Hero MotoCorp raises Rs 8.6 crore via Centennial CE100 auction | One bike sells for 20 lakh rupees!

Hero MotoCorp has announced that it has raised Rs 8.58 crore by selling 75 units of the limited edition Centennial CE100 bike via auction. The highest bid received for one of the units was Rs 20.30 lakh!

The Centennial Edition was launched to celebrate the 101st birth anniversary of the late Dr Brijmohan Lall Munjal. The money raised from the auction will be donated to charity. The remaining 25 units will be part of a giveaway for employees.

The Centennial Edition features a sporty semi-faired design. It is finished in a dual-tone colour scheme of grey and black, along with a few carbon fibre elements, while the frame is painted in metallic red. Even the front fork, rear swingarm, and crankcase are finished in the same shade of red.

The Centennial Edition is powered by the same 210cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the Karizma XMR. It is mated with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

The bike features an upside-down front fork and a monoshock at the rear. It has disc brakes at both ends and even gets an Akrapovic exhaust.

That's a good-looking bike, but who would pay 20 lakhs for a motorcycle with a 210 cc Karizma XMR engine? Maybe one of the large Hero dealerships or a relative IMHO.

I respect Hero MotoCorp, but a limited edition CE100 . Really?

Feels very shady that anyone would pay so much for a regular bike decked up in carbon fibre bodywork. Not even the rare cbr250rr or zx25r 4 cylinder bikes would go for half of that if auctioned today.

I understand the charity part, and that is great. But still the price is too much!

On other hand, the XMR is not selling much, they should launch a Karizma R based on this CE100 bike with the USDs, swingarm and exhaust. Might add some numbers.

This wannabe, Karol Bagh decked up Street Triple 210 looks overpriced AF! . Would like to see who these 75 were, please. Extremely shady!

We as a society seem so inured to corruption and monetary value that even what could be a charitable action invites suspicion.

I choose to believe that the ones who bid high numbers for this bike chose to do it out of the kindness of their hearts rather than any shady reasons. As for value, I am sure that people who can afford to make such gestures of goodwill don't buy the bikes because they are VFM!

Such giants, such money and towards the end, can't get one decent multicylinder or high capacity bike.

There's so much of a gap in the Indian motorcycling scene.

A 650cc high performance single cylinder is missing (its possible).
A multicylinder low capacity for a decent sub 6L price is missing. ZX4RR is beyond most of us, we'll be kicked out'ta house if we asked for one using ancestral money.

And yet, they had to modify a Karizma with carbon fiber as if the weight saving will be noted anyways. :(
Is money really a problem here for them? They have the perfect commuter bike base to support their activity.

And what's with service fears anyways? Even a touring truck across Indian highways can service high capacity machines easily.
