Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

The Kawasaki Versys X 300 has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The adventure bike was seen on the streets of Pune and could be launched in the near future.

The Kawasaki Versys X 300 looks like a typical adventure tourer. It has a distinct fairing with a single-pod headlamp and a tall windscreen. The bike has a single-piece stepped seat and raised handlebars.

The Versys X 300 is expected to be powered by a 296cc, parallel-twin engine shared with the Ninja 300. In the Ninja, this motor is tuned to produce 39 BHP and 26.1 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. We can expect the Versys X 300 to get a bespoke tune.

Spy images suggest that the India-spec Versys X 300 will be equipped with a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock at the rear. The brake setup will consist of disc brakes at both ends supported by dual-channel ABS.

The Kawasaki Versys X 300 will compete with the KTM 390 Adventure and BMW G 310 GS, among others.

Re: Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

This bike was once available in India if I am not wrong. It bombed due to ridiculously high pricing. Hope it returns with sane pricing now but I feel that is highly unlikely given Kawasaki's strategy of CBU CKD business model.

That said, I find this bike's design to be very clean, neutral and inoffensive.

Re: Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

This machine was an utter flop in its first innings in India, even though capable due to its nonsense pricing. Not sure why they want to launch it again with the same looks and specs a few years later. Maybe manufactured in India to price it competitively? Still don't understand the strategy though. They need to change the gear ratios at any cost from the Ninja 300 to actually match that of an adv.

Re: Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

I feel that the Versys 30 X has a better chance at being a decent option in the road biased ADV segment now. When it was launched back in 2017, the ADV market was just opening up and we were not an ADV crazy country. It was also severely overpriced compared to the only existing affordable ADV then, the Himalayan 411. If they can slot in the gap between the 390ADV/H450 and the NX500 and price it under 5L, it might be a viable option. Wishful thinking knowing the trend from Kawasaki and their CBUs.

Made-in-India Kawasaki Versys-X 300 launch by year-end

According to a media report, Kawasaki plans to launch a localized version of the Versys-X 300 by the end of this year.

A prototype of the made-in-India Versys-X 300 was spotted testing in February. At the time, it was not clear as to what Kawasaki was up to. As per the latest report, it was the localized version that was being tested.

The Versys-X 300 will be the third Kawasaki to be manufactured in India, after the Ninja 300 and W175. We can expect a revision in the prices of the Versys-X 300 once it’s launched later this year.

The Versys-X 300 is expected to be powered by a 296cc parallel-twin engine shared with the Ninja 300. In the Ninja, this motor is tuned to produce 39 BHP and 26.1 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The India-spec bike is likely to feature a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear.

Now that's something very interesting. 'Made in India' is the key requirement now to have a respectable pricing. RS457 demand should push other manufacturers to consider this route. I always liked this bike but due to the ridiculous pricing never ever remotely considered it. Now if it can come at the pricing of let's say a 310GS, it will make a very compelling case.

Now let's hope Aprilia also takes cue from Kawasaki and launches the Tuareg 457 at a sane price. I remember checking the price of the Tuareg 660 only to be shocked at the 18 lakh+ starting price!

Re: Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

Not bad but Kawasaki really needs to update their 300cc bikes with at least LED lighting and a better instrument cluster. The one on the Ninja 300 basically uses an extremely dated 2012 Ninja 650 cluster. At least use the one on the old Ninja 400 which was much better. And halogen indicators in a 4l bike are such a turn-off today. But at least Kawasaki is doing something so kudos to them for that.

The 310 GS sells for 3.3l ex showroom and the Ninja 300 already sells for 3.43l. This will definitely be more expensive than the Ninja 300 so maybe 3.7-3.9l I am guessing.

New spy shots. Hope it comes with alloy wheels as option.

Will be a good alternative to KTM Adventure 390 if priced below 3.85L ex-showroom.
Ninja 300 with same engine is priced 3.43L ex-showroom.

Kawasaki Versys-X 300 ADV could be launched in October

Kawasaki is gearing up to introduce the Versys-X 300 in India and as per the latest reports, the ADV bike is likely to be launched this festive season in October.

The Versys-X 300 will rival the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 in the Indian market. It is said that in order to keep the pricing competitive, Kawasaki would be looking to source most of the parts from local vendors.

The Versys-X 300 is expected to be powered by a 296cc parallel-twin engine shared with the Ninja 300. This engine delivers 39 BHP and 26.1 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The adventure bike is likely to feature a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The brake setup will consist of disc brakes at both ends supported by dual-channel ABS.

The Versys-X 300 will be the third Kawasaki to be manufactured in India, after the Ninja 300 and W175.

That's a very good news. If they price it well this time, it may have a lot of takers. Any possibility of alloy wheels and tubeless tyres?

Looking good. If only Kawasaki can price their service costs properly, it'll be great !

Re: Kawasaki Versys X 300 ADV spotted testing in India

There is some space for this in the market. The Ninja 300 is a great tourer, but the absurd ground clearance will always make me think thrice before doing any trips unprepared on our beautiful roads so this the X300 should plug in very well here. Though all this depends on Kawasaki making sure it competes with the Himalayan 450 and the Adventure 390 rather than the Honda NX500 price-wise.

I don't think they will go after Himalayan and KTM, they will price it in between NX500 and Himalayan, I am guessing a starting price of anything between 3.99 to 4.49 Lacs ex-showroom, which is still pretty good as that engine is a well proven one. I for one will be tempted to swap my Interceptor with a Twin engine instead of the singles from Himalayan and KTM.
