Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

Bikewale has mentioned that the bike is launched. ₹2.08L. only a thousand costlier than outgoing model. Sounds too good. Hopefully it will be a good one.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

IMO Enfield should make a retro bike with this 440cc engine to compete with Harley/hero 440 and fill the vaccum b/w their 350cc & 650cc.

A new model apart from Bullet & Classic brand. There are many European styles from 50s and 60s that can be emulated.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

I feel RE is getting to a point wherein they have too many products that are confusing to potential buyers, not suggesting that the Scram 440 doesn't have a market ( I am sure RE has done their research), my complain is just about the number of bikes and variants.

On the positive side, the design team has been doing a cracking job with the paint schemes ( ably supported by the factory for delivering it), purely from a paint and finish point of view, the RE bikes are second to none ( at least in India ). This alone has transformed RE from the brand as we have known in the past, into one that is on the mind of every person looking to make a purchase in this segment.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

In a world where the RE 452cc Himalayan didn't exist, this would've been the go-to choice for many budding adventurers/tourers. But given that the 452 offers SO much more for a not-so-unreasonable price increment, this is still a bit of a hard-sell. This is especially when lighter/simpler products like the XPulse 210 are upping their game.

This should've been part of the Himalayan 411 refresh in 2021/22. A bit too late to the game, but a welcome change for sure.

Could be the other way around, as per rumours. The 450 was so different from the 411 it replaced - and even though it appealled to a lot many more users, some still liked the easy going feel and ergonomics of the old Himalayan. As some have mentioned earlier on this thread, and from my experience talking to enthusiasts - there are a few who feel that the older Himalayan fit them to the T.

The Scram 440, essentially brings a choice back to those loyalists - while being slightly more updated for the modern highways. For everyone else - there is the Himalayan and the Guerrilla 450 anyways.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

I simply do not understand why RE puts out so many products. From a business standpoint, yes it is self-explanatory. But to a layman such as myself, the myriad of motorcycles from their stable is just flabbergasting. I have existed on this planet while only being faintly aware and frankly being confused by all their scramblers, guerillas, scrams etc.

I had to research what this animal called the Scram 411/Scram 440 is, what sets it apart from their other bikes and how they re-bored its old engine to create this one.

Now, having rubbed all the ignorance out of my eyes, I'll actually proceed to test ride one sometime soon. It seems to be an interesting one. I've test ridden the Honda CB350s recently and somehow walked away feeling a tiny bit dissatisfied.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

I have a feeling like RE is making new vehicles on customer feedback rather than fixing the problems of the current vehicle.

For example, RE Himalayalan 411 was so good at off-roading and it was comfortable but it wasn't really fast. We got the new Himalayan 450. That motorbike was so good on highways too but the low end torque was missing that we've seen in the 411. So they came up with this scram 440.

The same thing kind of happened for Inty 650, isn't it? The bear 650 is an Inty 650 with a better suspension. Now they could have given the Inty 650 a better suspension but then it'd be a harder suspension and not plush like INT 650. They could have removed the analogue speedometer and tachometer with a modern digital dial but then again there are people like me who really love analogue speedometer and tachometer and even spoke wheels(Want it tubeless).

This strategy in my opinion isn't the best but may be as the line up advances and when they get enough data, RE will be able to make complete bike - one that can replace every motorbikes and then they'd refine it as much as they can for the rest of the time. Sort of like the Triumph T 100 or something.

Truth to be told, as a die hard RE fan, I don't really know the names of all RE motorbikes now.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

I had loved the 411 engine on old Himalayan on my Ladakh trip. Since this 440 engine is based on the old engine and now has a 6th gear, it should be a smooth ride even at 100 kmph and should also retain the low end torque of the old engine. Alloy wheel is a plus point too. A truly value for money product.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

Awaiting the reviews eagerly, this could be the one bike that does it all. Good low-end punch for city rides and tall 6th gear for the highways, combined with a simple old-school long stroke air/oil-cooled engine.

Wish they had launched this last year before I bought the Bullet. The overall package at Rs.2.7L OTR is too tempting.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

Though I agree RE has been rampantly increasing its lineup but this bike in particular seems to be decent proposition, especially for the long stroke (& low end torque) aficionados! The 411 LS engine had its charm but many found it vibey at 100 kmph and the lack of 6th gear made it only worse. The slight increase in cubic capacity, power and torque along with the addition of 6th gear should make 100 kmph cruise on the highway better and the suspension should also be comfortable (going by the 411 Scram) which isn’t something we can take for granted from the new crop of RE motorcycles
And did I say, the green with white colourway looks so retro and nice with the spoke wheels

The price difference between Scram 440 and himalayan 450 is lot. It's a welcome move by RE for customers looking for affordable touring motorcycle.

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

Wondering why no big content creators making reviews of this bike. Came across a highway ride video and apparently, the engine is smooth till 110 kmph and has a top speed of 130 kmph (both speedo indicated)

Re: Royal Enfield Scram 440 unveiled

Have been following this launch for quite sometime. And as the release was quite, so are the reviews that are flowing in. One probable reason for the same might be is, not all showrooms have received the bikes yet. I am eagerly looking forward to see the bike in my nearest showroom to have a test ride and its not yet available.

But from initial reviews that are going around, the bike is quite good. One bike to do all things and not everything . Can be a good starting point for someone who is stepping into the touring world and is venturing out to have one bike, for city us, touring and light off road. This is a perfect bike. With 6th gear being added one can happily cruise at 100KMPH for long tours, long stroke which produces that good amount of torque at low revs.
