Triumph to launch new Speed 400 variant on September 17

Triumph India is all set to launch a new bike on September 17. The new model is expected to be a more affordable variant of the Speed 400.

The teaser released by Triumph shows a teardrop-shaped fuel tank with a red and white livery and a flat seat. It also gives us a glimpse of the engine, which is the same unit that powers the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X.

The 398cc, single-cylinder engine puts out 39.5 BHP and 37.5 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. While the engine specs are likely to remain unchanged, we could see some cost-saving measures being adopted elsewhere.

Triumph would be hoping to boost sales this festive season with the launch of a more affordable Speed 400.

A more affordable Speed 400 ? It is already priced very well even without the 10k discount.
I was expecting (am also predicting) this new model to be the Thruxton 400. Same engine, same frame. Just a Speed 400 with clip ons and Front headlight fairing. That is the only new 400cc model from Triumph which was spied few months ago. If it is indeed Thruxton 400, it definitely will cost little above Speed400. Exciting news either way.

Yes, possibly the new Thruxton based on same body with few customisations and engine tweaks. I can’t understand what could they customise to make an affordable speed 400. It’s possibly the Thruxton.

I can only imagine this to be a Thruxton. A very long time ago during the initial launch days, I recall this being indicated as the possible third iteration of the 400 family.

When will we see a nice laid-back cruiser in this family? Not a good idea with the same engine?

Not sure about the engine part but the Cruiser format has its inherent disadvantages for our Indian road conditions, namely stiff (short travel) rear suspension.
Also I feel that this format is kind of a niche and not a mass market demand here in India.

IMO they should go for a fully faired sports bike iteration after this Thruxton / Cafe Racer one.

I think bringing out the Tiger 400 would be a smart choice. The Himalayan 450 has practically no competition in its class and price range. The next gen KTM 390 Adventure would only be more expensive than the outgoing model.

It would be a perfect alternative for people who were interested in the Himalayan but backed out because of its (lack of) refinement, heft, and tubed tyres.

I wonder if that Thruxton bubble visor/bikini fairing can be retrofitted (no pun intended) to the Speed. The aftermarket wind protection visor from Carbon Racing looks quite ungainly, and the stock visor does absolutely nothing.

Hey Guys

Small teaser I would like to give right here !

This bike may just be the Speed 250 , YES, I didnt make a mistake, thats right! There is a Speed 250 and more models like the Scrambler/Thruxton/Bobber/Speedmaster 400/250 on the way!

P.S Source Verified There is a 250cc on the works as I used to work there myself ! (Similar to how the Triumph Engineered the 400cc from You.Know.Who)

Re: Triumph to launch new Speed 400 variant on September 17

If we go by what this bike is most similar to, it's the Speed Triple 1200 RR. So I'd say this is a Speed 400 RR. There's no chance they'll call this a Thruxton just after retiring the moniker for the moment. The tank has to be different, just as it was with the Bonneville and the Thruxton.

Thank you for sharing. This aligns with the reports of this being the "more affordable" variant. Additionally, I remember there being 'Scoop articles' about an option for the 'Speed 250' on the Triumph website soon after the Speed 400 was launched.
P.S:- The Speedmaster 400 would be a lovely motorcycle. There's barely any cruisers apart from the Avenger and Super Meteor. Meteor 350 doesn't fit the "long, low cruiser image".

You're on to something there!

I found this report from last year: https://www.rushlane.com/triumph-scr...-12473845.html

Re: Triumph to launch new Speed 400 variant on September 17

I am just hoping its a Thruxton 400. I like the sweet growl of the Speed 400.
A Thrux should be a right fit in this segment. Also, note the tag line says, another classic. So I believe this would not be a toned down version of an existing model but should be an altogether new addition to the 400 family. And nothing is as classic as a Thruxton in the entire Triumph Lineup. Fingers Crossed.

Triumph India should really look into their existing business and with markets like India, they must develop motorcycles which first help build a relationship with a customer and then push on the bigger machines like the Tigers, Rockets, Triples and so on .

The 400cc is what is setting the scene on fire right now. However now that we see the new Speed T4 launched at that pricing. We can only see that the 250's will change the entire 200-400cc market and with Triumph bringing in more models similar to how RE uses 2/3 of their engines to bring out around 20+ motorcycles this decade with many more models to come.

Sweet growl? Really? That sweet growl scares me all the time.
