Re: Fantasy Bike Builds - Design your dream motorcycle

RE Interceptor Touring Scrambler Build: This will be an extensive rework of most of the dynamics of the Interceptor, so I think it will stay a fantasy build for the sheer cost of it all. Not to mention that the Bear 650 will have some of the mods that I want. But if I'm lucky enough to get it all done on an Interceptor, this is what I'd have:

1. Those twin exhausts have to go,and be replaced by a two-in-one system. They look and sound beautiful, but they're much too heavy to bother with off-road and we can get a much lighter motorcycle with them gone. The Bear 650 does have a two-in-one system, and I'll take that if and when it's available, mainly because I don't want to lose the catalytic converters. But in the meantime, I'll have the SS Motocorp two-in-one full system replacement for a cool 25k. And that automatically means SS crash guards as well. All in all, I'd cut a good 13 kilos off the bike, giving me a 200-kilo Interceptor.

2. The front wheel has to become a 19-incher, and a rim and spoke change will do the trick just fine, along with a tubeless conversion kit. But I'd like to go further and try to fit a Super Meteor front wheel to the Interceptor. Given that they use different suspensions, maybe the hubs are different, but I think it's worth a shot. The tyres of course will change too, probably to Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs front and back.

3. The rear wheel I could still live with the 18-incher, but I want to try using the Hunter's 17-inch rear. If that fails to fit, I'd rather just change the rims and the spokes with a tubeless conversion.

4. The handlebars will get 2-inch risers and new cables to match, and maybe the Protaper handlebar as well would be a good idea. The light's I'd change to the Vaishnu touring lights, and an aux light from Mad Dog or the like, mounted on the crash guards.

5. Aftermarket bash plate is a must.

6. I'd have Trip Machine's seat as well, it's pretty good for longer rides I hear.

7. The front and rear suspensions I'd upgrade, but not with the usual YSS upgrade kits. As this is a fantasy build, I'd opt for the Ohlins upgrades, with the FSK 145 front fork spring upgrade kit and the RE 912 rear shock, which can help me raise the seat height to a good 820-830 mm.

8. Finally, the Easy Clutch and Fuel Xpro will have their place in making the bike easier to live with. The toal bill now comes due in excess of a lakh and a half, if I'm not wrong.

All in all, I think I'd have a leaner, meaner, and much more aggressive Interceptor Scrambler build than is usual.

This is a bike I want to buy because it reminds me of the RD350.

Bikes I would love to see:

- Yamaha RD350 look with a 4 stroke 650-850 parallel twin to rival the Interceptor.

- Himalayan with a Sherpa 900 (twin cylinder version of the current Sherpa)

- Bullet Standard with the 650 from the Interceptor or the Sherpa 450 from the Himalayan.

- RE should resurrect the Zundapp brand with a modern version of the Fury. The Sherpa 450 could do duty here.

Re: Fantasy Bike Builds - Design your dream motorcycle

6. RE Hunter 350 Scrambler Build

With the underwhelming launch of the Interceptor Bear 650, I thought I'd put up a dream 350 cc scrambler build. The joke with this is that the Classic/Bullet have always been India's OG off-road/Ladakh ride bikes, so I thought I'd take the platform and see f anything can be done with it further.

1. The suspension! Fully adjustable, extra-travel Hagon refits for both front and rear, especially for the shocks in the back. The travel is somewhat ok, but the rest needs replacement ASAP.

2. Wheels! The rear is perfectly fine at 17", but the front has got to be replaced. In comes the Meteor's 19" front, complete with ABS ring, sensor and the tyres at both replaced with something much more off road-friendly.

3. Handlebar risers and a Protaper or similar, stronger handlebar, along with Trip Machine grips and handguards to match.

4. From the RE MIY catalogue, I'd get the brown pleated seat cover, the sump guard, the flyscreen and the compact crash guards.

5. In the interest of cutting weight, the saree guard and the rear footpegs can go too. I'd try to get a final weight below 175, given that the original bike weighs about 181 in the Metro variant.

6. Since this is an RE and the parts will be cheap, I'd put in a lithium battery and replace electricals if it fries anything.

7. The rear sprocket can come down by 3 teeth, just to give it an extra mule-kick like feeling. I'll happily put away whatever extra highway performance it has for a more off-road bias.

8. If possible, try to fit the Scram 411's console and ABS chip, just for ABS adjustability, along with the switch cube as required.

9. Finally, I'd add the FuelX Pro and the Easy Clutch from Powertronic, because the stock ones are just too damn hard and finessing is pretty difficult.

Re: Fantasy Bike Builds - Design your dream motorcycle

RE 650 like Twin Engine, Classic 350 Ergonomics and Comfortable Suspension, Triumph Street 400 finish levels, Working Lights (don't care much about LED's), Alloys or Cross-spoke wheels with Tubeless Tires (else its a deal breaker), <180kg wet weight and once a year service preferably. Pillion friendly and Cost between 3-4L on Road (Bangalore).

The closest I have found so far is the Guerilla 450 (of course not twin cylinder, but good power on demand).

What other bikes meet these criteria? Aprillia Raider 457?

Well, actually the new KTM 390 Adventure might just hit most of the marks there, but maybe not on price.

Re: Fantasy Bike Builds - Design your dream motorcycle

For me - 2 builds come to mind.

For the first - Ill raid the Honda parts bin and build the following.

Stunner/Ignitor single downtube chassis, shoehorn the B-E-A-Utiful 223 Karizma mill from the late model ZMR, monoshock, USD forks, brakes and swingarm from the Hornet 200 and a matteblack body/fluoro yellow pinstriping...

The second one is also similar - Raid the Bajaj parts bin and build below..

Discover 135 chassis and bodywork, Pulsar 220 running gear(motor, suspension, brakes and swingarm)
