Petrol/diesel sales mix is 25% to 30% and 75% to 70% respectively. Most of the fuel consumed by the commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, tractors & cabs. Among petrol sales, it is unlikely that two wheelers constribute significantly to the volumes. It is primarily the cars that are pushing demand for petrol.

Refineries like BPCL/Reliance/Indian Oil etc have other sources of revenues like LPG, Naphtha & petrochemical sales. Exports is something like $50 billion a year. Despite all the EV news, BPCL/Indian Oil/Reliance are continuing with their brownfield/greenfield expansion plans and investing billions.

The statement was made at launch of Ather electric 2W and was made in the context of 2 and 3 wheelers, we should not expect him to say that petrol IC engine-based scooters will continue to rule the roads

But thinking from a different perspective, 2 wheelers, especially the commuter scooters segment has reached a point where it can get disrupted the moment electric scooters start getting affordable and reliable battery swapping support.

In the U.K. we have already postponed the deadline for ICE vehicles by 5 years and moved it to 2035, another 11 years to go. Even this target seems unlikely to be met. Currently only 16.5% of new cars registered in 2023 were BEVs.
More than 62% of those vehicles are "fleet" cars for company use.
Private BEV car sales are down buy more than 16% year on year.
In January this year "fleet" car sales of BEVs were down to 42%, at the same time private purchases fell by 25%. The sales of new electric vehicles is 35% down on the target set to meet the "2035 deadline".
Despite the fact that new car sales are up by 8.2%. The 18th consecutive month of year on year growth.
The retail value of (any age) used petrol and diesel car continues to rise, currently by 5.2% year on year. At the same time the value of used PHEVs has fallen by 16% and BEVs have fallen by 25%.
Only 6% of the U.K. petrol and diesel car owners have said they intend to buy an EV this year, while 48% say they have no intention of ever buying an EV.
Approximately 10% of EV drivers have switched back to petrol or diesel, while 52% of EV owners also have a petrol or diesel car for longer journeys.

Another day, another face of NITI Aayog.

NITI Aayog reconstituted; 15 Union Ministers including from allies made part of it.

National Institution for Transforming India, better known as ‘NITI Aayog’, was constituted in 2015 when the government chose to scrap the 65-year-old Planning Commission.

“Embracing a vision for holistic development and innovation, NITI Aayog is on a journey of transformative initiatives that promise to redefine India’s future,” the Aayog said in a Facebook post.
