Re: Hero Xpulse 200 4V Dakar Edition launched

Looks decent, but why don't they paint at least for special editions; stickers aren't quite 'livery'. Wouldn't anyone rather spend the 3k premium (over the Pro) on stickers appealing to their style if they're really into it? Not that the buyers are cheapskates; this is just poor value. I'm sure if Hero puts some actual though into such editions to reflect how truly special they are, buyers will happily pay even more as it'd resonate with them better. The regular Pro is already such a niche bike and, let's face it, a bit unnecessarily more even for the regular XPulse off-roaders. They could really add value to such bikes with truly specialised editions, and earn lot more in profit which people are willing to pay for. Hero just seems to have no clue about how niches work.

Re: Hero Xpulse 200 4V Dakar Edition launched

Along with the Dakar edition, the regular Xpulse also gets a new color, 'BLACK INDUSTRIAL GREY', which looks fresh compared to the existing Red and Blue one.
and addition of LED indicators.
Though this looks like stock clearance, they could have reduced the price as a year-end discount.

But the wait for 210 is still going on.

Hero will do everything except release the 210! Glad I stopped waiting and got the Rally a while ago.

I don't think this is part of a stock clearance drive. Hero will most probably sell 200 4v's for sometime even after the launch of Xpulse 210. Year end discounts are offered by the showrooms.

Re: Hero Xpulse 200 4V Dakar Edition launched

I don’t think hero will stop selling the oil cooled 200 4v. This engine will be easy to maintain as compared to the liquid cooled. I also believe the bottom end torque delivery on this will be better than the 210. During the initial days after the launch of the 210 sales may be good but i feel they will taper of similar to what happened to the himalayan 450. I wont be surprised if the old himalayan makes a come back with the new 440cc engine.

Also, more reliable. It's just one less thing to worry about, especially if you are taking it to places it enables you to. Could you expand on why you believe bottom end torque will be better in the 200?

I was only expecting a 300 or at least a 250 from Hero. Now, what I'm curious to see is that, how Hero's engineering is going to stack up against us bunch of dummies- there've been some big bore kits in the after-market. While Hero's 210 will surely be more reliable than the after-market kits, rest is going to be interesting.

I'm not sure if they'll be able to up-sell the 210, with 200 still being available. They can't ask too much in price, regardless of how much more it offers, as the general market will only perceive as 'only 10cc more'. So, I think they will discontinue the 200s- like they did with the 2Vs- at least just to cover their R&D costs on the 210.

I do like the old Himalayan design better, but not so sure about its comeback, as chassis design differs significantly in the 440. Who knows; given how RE has been releasing bikes lately, they may already be considering trademarking 'Himalayan Classic' or something.

Going by the specs 200 4v makes about 18bhp at 8500rpm and 17Nm at 6500rpm this is low for a 200cc engine, this usually indicates that the engine has good torque spread though out the rev range even if the numbers are small.

Where as the 210 (karizma engine) makes about 25bhp at 9250rpm and 20Nm at 7250rpm, revs are higher. Compression ratio has also gone up from about 10 to 12. But the cc difference is just 10. This Engine specs is close to the 200 duke. Hence it makes me believe that its more of a highway bike than an off-roader. Hero could tune it, change the sprocket to be off road friendly but i doubt it will be anywhere close to how the 200 4v is mainly due to the torque spread.

I was thinking that they might launch the old Himalayan based on the new scram 440 which was unveiled recently.
