Is this "battery warranty to 8years or 80000kms" available only on the Rizta model or even the earlier ones? I have a Nov-2022 Ather 450X model & I have opted for the 4th & 5th year extended warranty. Can I buy this 8 year extended warranty for my Ather as well?

I finally received a call from Bangalore. As suggested, I took my scooter to the nearest service center and am now awaiting a response. I will share all updates here.

Please ask them what was issue in the battery and how did they solve it, including last time. Don't let them get away with some vague answer.

Since your battery would have at max did about 145 cycles when the issue came out first, which is not much. The voltage of the battery pack must have dropped really low due to some cells going bad or if it's a problem in the current and voltage sensing circuit in the BMS.

From what I gather, this courtesy is being extended to those vehicles invoiced in July, August & September'2024 in retrospect, irrespective of their model (450X, Apex or Ritza). The qualifying owners were reached out on whatsapp. So if you have received no such communication from the company, then you possibly might not be able to avail this EBW (Extended Battery Warranty).

My Ather 450X recently crossed 15,000 km. Four months ago, I faced a battery degradation issue, and although the warranty had expired after three years, Ather offered to repair the battery for free and even provided a loaner battery during the repair period. I was genuinely impressed by their support at the time, even though it took few emails and phone calls.

Unfortunately, my experience with the Ather 450X has taken a turn for the worse. The battery performance has deteriorated significantly, and now the scooter barely manages to run 12 km on a full charge. This has completely shaken my trust in EVs.

I’m now deeply concerned about my decision to invest in another EV. While I still believe in the potential of electric vehicles, these recurring issues have left me questioning their reliability.
Now the shocking surprise is that Ather has not responded to my email even after 24 hours, apart from the usual automated kind of replay.
As a 450x gen3 owner, I found service response time on higher side from Ather for uncommon issues. But they do reach out and assist in every possible manner. You should not loose faith or hope and it's good to know from later post that they have called the vehicle for diagnosis.

I think a battery leak could be potential reason. If the vehicle is accessible, we can try charging the vehicle and then check overnight discharge percentage. It should be higher incase of a drain.

Still you can check out Ather's battery warranty program in which they provide warranty for 8 years or 80,000km with the battery health above 70%. It comes with the additional charges of 4,999
I have the 5 year extended battery protection from Ather and recently inquired with the customer care if I can go for the 8 years warranty. They confirmed it is valid only vehicles purchased on or after July 2024. Still I will check with showroom once again and update.

After the repair, the scooter performed well for the next four months, which restored my confidence in EVs. In fact, I was so reassured that I decided to take the plunge and purchase a Tata Punch EV, which I am set to receive next week.

Now a days, I’m scared of anything with a battery after the infamous iPhone issue. Stories like this about EVs just add to that fear. Hope Ather addresses this soon!

Re: Battery degradation issues post warranty period on my Ather 450X

I received a call from the Ather service center today. They informed me that my scooter's battery will be replaced within a week. In the meantime, they will provide a loaner battery so I can use my scooter. I'll share updates here. Fingers crossed!

Update - Ather delivered my scooter with a loaner battery to my residence. I’m now waiting for the new battery pack to arrive.

Re: Battery degradation issues post warranty period on my Ather 450X

Update: The day before yesterday, I received a call from the Ather service centre informing me that a new battery was ready. Yesterday, a person from the service team came to my home, took the scooter, and returned it in the evening with the new battery. I asked whether it was just another reworked battery, and he assured me it was new. I hope he is right. I also hope this one lasts longer—fingers crossed. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can take an extended warranty now.

Glad to see your issue sorted by Ather.

Referring to what you have mentioned above, is there no way to figure out the battery health either from the onboard software or the connected features? That should tell you the real story about new/reworked battery being supplied to you right?
