KTM SMC 390 spotted testing with a saree guard

KTM SMC 390 is coming to India for sure. It was spotted testing with a saree guard :

it is running road tyres wrapped on wire-spoke rims, but I guess alloys from Duke will also be offered.

That's great news! Does that mean they are going to launch the triplet of 390s together? This one looks production spec. Since the front brakes are radial, a swap with duke wheels should be direct. Though the spoke wheels look real good in true Sumo sense.

I guess this will be launched later in 2025; Adventure and Enduro are already launching in like a month so SMC should come within 6 months after the launch of these Adventure bikes.

Do you mean the Duke's alloys wont be a direct fit on Enduro R? I was hoping to go for Enduro with a spare set of Duke alloys for some fun rides around town.

And the plot thickens!

I wonder how hard would it be to mod the 390 Duke to get it close to the SMC in terms of looks and functionality. I reckon the front suspension could be a direct fit. I'd really love to be able to add the high fender and the flat seat too.

No, you'll probably have to mess around with the lower fork legs to fit the current wheel and disc setup of a duke. Both ADV and Enduro comes with an axial setup and the disc looks smaller than Duke's. Plus the Duke gen 3 comes with that really big hub-less front disc so you can't swap the Enduro disc to that one. It is doable but I don't think it is a direct plug and play swap. We will know for sure once the bike get's launched. But the current NS400 looks like a possible front wheel donor looking at very similar brake disc and axial setup. Don't quote me on this.

Re: KTM 390 Adventure R spotted ahead of EICMA 2024

The dilemma I have is that now I have two options for a dream 390SMT build

Buy the ADV R and swap to 17s with a compromised odo(or figure that out).
OR
Buy the SMC and add a fairing but lose cruise control and possibly get a smaller tank.

This is something i did render on my D390 2 years ago

.
Husqvarna Vitpilen 250s front 320mm radial brakes and 240mm rear wheels seem like a possible fit

Re: KTM SMC 390 spotted testing with a saree guard

KTM official has been dropping some info on the SMC R and the Enduro R. Some of the specs like seat height, TFT screen with navigation, fully switchable ABS, adjustable suspension are all good.

KTM has launched the SMC R in some international markets. And dropped a quintessential sumo promo.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEz8S...Q1MjV5OTVqNA==

It costs the same as a Duke 390 in UK at £5699.

It looks hot in these promo shots

The Youtube video of the same is below. Lets just say that I might have rewatched it at least a dozen times!

With the specs for the euro model revealed. Wet weight is around 161kg, which is almost 7kg lighter than the 390 duke.
Front fork has 30 step adjustment for compression and rebound.
Rear has 20 step adjustment for rebound.

A large chunk of that weight saving must be coming from the small 9 litre tank, that's about the same size as the first gen 390s.
The seat height figure is at 860mm, but the seat appears to be narrow.

Quote:
Suspending the 390 SMC R is a WP USD fork with 230mm of travel, which is adjustable for rebound and compression. At the rear, there’s a monoshock adjustable for rebound and preload with the same travel. We reported late last year that the KTM 390 SMC R was spotted testing in India. That specific test mule had alloy wheels and non-adjustable suspension. It remains to be seen if Bajaj will offer adjustable suspension and tubeless spoke wheels on the India-spec model.

Handling braking duties on this supermoto are Bybre branded radial calipers and discs on both ends, the same as the 390 Duke. In comparison, the KTM Adventure 390 S and Enduro R get axial-mounted calipers. These radial-mounted calipers are of superior quality and inherently offer more stopping power.

In typical KTM fashion, the 390 SMC R will also feature switchable rear ABS with supermoto mode. The European-spec 390 SMC R has 17-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Power 6 rubber – 110 section in front and 150 section at the rear. It remains to be seen what tyres the India-spec SMC will be shod with.
ACI | 390 SMC R specs

Remains to be seen if it ever makes it to our market.

Re: KTM SMC 390 spotted testing with a saree guard

Love this barebones frame + engine + wheels render from their website. For some reason it looks like a Post-apocalyptic motorcycle contraption. Just add a seat and a headlight

Re: KTM SMC 390 spotted testing with a saree guard

this is just too exciting !
These specs basically show what to expect from enduro and the only thing I am not too thrilled is the small tank size ( works on SMC, but I expected atleast 13L for Enduro ).
But this bike just looks awesome ! I particularly love the minimal instrument cluster - its just perfect.
Minimal body work, good suspension travel, simple headlights that dont look weird like many other KTMs, light weight, hopefully good breaking and gearing - this seems to check most of the boxes for a fun little bike
