re: Hero Xtreme 250R launched at Rs 1.80 lakh

Looks stunning, definitely grabs some eyeballs. Its good to see homegrown bike makers aggressively creeping into the 250cc + segments with reasonable price tag, while biggies like Honda/Yamaha are not able to crack it in India.

Just one observation, The indicator placement on the tail section is not good if one is going to mount saddle bags. They will be squished easily, should have jutted out of the tail section like most bikes do.

Of course, I didn't find it offensive since it is a 125. But I will definitely keep an eye out when I'm on the road the next time round. Thanks for pointing it out!

But back to topic, yeah, the bike looks really good, Hero has been hitting it out of the park lately, it's a shame they're unable to sell as many (premium ones - Maverick specifically) as they ought to.
The Xtreme has one of the fattest rear tyres in the 125cc segment, but I am unsure if any lower priced variants exist with a thinner tyre. So far, from what I can tell from the Hero website, it only comes with a 120 section tyre.

What is possible is that the delivery guy has opted for a cheaper and thinner rear tire and that might've contributed to you feeling that it is skinny.

IMO, the competition has already shifted to the 400cc segment. Now, Hero is late to join the game, and that too with a 250cc.

The sales figures clearly show that the 400cc segment is where the real action is happening. Let's break it down:

250cc Segment
Dominar 250: 343, 556, 557
Duke 250: 1131, 1696, 816
Gixxer 250: 60, 85, 64
FZ25: Discontinued

Only the Duke 250 has shown consistent sales, while others like Dominar 250 and Gixxer 250 haven’t been able to sustain strong sales.

300cc Segment
CB 300R: 105, 201, 0
CB 300F: 224, 310, 79
RR310: 515, 665, 758
G310R/G310GS: No sales figures provided by BMW

The 300cc segment isn’t performing well overall. Only the RR310 getting some traction.

400cc Segment
Speed/Scrambler 400: 2240, 4005, 3411
Duke 390: 290, 513, 695
Dominar 400: 278, 493, 794
NS400Z: 582, 1322, 2122
X440: 387, 2200, 1442
Guerrilla 450: 797, 1584, 1657
Himalayan 450: 1534, 2199, 1814

Clearly, the 400cc segment is where most brands are thriving. Bikes like the Speed 400, NS400Z, and Himalayan 450 are leading the way, offering great performance at an affordable price. The options here have everything—from great features to powerful engines, making them highly attractive for those moving up from 150cc or 200cc bikes. People looking for a performance-oriented bike in the lower capacity segment typically consider options like the R15, MT15, Apache, 200NS, and Duke 200. For those upgrading from 150cc or 200cc motorcycles, the 400cc category is becoming the natural choice. Bikes like the Speed 400 have completely shifted the game in this segment, followed by models like the NS400Z. For a relatively affordable price, you now get a 400cc bike packed with features and performance.

The Challenge for Hero with 250cc
The real challenge for Hero will be convincing riders to opt for a 250cc bike when they have access to more powerful and well-equipped 400cc options. With so much value and performance available in the 400cc segment, it’s going to be tough for Hero’s 250cc offering to find a foothold in this competitive market. Otherwise, Hero should focus on convincing people who are currently opting for bikes like the R15, MT15, or other performance-oriented 150cc to 200cc options.

The way to stand out won’t be by offering a value-for-money proposition, but by delivering a true performance-focused 250cc bike—something akin to what the old CBR 250R used to be. It needs to be a capable, well-rounded motorcycle that stands out in terms of performance, handling, and overall riding experience. Only then can Hero carve out a space in this segment, especially in a market that demands more than just basic features.

re: Hero Xtreme 250R launched at Rs 1.80 lakh

It seems they have nailed the pricing, which they also must maintain over a longer period on the scale of automotive-pricing time for the product to penetrate into the market enough to garner word of mouth traction for the Hero premium line up. This puts them at quite an advantage over the Duke 250 keeping in check their lack of electronics and tech package comparatively. It has covered the required hygiene for a street naked to be marketable. Only disappointment so far has been that lackluster speedo. They should at least provide an upgraded variant with the new Xpulse 210 Pro's TFT speedo, which looks so good and sophisticated.

Sorting their QC and product longevity alongside the provision of premium service network for the premium customer is a must now to bifurcate their mass market and premium line ups into their own distinct sub-brand identities.

There has never been a better time for an motorcycle enthusiast .

re: Hero Xtreme 250R launched at Rs 1.80 lakh

The Pricing, Features, and Hardware equipment loaded is spot on.

I never expected these many good points in the product from Hero.

The CEO also mentioned 'only 1 variant as of now', which means either a base model will spawn or a top variant will be launched with TFT and visor.

Good times are ahead for Hero.

Re: Hero Xtreme 250R launched at Rs 1.80 lakh

This looks like the perfect city bike. I have been thinking of replacing my 10 year old CBR 250 for some thing modern, peppy and fun to drive and was looking to buy the R15 but this feels like the perfect replacement. Just hoping that the vibrations are low and the engine feels smooth. Being a hero, I'm hoping the maintenance will be pocket friendly too.
