TVS has showcased the Jupiter CNG - the world’s first CNG scooter, at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.



While the Jupiter CNG is still a concept, the prototype unveiled at the event looks almost production-ready.



TVS has neatly integrated a 1.4 kg CNG tank under the seat. However, this means the Jupiter CNG has no underseat storage space. The tank is hidden under a plastic panel, which has a filler nozzle and a pressure gauge.



The Jupiter CNG also has a 2-litre petrol tank mounted under the floorboard, and the fuel filler is located on the front apron.



TVS claims that the Jupiter CNG can cover 84 km on 1 kg of CNG and has a combined range of 226 km (CNG+Petrol).



The Jupiter CNG is powered by a 124.8cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 7.1 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 9.4 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. It can reach a top speed of 80 km/h.

Great work, TVS! After bikes, now we will get CNG in scooters too.

I have seen a few advertisements by local vendors about adding CNG to Activa or other two wheelers, but it's always better to have it factory fitted.

On a side note, when Bajaj introduced a CNG bike, many throught it would be a big hit, but it was not. I am not sure if people are really ready for CNG two wheelers.

It is a pain to fill CNG as of now. There is always a big line for filling, whatever be the time of day, comprising of mostly autos and cabs. Personal CNG car owners have to wait for their turn in that line, which turns off many from CNG vehicles. I personally will hate to be in that line.

So if the inconvenience of filling CNG is that bad why would anyone buy this instead of a electric.

CNG also has no under seat storage space, the center of gravity will be higher, thanks to CNG tank.

Just google CNG tank explosion images, it will look like a bomb blast with no fire. This is due to extremely high pressure at which CNG is stored.

In a two wheeler accident, I wouldn't want to be driving or riding next to it because of the collateral damage it causes to bystanders, in a event of tank explosion due to accident or tank fatigue since many people will not replace the tank even after it's expiry date.

Easy for many of us city folks to question the logic, but then there is good demand from the rural areas. TVS will be hoping to divert from the blind demand for the Activa as much as possible with this differentiator.

These numbers for the Freedom CNG (despite being the pioneer) is as good as any electric vehicle would like to have.
