DIY: Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount with Wireless Charging & Vibration Dampener

Quadlock

As a smart phone mounting system, Quadlock has become quite popular over the past few years. When I ordered my Bullet, I decided to go for a suitable smart phone mount that I can fix onto the handlebar near to the USB charging port near the clutch lever.

Quadlock does have numerous mounting options though, and it is unlikely that you will not find one that suits your needs. I picked and chose the items and ordered them from Quadlock Japan. But they do have a Quadlock Asia store as well from where they ship to anywhere in Asia.

Likes:
  • Premium build quality
  • Ease of fitment and ease of use
  • Modular & interchangeable parts
  • Chrome finish accessories are lovely and suit classic / retro motorcycles better
  • Wireless charging is convenient and fast enough for touring
  • No need to fumble around in the dark for charging cables, especially with gloves on
  • Vibration dampener is essential if your motorcycle is vibey, especially if your phone comes with an image stabilizer
  • No tools needed other than a standard allen key that comes in the box
  • The case is solid and offers good protection. There is an optional pouch available for rain protection.
  • Handlebar mount comes with adapters for almost every size of handlebar
  • Wireless charging head is weatherproof, essential for outdoor applications
  • Vibration dampener works well. While idling on my single cylinder 350, I can see the phone shaking. While riding, it is really stable.

Dislikes:
  • Depending on the options one chooses, it can get quite expensive
  • Wireless charging head is bulky and so ugly that it can act as the kaala teeka on your beautiful motorcycle
  • Once you invest into the Quadlock ecosystem, you are pretty much stuck with their cases
  • Regular wireless chargers may or may not work with the Quadlock case, depending on your luck

Fitment:

Each component fits onto the other with allen key bolts and splines. Adjusting and fixing the orientation is easy and precise. The CNC machined components feel solid and built-to-last. The fitment itself is really easy. I believe the pictures self explanatory. More than happy to answer any questions.

This is a nice phone holder for a bike.

Maybe off topic but i feel Iphone's (specially pro versions) shouldnt be used to mount on bikes. Vibrations from the bike leads to the iPhone camera's inbuilt image stabilizer getting affected and it reduces the image stabilization over a period of time leading to poor quality pictures. Instead, better to get a cheaper Android in the range of 10k INR if it is to be used only for navigation purpose. That way even if it gets stolen, wont be a big loss.

That's where the vibration dampener comes in. It's specifically built to isolate the camera's OIS from the vibrations.
I have a Bobo phone mount (BM1 Pro) without the dampener and use a vanilla S24 as a daily. I ride a CB300R, which is a relatively vibe-free. But one of the weekend rides, I casually placed my palm on the phone while going a stress-free 90 km/h and was pretty buzzed by the high frequency vibrations that the phone has to go through. Since that day I am actively looking for some sort of a dampener, either between the handlebar and the mount, or between the phone and mount (unlikely due to fit) that could help me alleviate this stress that I've bestowed upon myself :-D
Having said that, I did use an S10+ on a 'X-holder' for a good 4 years on an RTR200, without any noticeable difference in the phone. So, I'm not really sure if high frequency (low amplitude) vibes are something to worry about.
Thoughts?

I use a combination of the Bobo BM17 with vibration dampener (about 2600 INR) with a Spigen Tough Armour case (about 1600 INR) that comes with additional foam protection for my Samsung S23- works well together on my Speed 400. No issues so far. My motto is better safe than sorry, especially with a big ticket purchase (relatively speaking) like a premium smartphone.

Re: DIY: Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount with Wireless Charging & Vibration Dampener

Been using a Quadlock Pro with the vibration damper for about a year now. Works excellent so far, iPhone camera is still intact despite a bit of the offroading I've thrown at it so far.

I haven't gotten around to getting the charging head as I wanted to get the one that connects directly the battery with the ignition relay as its more weatherproof than the USB charger. But before I do that I need to get a relay kit that saves the battery and allows accessories like this to be connected safely without damaging the electrical circuit or the battery.

The chrome mounts are something new, I hadn't seen them earlier! Its a great option for folks who have such bikes.

Glad to know the vibration dampener works for the iPhone! Thank you for your feedback.

The chrome mounts are a recent addition to the lineup.

By any chance, is this what you need?

No, I need to get the wired (not USB) charging head from Quadlock.

And, that needs to get attached to distribution module (like this) that makes it not only cleaner to install accessories, but saves the battery and electricals.

Have been using an Iphone 15 with the quadlock setup with vibration dampers for couple of months (Including off roads) on a Himalayan 450. Camera has had no issue so far. Have also used the setup on an Iphone 11 earlier and that too was fine.

Re: DIY: Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount with Wireless Charging & Vibration Dampener

Happy to report that Quadlock also honoured their two year warranty without any complaints. My quadlock case broke while removing the phone from the case for a periodic cleanup of my phone.

As you can see there was a breakage in the internal structure of the case. I raised a support case with them providing all the details and they promptly received a new replacement case within around 2 weeks of raising the support ticket.

For information, my Quadlock case was around 18 months old when this happened.

Re: DIY: Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount with Wireless Charging & Vibration Dampener

I use a Bobo mobile phone mount on my honda highness cb350 (below product) -

https://www.bobogears.com/product/ja...-mobile-mount/

I had a Samsung Galaxy s20 FE which lost its image quality drastically after mounting it on the bike for almost 6-9 months. But at the same time, I am using a kind of broken Galaxy Note 9 for years on the same bike and same mount, and there are no image quality issues.
For S20 FE, I attributed it to handlebar vibrations spoiling the camera OIS but the Note 9 experience just leaves me confused.

No specific inputs as such but an experience I wanted to share here.
