Gupta joined India's largest 2-wheeler maker in 2017, and played a crucial role in strengthening the financial resilience of the company, Dr. Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, said in his statement.

Dr. Munjal also confirmed the appointment of Vikram Kasbekar as acting CEO, an industry veteran with experience spanning R&D, operations, supply chain, and engineering.

Hero MotoCorp has also made other managerial changes. Ashutosh Varma, National Sales Head - India Business Unit (IBU), has been elevated to the position of Chief Business Officer (CBO) of IBU. He will take charge on May 1, 2025. Ram Kuppuswamy will continue his role as the Chief Procurement Officer and Chief Operations Officer - Manufacturing. This has been a regular scene at hero for past many years. There is no stability at the top level management. Last five years saw 3 R&D heads, 2 product planners, Even the CHRO who joined very recently resigned.

I don't know why this is happening at Hero. If one looks at its 2 wheeler counterparts like Bajaj/ TVS/ Eicher ie RE, the top management has been fairly stable.

The Q3 results of the company is scheduled on 06th Feb 2025. A very important concall to look forward to.

Even at Bharat Mobility despite having the largest stall, the top mgmt had a very minimal presence. The chairman was absent. The CEO did the press briefing but his body language was not confidence inspiring.

With Honda breathing just down at its throat, this are very testing times for Hero. Hopefully the sense prevails

Re: Hero MotoCorp CEO Niranjan Gupta steps down | Vikram Kasbekar to be acting CEO

Hero has been consistently losing market share. Save for the evergreen splendor and the newest Xtreme 125R, nothing from their stable is selling. All other products sell less than 20K units per month, which is very low for Hero considering they are roughly the equivalent of Maruti in two wheelers.

Honda is putting up a fierce fight, they are building on their reliability quotient, their struggle with entry level bikes have somewhat been mitigated by their Shine 100 launch which sells respectable numbers (approx 35K per month).

Hero's struggle in the scooter space is real. Xoom is the only one that sells adequate numbers just because of its looks. All others have reliability issues in terms of engine or electricals. TVS hit a sixer with their Jupiter in 2013, now they have amplified that in the 2024 update. The jupiter numbers are up by atleast 70% YoY. A lesson to Hero on how to launch successful products and build on it, instead of squandering it!

Everything is not right in internals of the Hero. It seems the wizard of indian 2 wheelers have forgotten the magic wand. The communication channels seems to be lack of confidence inspiring. The strong descisions are now a history. No new product. No new market creator. The JVs are not going to help in long run.

This was just 2 weeks back. Suddenly what transpired to make him quit is just puzzling. If a CEO is quitting then the minimum notice period should be 6 months.

Also the successor should be appointed in the time outgoing CEO notice period ends. The concept of acting CEO is a farce. This announcement came out of blue.
