Which gearless scooter for me? Access 125 Vs Activa 110 Vs Jupiter 125 Vs Dio 110

In the market for a gearless scooter and after going through reviews of BS6 scooters, I've realised that I have massively underestimated the selection process.

My typical usage is about 200km/month (about 6-7km/day).

My requirements, in order of priority are:
1. On road budget upto 1.10L max
2. Reliability and hassle free ownership
3. Ride quality
4. Fuel efficiency
5. Storage space
6. Service support

Not particular about power, cubic capacity, resale, etc.

I had shortlisted, in order of preference:
1. Access 125
2. Activa 110
3. Jupiter 125
4. Dio 110

I've excluded Yamaha Ray-ZR as I feel it's design suits better a target audience way younger than I am.

From the reviews I've watched, looks like every scooter shortlisted above was relatively reliable in their pre BS6 avatars, but all of them seem to have reliability issues (mostly starting and missing issues) in their BS6 forms. Is that really the case with BS6 scooters?

People who own/use BS6 scooters, how has your experience been, and what would you suggest for my requirements

re: Which gearless scooter for me? Access 125 Vs Activa 110 Vs Jupiter 125 Vs Dio 110

I haven't heard any particular problem in bs6 scooters, perhaps they got smoother!

I will recommend following:
Retro: Access 125 - new dual tone looks good
Big: Burgman 125 - large enough for man, but not updated since eternity
Big: Jupiter 125 - new one looks nice but I haven't tested it
Slim: Activa 125 - really nice with keyless entry, very smooth engine
Suzuki Avenis 125 - Smaller version of Burgman.

Check your requirements, whether you need big carrying capacity or can do with a small one. Top suggestion will be Burgman or Activa 125 keyless entry version.

Hero xoom 125 is supposed to launch soon. With big tyres of 14 inch, it should have better riding thhan most existing scooters.

re: Which gearless scooter for me? Access 125 Vs Activa 110 Vs Jupiter 125 Vs Dio 110

As an owner of the latest Activa 125 and the Access 125, I'll stongly recommend the latter
- more powerful engine (I've felt it when I take a pillion and kids)
- feels sturdier (The mechanism to open the under-seat feels sturdier and the front hook feels sturdier too)
- bigger seat and floor board.
- absolutely problem free

This may be unpopular but I recommend the version WITHOUT keyless entry, touchscreen and front discs. In my opinion, scooters need to be reliable and these so called "value adds" may not work great after several years. I'm also against front disc brakes for scooters because its more dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users and is frankly not needed.

I am also looking out for a scooter and thinking of electric one. My usage is low and it will be at my native place that I visit for few days every month. The current 12 year old bs-3 scooter I have has lots of starting problems after being parked for a month.

How do electric scooters fare when they are used infrequently like after 3-4 weeks? Will they start quickly without issues? Will there be any impact on battery if left unused for 3-4 weeks at a time?

Your use case absolutely does not warrant an EV. Less use at native place where regular use or servicing can be in question is a recipe for a possible disaster. IMHO, buy EV only if running is substantial and you have service centers nearby. Because no regular mechanic will touch it incase something happens. Not worth the hassle.

Low usage or high usage, I would suggest you go for an EV, there are a lot of options under 1.10 lakhs on-road Bangalore, a few of them are:

1. OLA S1 X
If you are sure you will not need it for longer runs, the 2 kW variant would suffice, else the 3 kWh variant would be the better option, if you want maximum range, the 4 kWh variant would be the way to go, However when going for Ola, don't expect build quality and fit and finish, panel gaps are the norm and Ola is only an option for those who want to get from point A to point B and don't care much about aesthetics. Prices on-road Bangalore for the variants are 4kWh: Rs.1,12,000 (approx), 3kWh: Rs.97.000 (approx), 2kWh: Rs.87,000 (approx)

2. TVS iQube 2.2 kWh
The recently launched TVS iQube 2.2 kWh with 75 km of range costs Rs.95,000 ex-showroom and should fall within your budget on-road as well. The iQube has the typical scooter look and doesn't stand apart from the crowd either, it has 32-litre under-seat storage and is a practical family-oriented scooter worth considering.

3. Hero Vida V1 Plus 3.44 kWh
The Vida V1 Plus comes at Rs.94,700 ex-showroom (on Flipkart) after a cash discount of Rs.25,200. even after factoring in Insurance, RTO and other charges, the price on-road falls below Rs.1.10 lakhs making it a value-for-money buy, with 100 km of range and Hero's wide dealership network, service isn't a hassle either. It is an option worth considering indeed. Moreover, the Vida is the only mainstream scooter that comes with removable batteries, making charging easier as well.

That's reassuring to know as the Access was my preferred choice. Also do you mind sharing how long you've had yours for and how many kms has it done?

Vida definitely seems vfm at this price point. Will consider this in the mix as well.

Get the Activa 125 eyes closed. You simply cannot go wrong with an Activa. These scooters age gracefully IMO. You will relate to this 10 years later incase you end up getting an Activa.

Re: Which gearless scooter for me? Access 125 Vs Activa 110 Vs Jupiter 125 Vs Dio 110

I was in the market for a gearless scooter recently and finally picked a second hand Activa 5G. I was lucky to find a low-mileage single owner scooter.

We have a Access 125 that just crossed the 15yr mark with 75K+ on the odo. This runs like a dream even now with regular servicing. Hoping to have a similar experience with the Activa.

So you cannot really go wrong with either of them.

I would suggest to get Activa 125 cc with alloy wheel version, bought last October and have only good things to say, be it engine refinement, fuel economy or looks. Its an true allrounder with no issue whatsoever.
Now service intervel is updated to every six months and dealers don't push unnecessary ads ons.

As someone who got a Jupiter 125 around 7 months back, would like to share my feedback on the following.

1. The scooter in its drum brakes avatar should cost less than the specified budget. If you are going for the disc brake model, you will have to forego certain accessories. Our Jupiter's final price was 1,16,000, disc brakes, all accessories which came down to 1,08,000 due to exchangine our Access.

2. In the 7 months of ownership, we have faced absolutely 0 issues in terms of reliability. The auto start stop system had a minor malfunction for around 2-3 times where it did not switch off after the stipulated time but that was resolved after the service.

3.The ride quality is great and can be adjusted via the suspension according to your ride preference. Have not changed it yet but ours is set at the softest possible and it irons out small humps quite well without throwing you up in the air. Pillion has plenty of space and the seat is extremely wide, providing a lot of comfort.

4. We have consistently been getting 50kmpl which is great, and for our usage case (upto 25-20km a day) , we only need to fill fuel once or max twice a week provided its 3/4th or full tank.

5.Storage space is where the Jupiter triumphs the other scooters. The boot is massive (due to the fuel tank being placed under the floorboard) and can easily accommodate 2 helmets. It also gets a storage space up in front and that can be used to keep your phone while charging ; the accessory pack provides a USB charger.

6. Quoting this from my ownership review :
Quote:
TVS After Sales Services :
This is quite commendable and I truly appreciate the way TVS is handling the team. They call once every 2 weeks and after every service asking about our experience and when we mentioned the vibration problem, they straightaway asked us when we were free and scheduled a checkup before coming to the conclusion.
You can check out this thread (TVS Jupiter 125 Review) or PM me with any questions about the Jupiter, would be more than happy to answer them.

All the best for your choice

Re: Which gearless scooter for me? Access 125 Vs Activa 110 Vs Jupiter 125 Vs Dio 110

My friend has a Activa 125 bs6 which has done 70k+ kms. We have used it for multiple long rides and here's what I think about it -

+ves

• Ultra reliable. Even after 4 years and 70k kms, it still runs as smooth as it was when brand new. Never faced a single issue.

• Ultra smooth. Nothing in the segment even comes close to it's refinement. And Honda's ACG silent start tech just elevates the sense of refinement to next level.

• Honda's silent start and start-stop tech works seamlessly. It's the best executed start-stop tech in 2 wheeler segment. The system has zero lag.

• Comfy. Suspensions are tuned softly and the scooter glides over most imperfections.

• It's acceleration is on par with others in the segment.

• It's small digital display is not cluttered and shows all the relevant things like click, trip meter, service reminder, tank range, real time mileage, average mileage, etc.

• The speedometer and digital multi info display have a nice white backlit, which gives a premium feel at night.

• Awesome fuel efficiency. Gives 55kpl at 70kph and 60+ kpl if you ride at 40-50kph.

• Engine and chassis are super durable.

• It ages extremely well. Everything from paint to plastics to wiring is of high quality. Even after 70k kms, the engine has not lost any compression and still gives the above mentioned FE. All the switches and electricals work like clockwork.

-ves

• Dulled throttle response. Honda has intentionally dulled it's initial throttle response so as to make it appealing to older people as well. Don't mistake, it's as quick as Fascino and Access. But it does not feel as peppy as the others.

• Engine is tuned for low end and midrange. Power dies post mid rpms. You can cruise at 70kph, but Access can easily sit at higher speeds.

• Suspension is totally tuned for comfort, hence handling is not that great. It feels rear heavy while cornering. Not the most nimble scooter out there.

• Honda service and parts availability are pathetic. This is the biggest headache my friend has faced in his ownership experience.

Overall, Activa 125 is a real comfy 125 which is great for relaxing work commutes. If you want similar reliability with more peppiness and better handling, then Dio 125 is a good choice. Alway's go for a 125cc and avoid 110cc's, as 125's have much better performance and FE is only slightly lower than 110's.

Be it any scooter, I would suggest you to buy the disc brake variant. Front disc on scooter does not lock that easily as others fear. It's a life saver as it greatly reduces the braking distance. My friend was not an experinced rider when he bought the Activa and it's disc brake combined with combi-braking has saved him in multiple heart in the mouth panic situations.

I have BS6 Access125 and I'd definitely recommend it. Ride quality, handling, service have been good. If you are particular about storage space then nothing can beat Jupiter125 with its under seat storage. But not sure about reliability or service. Between Access125 and Activa125, my pick would be Access. I have got the lowest variant to avoid headaches with nice to have features and unnecessary electronics I don't need.

Get the burgman instead. May be 10k more, mind boggling storage space compared to access, looks much more stylish. Can be a bit taller than others so keep that in mind. It feels much more comfortable than the other scooters to me due to the larger seat and legspace

With closed eyes, I would strongly recommend taking Jupiter 125! You can check the forum for scooter recommendations. I bought Jupiter 110 after TBHP recommendations (125 was not available then).

The best part about Jupiter is 12” wheels in front and rear and it effortlessly soaks in the bumps! Great FE and overall it’s Namma TN brand TVS!

You will never regret after buying Jupiter. Much better than Access or Activa!!
