Royal Enfield patents its first electric motorcycle

Royal Enfield has filed a design patent for its first-ever electric motorcycle. It is expected to debut by the end of this year.

Looking at the patent image, it seems Royal Enfield has retained some of the design elements of the Electrik01 concept. The neo-retro design features an exposed frame with a single seat, wide handlebars and a circular headlamp.

The production version is also likely to feature girder forks, first seen on bikes in the 1920s. The Electrik01 concept also had a similar suspension setup.

Technical details of Royal Enfield’s first electric bike are still under wraps. However, it appears that the battery will sit between the tubular frame and the electric motor could transfer power to the rear wheel via a belt drive.

Re: Royal Enfield patents its first electric motorcycle

To me it looks neat, carries forward the modern classic theme of the Royal Enfield legacy. That suspension setup in the front is interesting, visually reminds of front suspension setup from vintage BSA and Norton's of 1940's & 50's.
Can someone explain what exactly is the front suspension setup, as haven't seen this kind of thing in modern bikes.

On another note, I am loving the way Royal Enfield is evolving from a product range and variety point of view.

Re: Royal Enfield patents its first electric motorcycle

Is this different from the video from last year. This design has been around for more than a year now.

Personally, looks apart, I wouldnt like RE in electric avatar if it can not tour. The range will make or break this model.
In the video the reviewer says it has a range of 90kms. Then, look at the size of battery storage unit, must be much more.
The tank will be utilised for all the electronics. Below it is battery and then the motor.

They did pull of a retro modern look, but the battery compartment could have been better. Like Ola has make a banana shaped batter unit, RE can also play with better design to suit. May be the triangular shape in the patent picture is what it is.
