Triumph Speed 400 | Front fork oil leakage

I'm really starting to question the reliability of the bike in recent times. Starting with Coolant Leakage from the Engine Head to now the Oil Leakage from the Front Fork. I rode the bike last 4 days ago and when I took off the covers today, found oil spilled on the floor. The right side fork was moist with oil and was dripping on the rim. I rode it for about ~20 kms to see the changes, it rides perfectly fine but the suspension have gotten soft.
I seriously have no idea how can this be possible all of a sudden but lets see what the service centre has to say on this.

Looks like you have a busted Fork oil seal. Not uncommon with bikes that have USD suspension and are ridden in dynamic road conditions like India where dirt and debris can cause the seal to rupture and cause fork oil to leak. Get the fork oil seal replaced and invest in a pair of fork oil seal protectors which will minimise the risk of this occurring again

For all motorcycles with USD suspension, it is aways good to have fork seals in place.
Kriega Fork Seals are good and you could get a set online. I suppose lazyassbikers sells them.

Hi, are there any downsides to fork seals? Like slightly worse suspension performance? or something else?

Absolutely not. These are very versatile and good additions to your motorcyling experience. Fork seals are made of stretchable material so they only provide protection from dirt and dust. They are not too tight that may cause any loss in suspension performance.

Do you mean the fork oil seal protectors?

I think you mean Fork protectors, they work well as long as you maintain them as per their intended condition,

Dirt, dust and sand particles can get in between the protectors and the fork legs, this can cause scratches on the fork legs as a result of fork movement. So it is advisable to remove the protectors once in a while depending on your riding conditions and clean them thoroughly to avoid damage.

Ktm forks come with a dust cover which you need to pull down and clean the insides. The older models (first gen, first few lots i believe) didnt have these.

Triumph unfortunately doesn't seem to come with a cover like this.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 | Front fork oil leakage

My scrambler 400x now has a fork oil leak, it is less than 2 months old and has 1300 Kms on the odo! I've been riding it in dirt roads with lots of pot holes. So maybe this is expected?

Yes. It is bound to happen.

Get the fork serviced and use a fork seal protector. Clean the fork seal protector at a regular frequency.
