Brixton Motorcycles opens bookings in India; Launch in November

In April this year, Austria-based Brixton Motorcycles announced its entry into the Indian market. Now, the company has announced the commencement of bookings for the four models it plans to launch in November. Customers can place their orders by paying a token amount of Rs 2,999.

Brixton will foray into the Indian market with KAW Veloce Motors Pvt. Ltd. The motorcycles will be manufactured at a new facility based in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Brixton will offer its Crossfire and Cromwell range of bikes in India. The Crossfire 500X and Crossfire 500XC are powered by a 500cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 46 BHP and 43 Nm. The Cromwell 1200 and Cromwell 1200X use a larger 1,200cc, twin-cylinder unit that makes 82 BHP and 108 Nm.

Brixton Motorcycles will be initially available in 13 cities, including Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi and Panjim. The company had earlier said it plans to open 15 dealerships by the end of 2024 and expand its network to 50 by next year.

I quite like this green colour scheme but considering it is a Chinese alternative to the Triumph 1200s, I'm not sure of how it will be perceived here in India.

While I like the clean lines, I wonder about the pricing and the reliability.

I'd be more convinced if I knew the underpinnings were Chinese or Korean, wrapped around an attractive European design.

Fingers crossed!

After sales support and service are the concern.

What I understand is that its a Austrian family business BUT are manufactured in China by Gaokin Moto.

So would that make it Chinese or would it make them more vulnerable to a Chinese takeover? Some of the products are on sale in China. While I understand the difficulty to manufacture in Europe and costs etc, something does not sit well when manufacturing is in China!

Srini

Srini, I'll gladly pick up a Chinese-built motorcycle. I'm all for the best. I don't want to carry the prejudice of which country must succeed or fail in being the best in any field of industry.

Many of the European and American marques wouldn't have a market for their goods if it wasn't for China.

So, I'm agnostic about the brand, as long as the output ranks amongst the best.

Case in point: Triumph Speed 400!

As long as Bajaj builds it, I'll gladly buy it.

Will I buy the HD 440? No! I'm not a fan of the brand or the manufacturer.

Just my two cents.

Cheers!

I don't recollect seeing a bike with the drive chain on the right side! Are there any?

Also, the frame is visible beneath the seat, which itself appears pretty thin.

Is this 1200cc to be slotted the in retro or superbike slot? Owners in this category are pretty much involved with their bikes, and will the tactic of trying to appeal to the buyers in both categories work?

The newer Speed 400 has it on the right side.

Would that make it the most powerful motorcycle to be manufactured in India? I believe all other superbikes and large displacement motorcycles are CKD and aren't actually manufactured here.

I'm sure these Brixton's will be CKD as well. I know it says "manufactured" in the article but Brixton doesn't really have a reason to move production from China to India.

There is almost a zero percentage chance these bikes are actually manufactured here. They will be assembled in Kholapur. This isn't like Moto Morini where the bikes are assembled in Italy with only the engine imported from China.

I don't get your point, you reply that you're agnostic about the brand yet you say that you won't buy the HD 440 because you don't like the brand?

The x440 is the least 'Harley' Harley as its manufactured and developed by Hero. It's 90% Hero and 10% Harley.

Re: Brixton Motorcycles opens bookings in India; Launch in November

A bold and interesting choice for the market here. Although the 500 is overpriced, it basically produces the A2 power figures and will have almost no takers at that price. I'm more curious about the 1200. So, a 1200cc engine with 82 bhp and 100+Nm of torque, all with a weight close to the Shotgun, at a price of 7.9 lakhs ex-showroom? This should perk up your ears!

I'm always supportive whenever a new entrant arrives. Hope it doesn't become another lost brand.

Edit - It also gets Bosch traction and cruise control. KYB suspension. Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres. 270° parallel twin. Well specced indeed.

Re: Brixton Motorcycles opens bookings in India; Launch in November

On paper, the Cromwell 1200 seems to be the one to go for based on pricing. But why are manufacturers going back to spoke wheels?! It's just impractical nowadays. Would the same idea hold good for cars? It won't.
Also, the right side engine casing and covers seem out of place. Especially the slotted cover bit.
