re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

Voted for TVS Jupiter 110

To start with, the TVS Jupiter is famous in the scooter segment, and it's monthly sales figures reflect this popularity. The new version successfully helps TVS maintain the user-friendly image of the Jupiter along with strong sales numbers. It has a new look and has become more stylish. It now features updates that make the Jupiter more relevant. It comes with a front fuel fill, so the rider doesn't have to get down at the petrol pump.

Another reason for voting for the Jupiter is that you are likely to find someone using it in your near circle. Most of the two wheelers listed are either 400cc or over, and you would not find many user reviews for them. In contrast, two wheelers like the TVS Jupiter or Bajaj Freedom are used by many people.

re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

There is one product that has injected life into the most important but still the most lifeless segment, the family scooter.

Even though I would have wanted to vote for the Rizta, I think Ather missed a trick by not offering it with the optional ABS despite their 'It will never skid' campaign.

One look at the Jupiter 110, and you know this is something totally fresh. At least when the segment is concerned. TVS took a big risk by making changes to their winning Jupiter formula. I want to reward it with my vote.

Notable mentions:
Aprilia RS457 - The best A2 sportbike in the country, also priced moderately well. Not insanely like some of its competitors. Could have been priced better though. Service is an issue as well.
Pulsar NS400Z - Truly shaking up the segment of 1.8 lakh INR+ motorcycles. That is one motorcycle that needs to be assessed fairly when buying anything from the 250-500cc segments. It may not win any segments, but it does make life very difficult for the competition. True democratization of power.
Freedom 125 - Demonstration that there is more than one way of attacking the running costs + green problem. Not everything needs to be electric. It may not be for me, but there is a large segment of users for whom this daring product may be ideal!

P.S.: The best scooter currently sold in India, the Ather 450 Apex was launched on Jan 4th 2024. It may look like a 450x but trust me, both are very different. It's sad that it is not on this list. Would have got my vote over the Jupiter 110. My family did vote with the wallet for that one.

re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

The Triumph Speed T4 is not included in this list.. an oversight perhaps?

My vote still remains the RS457 for pushing the envelope what an affordable middle-weight sports bike can be.

Whilst Honda is snoozing and had withdrawn their 650 platform, Yamaha is dumping overpriced 321cc parallel-twins, Kawasaki still selling their globally outdated Ninja 300 and pricey Ninja 500, and Suzuki forgetting that they make bikes other than an Access 125, Aprilia stepped up to provide a fantastic big-bike experience with zero compromises, all at a price that is simply excellent.

I would go for the RS457. Excellent machine in a reasonable price category and kills the competition in terms of engineering and performance. Design is excellent too and gives a full on big bike vibe. Although I love Kawasaki bikes but they keep on overpricing them, ZX-6R is a lovely bike that I wish to own someday.

re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

Most names in the list are over 400cc, while it may have been enthusiast's delight in owning and running these machines, I wanted to vote for innovation in mass market products.

I was torn between the TVS Jupiter 110 - because TVS took a risk of completely updating their scooter that's the 2nd most popular month on month in India sales. Updates sometimes make or break a product - the Activa for one looks the same for the past 2 decades. The Hero Maestro after its update became the Maestro Edge and completely disappeared from the market. So the TVS scoot is the second choice for me.

But it was the Bajaj Freedom 125 that I have voted for. Ample innovations from an Indian company that understands the pain point of Indians, took a lot of risks and educating the consumer that their bike is actually safe. Needs some balls of steel. So I am rewarding them with my vote. Not everything green has to be only-electric!

This was quite tough. As a motorcycle lover, I just adore the Bear 650, BMW GS, Aprilia RS and the mad Ducati Hypermotard !!

But Bajaj has catered to the vast majority of riders out there who need an economic mode of two-wheeled transportation. And for that, and innovating where others fear to tread, I have voted for the Freedom 125.

re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

Kawasaki ZX-6R - What's new in this? BS6.2 E20?

Triumph T4 could have been included as the engine is different from the Speed 400 with a heavier crank!

BSA Gold Star 650 - A good retro bike with a retro engine, big single! A choice of the heart over the mind.

Three prominent big bikes were launched this year but without much presence on the roads,
  • Suzuki GSX-8R
  • Suzuki VStrom 800
  • Triumph Daytona 660
Riders are still queuing up for the Honda big bikes, NX500 & Transalp 750!

BMW 1300 GS is the retirement bike, it's the pinnacle of riding!

The following list of bikes are a derivative of another model in some way or the other,
  • Bajaj Pulsar NS 400Z
  • Hero Mavrick 440
  • Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450
  • Husqvarna Svartpilen 401
  • Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650
  • Royal Enfield Shotgun 650
Three Motorcycles stood out for me this year,
  • Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG - A change, a disruptor? The good thing is, I see them on the roads!
  • Hero Xtreme 125R - A segment favorite. It's popular among young riders.
  • Aprilia RS 457 - This is a good bike but Aprilia sales/service holds you back to put down your money!
This time. I'll vote for the Freedom 125 CNG.

No comments on the EV scooters but the TVS Jupiter 110 is easy to recommend to anyone.

Happy riding,
surjonwheelz

I have voted for Jupiter 110, reasons are;

Rider triangle is the best among scooters and is great for my back
Fresh Styling
Responsive engine
Largest under-seat storage
Fuel efficient
Very bright and useful LED headlight
Great pricing

I think this is the first time I voted for a scooter.
But the engineering on this is groundbreaking. We bought TWO!

re: Team-BHP Motorcycle / Scooter of the Year, 2024. Edit: It's the Aprilia RS 457!

This year has been an exciting year for motorcycle enthusiasts, having competent launches in each and every segment.

Newly launched and totally revamped Jupiter 110 is one of the best ICE scooter below 1 Lakh. Ritza 3.7kW is easily the best family EV scooter.

Multiple launches from RE within 650 and 450 family were particularly enticing.

Middleweight segment also was buzzing with Suzuki GSX 8R, D890R, ST765.

Most launches were in ADV segments starting from ADV 390, V Storm 900, BMW GS family and newly launched KTM ADV1290R.

But the one I voted for is an obvious choice which is relevant to my riding skills as well as my pocket. The Aprilia RS457. That 270 degree twin has brutal torque (comparatively), Amazing Exhaust note, Agile chassis. Pro's easily outweigh the Con's, not to forget the unbelievable price tag.

I am eagerly waiting for Tuareg 457 (unless KTM bring something is parallel twin space)

Including the ZX but not the T4 is an oversight in my opinion.

T4 is a markedly different bike from the Speed 400, and in some ways it is the better powertrain

May not feel like it, but the updated ZX-6R was launched in the market after ~4 years of discontinuation of the earlier version.

Voted for 890 Adventure R

KTM big bikes were missing from our country for a long time and I appreciate them finally bringing it. I like hardcore ADVs which mean business. A close second would be the BSA Goldstar. I thoroughly dislike the 1300 GS front design so no votes there.

Voted for the Bajaj Freedom 125. Innovation done in the most popular segment and being sold at an accessible cost has big impact.
This will be a boon for gig workers and a lot of hard working people for whom running costs are a big factor. It also has a lower emissions without adding planning like battery charging.
