That’s true. As I said, it was indeed shocking to me such a problem occurred this early. To me personally, It hurt me a lot since there is a deep emotional connection with this bike so each day without the bike felt like a week. But I guess this should be a rare issue since I haven’t heard of another R3 facing a problem like this. So I guess it’s just my bad luck that it happened to me. I have ridden 300+ km after taking the bike back after the fix, so far all seems well. I even tried switching the engine off at traffic lights twice or thrice when the wait is greater than a minute just to be sure myself. No cause for concern so far. Hope it stays that way without anymore visits to the service center except for periodic servicing/oil change for the foreseeable future. Let’s see.

I don't think it is that uncommon on R3s. A simple search bring up a lot of cases internationally.

This is a current gen R3 for example.

2,500 km Update & First BHPian Meet, Breakfast Ride:

Following the stator coil issue, and a family trip to Jaipur to round of 2024, the bike is back to regular daily use. Having crossed 1,600 km (end of run-in period), I was finally able to unleash the beautiful parallel twin motor to breach the 7.5k RPM oon weekend rides, without thinking twice when the road conditions allowed me to. Goosebumps indeed! The way the power climbs up as you move up the rev band is so sweetly delivered. All the memories from the bitter expereince of the stator coil episode vanished and I hope it stays that way from here on. The rev-matching is such a pure and mechanical experience and way the engine responds to your inputs, you need to feel it to believe it.

Crossed 2k on New Year's Eve

Last Click of 2024

Heat management has improved a lot. I rode the bike with my dad as pillion on New Year's day evening. Navigating through narrow streets, more diversions than you can count, apart from a slightly higher turning radius, it was very manageable and nimble to handle. To me this is one of the best "single bike garage" bikes if it weren't for the steep price if you are looking for a sports bike as a daily. I used to follow the same routine on my R15 earlier which had a much more committed posture. This strikes the perfect balance. I rode my brother's R15 recently and now I can see how committed it was after having gotten used to the R3.

Apart from regular use, I also got a chance to get in touch face to face with fellow BHPian and 2024 R3 rider - @V.Max on 4th Jan 2025. He is the guy who added the catalyst for me to get the R3. We planned a small ride to Muduliyarkuppam (MDK) on the ECR, a popular destination for bikers in Chennai. It was indeed surreal to watch two 2024 R3s beside each other. A sight I feel is rarer than spotting a ZX10R or a Z900. All geared up, we had a small stop at Mahabs for break-fast and carried on. Since we had chosen a Saturday, there was hardly any crowd of high-end bikes/cars, something that is abundant on a Sunday here.

After Mahabs, towards Pondy, the road has almost invisible speed-breakers/bumps. No markers, nothing. It is indeed a safety hazard and its something that really should be taken care of by the authorities. One should really need to fully focus on this stretch. This is of course a proper test of the R3's suspension and stability. I am glad to say, it exceeded expectations. There are a couple of times when I did cross a bump or two at good speeds due to me not spotting it clearly. While I was indeed slightly thrown a little out of my seat for less than a second, no where did I felt the bike losing control on front or the rear end. Suspension is nicely tuned and it does indeed prove the R3's friendly and forgiving nature. Feast your eyes on these two beauties! Trust me, in the flesh especially, this is so much better looking than all the critics claiming the design is outdated. Its timeless!

As @V.Max says, R3 + R3 = R6 ?

We arrived at the location, took some pictures, and left. I would like to thank @V.Max for joining me. I am sure, we will go on longer trips soon!

Until then,

Ride Safe!

Nice little write-up man. I should have probably ridden your bike a bit since you use the RS4GP oil, while I use the Yamalube R15 oil. It'd have helped me identify the difference in refinement.
Not complaining about that in my bike. Its nice. But you use a costlier oil. Soo....Anyway,
We need to plan a longer trip and let the engine sing higher notes. Has to be a 2000 kms trip atleast. Lets gooooo

Guys Yamaha just gave it's R3/Mt03 siblings a permanent discount of 1.1lakh from Feb1.
Feeling really sad for the guys who bought them earlier!

Frankly, I am quite happy about the price-cut. When I bought the bike in Oct 2024, I knew this was a possibility. I am really glad that, more 2024 R3 owners will emerge now. Pricing was its only Achilles heel and not that is also solved (until the stocks last). Hope to see more R3 owners here

Don't be upset. You still have gotten a bullet-proof, phenomenal and proven machine that is so good at being an all-rounder. I believe you too bought it with your instincts going with your heart over the head. Stick with it.

To me experiencing this machine out-weighs everything. No regrets, only the urge ride more with a smile! As most people say, motorcycles are always heart over the head. To me, my R3 is priceless. End of story.

Hope to see more people experience this beautiful machine.

I am very happy with the bike and as long term Yamaha user (11 year old FZ) feel there is nothing wrong with the bike itself. The fact that Yamaha is doing this to people who are loyal to their brand is what angers me. There should be more transparency especially when this is not a mass production bike. Just going to enjoy the bike but it will pinch once in a while that I lost money being loyal to Yamaha.

Wonderfully described. I think once the bike is home there is no need to worry about anything regarding the price. Once the riding starts the price paid is the last thing on the mind.

Were you able to take advantage of the 1.1L discount that Yamaha announced?

I effectively got it for around 4.90L in Oct 2024.

Great thread, i am considering getting an R3. The price cut is an added bonus.
I had a question regarding e20 compatibility. Have you done any research on whether the engine could be affected by the ethanol blending?

Frankly, I too get a bit paranoid about this sometimes. My office commute route has three shell petrol bunks so most of the time, I fill at Shell only. In other petrol bunks, I think Speed/XP-95 will be the way to go.

I was under the impression that the xp95 would also be e 20 blended.

Sorry to ad to your worries. Btw, if it helps i read somewhere that ethanol blending has been going on for ages in some countries like brazil and the side effects are minimal.(not sure of how true this is, i have to fact check this)

I think, the BS6 vehicles might be lesser impacted compared to BS3/BS4. Just assumption, not a fact. But eventually, when you combine YOLO and FOMO, and well as you have read my review, it just outweighs everything.
