an owner but this is the price they should have launched at. This, R3, RS457 are all priced by 15k more than they should really. Hope this also stop journalists from saying 'prices will only increase' and creating FOMO.

Current owners won't be happy but at least the previous price was constant for two years. With the 390 ADVX priced at 2.9L, it was not looking good for the 390 Duke. It is great value now with the comprehensive electronic suite and adjustable shocks. As an old KTM owner, I'm happy that KTM is finally playing the game they were good at, giving great fun at reasonable prices. Motorcycle prices were skyrocketing and now we are seeing so many price corrections.

I'm still stumped as to why they're still selling the RC390 with the 373cc engine even though the Duke with the new 400cc engine has been on sale for nearly a year. A year!
Even the Svartpilen 401 gets the updated engine.
They have to manage two separate engine assembly lines, their respective parts, and support... *scratches head*

RC always lagged behind the Duke by about 2 years since the og RC390 came out about 2 years after the launch of the D390. It's already in the final testing phase. Might launch this year. And their international situation might not be helping.

Such price corrections are good and all for the new buyers, but more importantly there should be beneficiary repercussions for owners who bought the product at the original price. And this should be treated as a band-aid solution to mend the brand image and uphold customer trust. Such steps leave a sour taste for people who feel they have overpaid and who will warn other potential buyers to be wary of such plays. I feel you @hikozaru.

In the long run, even the companies themselves will face sales drought at the time of launch, especially premium products because the people who are interested in the product will wait for the price correction if the product seems over-priced at the time of launch or will switch to another product all together if they are in a hurry to get something. Especially the companies who are notorious for such tactics in the Indian context *stern stare at the Japanese brands*. The only people who will buy such seemingly overpriced products will be the true, loyal followers of the brand. And guess who will be hurt the most and trust the brand will lose when such price corrections come in. Their true and merit-based brand ambassadors. Will their loyalists be confident to upgrade within the brand itself the next time? Some might but they will definitely lose many along the way.

There must also be a call out to the journalists to let the people know if a product seems overpriced at launch and what should be a ballpark market price should be considering the price bracket, target audience and the competitors. One such recent instance I remember of is Shumi from Motorinc saying that the price of the Triumph Speed T4 could be brought down another ₹10K and guess what, the Speed T4's is currently being sold at a discount of up to ₹18K. Such practices should become industry standard, not just saying that the product is overpriced and leave it at that.

Eeehhh. Minor discounts have been a thing for bikes forever. Only recently, people (like me but not really because R3) have gotten into this habit of not negotiating or waiting for a year end or festive sale or what have you. And you know what, if 18k can buy me a year in other respects, I would gladly do it again. At the same time, I am not spending even the revised price for a R3. Or a 60USD pc game when I can get the GOTY version on sale two years later. As long as people make informed decisions of much they value something personally, its all game.

I was being a bit too cynic about it. Sorry if I rubbed you off the wrong way. I was being hyper-focused on an industry behavior which has been happening since long. Value truly overpowers worth, especially on a personal basis, notwithstanding price fluctuations. Glad to know that the Duke is worth it. Seems like even the Duke 250 got a price cut of ₹20K. Competition truly is a nice thing.

On a side note, this nicely creates some space for the upcoming RC 390.

First Yamaha and now KTM. Tuono 457 is making other manufacturers rethink their pricing strategies. Good for us consumers.

What will happen now to the Svartpilen 401? It is now cheaper by only Rs 2000. Unless KTM give it the full electronics suite including the IMU and probably a set of tubeless wheels I don't think it's going to sustain.

Husky brand will be shut down in India. Before I bought my GS650, I tried to get a test ride of Svart 401 for about 6 months. None of the showrooms ever had it - either it was in maintenance or outstation or media drive etc etc. And they never bothered to call to inform me if it all it was available. An this is in Pune city where they are built!
In general, they did not seem to want to sell it.

That is really sad. I really loved the way the bike looks. I was fortunate enough to get a test ride also, here in Bangalore.

Baby Huskys in India didn’t get the lean-sensitive (IMU-based) tech when they were launched, but the export models do. The website doesn’t mention that the lean-sensitive tech is IMU-based—it’s just a cheap tactic by top management. I believe the competition will help bring them back to their senses. I know several people who bought the 390 Duke just because it had the full electronics suite, even though they didn't like the styling. People should have choices.

Test mules of the updated RC have been out for a while now. That whole bankruptcy thing means the ADV would've been prioritised since that category sells a lot more than small capacity supersports.
